Avery's Point Of View

“Welcome back Miss,” Martha said calmly, her face beaming with joy.

I looked on in amusement, trying to understand what made her that happy.

“What's the big news? Why do you look so happy?” I asked calmly, looking at her attentively.

“You look happy Miss, that's why I am happy,” she said innocently, ushering me into my room.

I smiled softly, pleased at her simple but beautiful disposition.

“Do you need anything else Miss?” Martha asked quietly, leaning against my door.

“No, thank you, please retire early,” I said calmly, closing my eyes as she walked out of my room.

Immediately after she left I got up and brought out my mother's diary.

Checking for where I stopped reading and putting on a small lamp so I could continue from where I stopped.

“You have work tomorrow,” I whispered quietly, making a mental note not to read too much.

The next few pages were about a man she had met, one she was drawn to at first sight.

He had saved her life once

Avery's Point Of View “Let me out!” I screamed again, hitting the cage multiple times. “Shut up!” The man screamed angrily, hitting the case with a whip. I was startled by this, seeing that the whip had spikes on it. “Make her shut up for some hours, I can't stand the noise,” the man said calmly, snapping his fingers once again. Suddenly my cage was open and I was let out, or so I thought. The men grabbed me and injected something into my shoulders, in spite of my attempts to resist. “What did you do to me?” I whispered weakly, my legs numbing as my eyes began to close. “Lock her up,” one of the men said firmly, as I was dragged back to the cage and locked up. I failed to understand what was going on and why I needed to constantly be restrained. “Are you sure he will come?” An unfamiliar voice asked, as my eyes began to open. “Yes,” the response came quickly. I lay still, hoping to hear some more information but no other words were being said. After a few minutes of lyin

  • Best Friend's Mate   CHAPTER 105 - Trapped

Avery's Point Of View “If you want to know the truth, come to the abandoned warehouse just outside the hotel,” the small note read. It was laced with something I couldn't understand and suddenly I couldn't move. I had seen this sort of thing back at Moonlight Pack but I didn't expect to experience it here. “Someone is watching me,” I whispered weakly, feeling my consciousness slip. I opened my eyes and found myself in the same spot I had fainted. This meant that the person who stole my mother's diary had not yet escaped when I arrived and had made me pass out so that he or she could escape. “I have to find the truth,” I said calmly, taking a deep breath and standing to my feet. I looked around for anything I might have not carried and finding nothing I picked my bag and walked out of the room. “You must be mad or something,” one of the managers growled, slapping me across the face. I looked back at her in shock and anger not understanding why she hit me. “You think this is

  • Best Friend's Mate   CHAPTER 104 - Anger and fear

Avery's Point Of View “Are you okay Miss?” Martha asked calmly, worry filling her eyes. I blinked in confusion because this wasn't the type of response I was expecting from her. Was she not scared that I was a werewolf? “Are you not terrified?” I asked in confusion, my eyes fixed on hers. “I was only terrified that you wouldn't wake up Miss,” she responded softly, taking my hands in hers. Only then did I look at my skin and realize that I had transformed back into my human form. I breathe a sigh of relief, a little smile plastered on my face. I didn't understand what had happened the night before and even that morning but I was glad that it was finally over and hoped it didn't happen again. “Work, I'm late again!” I screamed in panic, jumping up from the bed and startling Martha. “Miss please slow down, I beg of you,” Martha pleaded anxiously, but before she could finish speaking I was already in the bathroom. “You just had a big scare, you need to rest,” Martha screamed

  • Best Friend's Mate   Chapter 103 - Open Secrets

Avery's POV “Miss!” Martha screamed in panic, banging the door continuously. “Miss! Please open up. You are scaring me,” Martha confessed exhaustedly, as she continued to bang on the door. I had been quiet for a long time because I didn't know how my voice would sound if I spoke up. “I am fine Martha, please go back to sleep,” I finally said, trying to sound as calm and normal as possible. Who was I kidding, my voice didn't sound anything close to normal but I hoped Martha wouldn't notice. “You are being very strange Miss,” Martha said calmly, worry etched in her voice. “Don't worry Martha, I am fine, can we talk tomorrow, I need to sleep,” I managed to say, trying to max the pain I was in. “Please just open the door, Miss, I need to see you and know you are fine,” she said anxiously, taking several deep breaths. I didn't respond to her request, frustrated by her persistence. She was right to be worried about me, I was worried about myself too. But I couldn't let her see me

  • Best Friend's Mate   CHAPTER 102 - Strange Man

Avery's Point Of View “Shit…shit…shut!” I screamed in horror, as my still-sleepy eyes landed on the clock. I was incredibly late and even more confused as to why Martha didn't wake me up. “Martha!” I screamed anxiously, looking towards my door expectantly. “Yes Miss,” she answered immediately, hurrying to my side. “Why didn't you wake me up?” I asked hurriedly, as I tried to find something to wear to work. “I did Miss, but you seemed too weak to wake up so I decided to let you sleep some more,” She said innocently, showing me to the bathroom. My towel, shower gel, and every other thing I needed were there and neatly arranged. “Thank you, Martha,” I said calmly, as I rushed to shower. I ran as fast as I could, checking my watch and praying that my lateness wasn't noticed. “There she is, the star of the show,” one of the chefs said sarcastically, eyeing me up and down. “I'm so sorry, I…” I stammered, trying to explain. But in truth, I had no excuse for my lateness, I didn't

  • Best Friend's Mate   CHAPTER 101 - Alone Again

Avery's Point Of View “Excuse me, please I haven't seen Ella or Jack anywhere, do you know where they are,” I asked anxiously, looking at my colleague expectantly. I hadn't seen either of them since I resumed that day and it was starting to bother me. She didn't answer me, just scoffed and walked away. “I don't understand,” I muttered confusedly, running my hand through my hair. The entire day had been strange, my interactions with my colleagues had gone from sweet to sour and I couldn't tell why. “Ella!” I called loudly, knocking at the director's and manager's office door. It was wrong to just enter into their shared office space without being invited in but I was getting desperate. “What the hell do you want and why are you screaming like that?” One manager asked rudely, eyeing me up and down. “I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you, but I am looking for Ella, I haven't seen her all day,” I said apologetically, lowering my eyes. It was wrong for me to bang on their d
