Chapter 104

Emily’s POV

If someone had told me a year ago that I’d be standing here, in a soft ivory dress with sunlight spilling through the glass walls, my hand wrapped in Eddy’s… I would’ve laughed. Or cried. Maybe both.

Life had thrown me into storms I never thought I could survive. I’d lost people I loved, I’d been betrayed in ways I still couldn’t fully name, and for so long, I thought I’d never breathe without the weight pressing against my chest.

And yet… here I was.

The ceremony was small. Intimate. Not the grand, glittering wedding my father once dreamed for me — the kind that would have made headlines and cemented alliances. No, this was different. This was ours.

Eddy had insisted on something simple, something real. Just family, a few close friends, no cameras, no reporters, no extravagance.

I’d agreed, though a part of me still ached knowing who wasn’t here — my father, sitting behind ste

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits..Chapter 105Emily’s POV: I used to think happiness was something you stumbled into by accident—like tripping over a loose stone on a quiet street. Something sudden, unexpected. But I’ve learned it’s quieter than that. Softer. It comes in pieces, like sunlight slowly warming your skin after a stormy night. And tonight, as I sit in the nursery, rocking one of my newborns in my arms, I realize just how much my life has changed in just a year. The house is silent except for the soft hum of the night. Eddy —my Eddy —is asleep down the hall, finally resting after another night of pacing and fussing over me like I might shatter if he looks away. He still does that. Every little sound from me has him on edge, as though protecting me has become second nature.I glance down at the tiny face nestled against my chest.“Hi, little one,” I whisper, brushing my thumb across his soft cheek. “Mama’s here.”His small l

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits.Chapter 103Emily’s POV I didn’t expect to see her. Not here. Not now.I was curled up on the couch in the living room, knees tucked against my chest, my gaze fixed on the faint steam rising from the untouched cup of tea in front of me. The house was quiet, except for the distant hum of the AC. For once, silence didn’t feel peaceful. It felt heavy. Like a weight pressing against my ribs. The knock came softly at first. One, two, three taps. Hesitant.I didn’t move.“Emily… it’s me,” Nyla’s voice came muffled from the other side of the door.My throat tightened instantly, a rush of old memories slamming into me like a wave I wasn’t ready for. Nyla.My best friend. My sister. Or… the girl who used to be.I stood slowly, the ache in my chest deepening with every step I took toward the door. My hand hovered over the knob for a second longer than it should have, my breath shallow and uneven. Then I opened i

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits..Chapter 102Emily’s POV I thought walking out of the hospital would feel like freedom. But as the warm sunlight touched my face, I realized that freedom doesn’t come just because you’re discharged. My body was healing, yes, but my heart… my heart was a battlefield of broken pieces.Eddy’s hand was steady against my back as we stepped outside. He kept his pace slow, matching my unsteady steps, but his silence carried a weight of its own. He’d been my rock these past few weeks—my shield when the world turned against me—but today, I wasn’t thinking about safety.I was thinking about him. My father.“Emily,” Eddy’s voice was soft, careful, like he was afraid I’d break. “We should head home. You need rest.”I shook my head, the motion sharp despite the dull ache in my chest. “No,” I whispered. “I want to go to the prison.”His hand tightened slightly on my arm. “Em, you just got out. Maybe this isn’t—”“I

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits..Chapter 101Emily’s POV I woke up to the quiet hum of machines, their beeping soft and steady, like the rhythm of a distant lullaby. The sharp smell of antiseptic clung to the air, burning faintly in my nose. My eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the pale white light of the hospital room, and for a moment, I couldn’t remember where I was or why I was here. Then it all came crashing back — the fall, the darkness, the weightlessness of losing control. And then nothing.I shifted slowly against the pillows, wincing at the dull ache that spread across my chest. My gaze drifted to the small bouquet of fresh lilies on the table by my bed — white, delicate, perfect. The sight of them squeezed something deep inside me. I didn’t need to guess who had brought them.Eddy.He had been here. Again.I ran my fingers over the petals, whispering to myself as though speaking would make his presence feel closer. “You we

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits..Chapter 100Eddy’s POV The smell of antiseptic clung to my clothes.Even after I left the hospital, it followed me home, soaked into my skin like a reminder I couldn’t wash off. It was as though the universe wanted me to carry her with me wherever I went—even when she wasn’t conscious enough to know I was there.Emily lay there, so still, so heartbreakingly silent, hooked up to machines that hummed and blinked as though mocking me with their fragile rhythm. I visited every day without fail, flowers in one hand, her favorite food in the other, knowing well she couldn’t eat yet, but refusing to let her wake up to nothing.I’d sit by her bed for hours, just… watching. Watching the way her chest rose and fell, how the corners of her lips were always slightly parted, like she was about to tell me something but couldn’t find the words. Every time, I’d whisper things I’d never dared say to her when she was a
