Hermione

Aiden's anguished murmurs in his sleep jolt me awake.

His body convulses over the bed, as if he's fighting off some unseen torment.

I propel myself up with my elbow, gently tapping him to wake up. "Aiden... Aiden."

He continues to thrash about, his body shaking uncontrollably. Tears stain his eyelids, and a hoarse cry escapes his throat.

I strain to discern what he's saying, but his words are inaudible; whatever he's dreaming of seems to be having a profound impact on him.

He's twitching and crying, and I'm growing increasingly alarmed as my attempts to wake him up prove futile.

"Aiden, wake up," I say, my voice taking on a frantic edge as I hit his arm harder. I grasp his face and tap him repeatedly.

It takes a while before he ceases convulsing and his breathing evens out.

I pause, fearing the worst. I've heard rumors of cases where a patient becomes trapped in their subconscious mind as a coping mechanism against a traumatic past experience.

"Aiden," I call out te

Aiden I pull my car to a halt by the fence of my childhood home, enveloped in a thick sense of nostalgia. I step down from the car, taking in the familiar burnt reddish bricks and the overhead barbed wires that often snagged my balls when I played in the compound against Grandpa's warnings. Memories of my mischievous childhood bring a subtle smile to the corner of my mouth as I close the car door and approach the small black walk-gate at the front of the sprawling fence.Maintaining this house has been a challenge due to the taxes it incurs. I bought it back once I came of age and my earnings were sufficient to cover the costs. My monthly allowance as a Mendes' son came with its own perks, being generous enough to allow me to live a carefree lifestyle while still managing my responsibilities. I was twenty when I purchased the house. Unbeknownst to me, Mom had taken a loan from the bank to help us through tough times. During my teenage years, I was oblivious to the battles she fou

Aiden My eyes twitch in surprise. Did I hear Hermione wrong? "What?" I blurt out, blinking away the shock. Hermione scoffs, looking away from me. She braces one hand on her hip, running her fingers through her hair in a gesture of frustration. "What do you mean by she wants you to commit murder?" I demand, seeking clarity on the situation. She can't be serious. Ezra wouldn't be that unreasonable to demand such action from her daughter.Hermione sniffles, brushing her finger beneath the bridge of her nose. "She gave me a patient file yesterday. The patient has a rare genetic disorder that has necessitated a series of surgical treatments and therapy over the years. Based on her medical history and current age, I've surmised that her body might not survive another surgical procedure.""What exactly is her condition?" I ask. She shakes her head. "I'm not at liberty to discuss the details, but Mom and I are both aware of the high risks associated with this surgery. The patient would

Hermione I drive to work after enjoying breakfast at an early morning diner, feeling grateful for Aiden's thoughtfulness. He takes his husbandly role seriously, ensuring I'm well-fed and cared for, often going above and beyond with his gentlemanly gestures. Opening my car door for me and lavishing me with attention, care, and love, he's inhabited a larger part of my heart. I'm deeply in love with him, and his thoughtfulness and playfulness make me smile. The thought of him brightens my day, and I smile throughout the ride to work and the elevator ride to my office.I head to my office, nodding at greetings from the staff I pass. My high spirits linger after the moment I shared with Aiden before we parted ways. However, my smile fades when I encounter Professor Patel at the entrance to my office. I'd forgotten about our unresolved issues in the hospital. "Good morning, Professor Patel," I say, my tone lacking warmth.Professor Patel greets me with a smile. "Professor Pierce, or rat

Hermione The rest of the day passes without incident. Mercifully, I don't have any further slipups, and I confirm that I won't be taking on any surgeries in the meantime. This will give me sufficient time to practice and hone my skills again. After work hours, I keep myself occupied with surgical props and videos, losing track of time as the night wears on. The vibration of my phone cuts through the silence in the office, and I pause the video to see that it's a call from Aiden. I take a deep breath and answer the call before it disconnects, noticing that it's already past nine. Not typically a late hour for me in my previous single life, but now as a married woman, I have to allocate my time wisely, carefully balancing my work and personal life."Hey, Hermie," Aiden's voice comes through the speaker, laced with a hint of fatigue. I blink. "Hi, Aiden. How was your day?" "It's been long," he answers with a sigh. "Are you coming home tonight? I'm about to prepare dinner." "I'll

Hermione I sit in my office, cringing at the memory of my embarrassing moment. I've clearly lost my edge after indulging in a two-week pleasure trip. It's taken a toll on my skills, and basic functions now feel like a struggle. "Good grief!" I squeeze my eyes shut in mortification as I recall the morning's event, the humiliation leaving a lingering sense of discomfort. I stare at my hands, where blood splattered while I was milking the patient's IV tubing. It's not a task I'd typically undertake, but a resident was struggling, and I stepped in to assist. I wince as I remember chastising the resident for their inability to perform such a basic procedure, only to botch it myself. My gaze drifts to my stained lab coat, which I tossed into the laundry basket as soon as I burst into my office to escape the embarrassment. The heat of the conversation that followed my faux pas still lingers, despite Nurse Sharon's attempt to downplay my mistake with humor. I can sense the underlying c
