The sky was overcast, casting a steel-gray hue over the training field. Mira remained at her position, her boots planted firmly. Her breath was shaky from exhaustion, but the look in her eyes was determined. Across from her, Theresa removed her cloak and tossed it aside, revealing the twin blades strapped to her back.

“No illusions this time,” Theresa said. “Not from me. You’ll be fighting me with yours.”

Mira blinked. “Wait… you’re not using magic? Why not? It's not fair to you.”

Theresa smirked. “I don’t need magic. You should be worried about yourself, kid.”

She drew one blade, its edge gleaming. “Your illusions must protect you, deceive me, and strike. If I land a hit, you fail.”

Mira swallowed. “You’re serious?”

Theresa’s eyes narrowed. “Dead serious.”

She charged.

Mira barely had time to react. She threw up a wall of fire, her first instinctive thought, but Theresa didn’t flinch. She ran straight through it, her blade slicing the air where Mira had stood a second ago.

A knot in my stomach tightened out of nowhere. I'd heard those words too many times, and I hated the way it made me feel.Thane's eyes met mine, slight regret flashing through his eyes from his words.“I just mean I don't like the energy he carries. Not him in person. I don't even know him. I bet he's a nice guy.” He explained.“He is.” I concurred.Thane nodded. “Thought so. I meant no harm with my words, Mira.”But I knew he meant more than what he was saying. I didn't want to probe further. This topic of Luca made me furious and heartbroken all at once. I trusted him, more than I cared to admit, and that scared the shit out of me.“So you're not going to ask what our unfinished business is?” Thane's voice broke through my thoughts.I buried the questions swirling in my head at the back at my mind, and decided to focus on the man in front of me. He was a good distraction.“I was going to ask eventually.” I said. “What is it?”He smiled, a glint of mischief flashing through his eyes

The chamber fell quiet, the type of quiet where you could hear the sound of your heartbeat.Too quiet.Alexa knelt in the middle of the room, bloodied and exhausted. Her head was raised, eyes gleaming with hope. She was sure she'd heard his voice, she just couldn't see him.“Zephyr?” She called again. No response came. With her body weakened from loss of blood, Alexa rose to her feet despite her trembling legs. As she did, the temperature of the room dropped drastically, like someone had turned on a snow tap and it was pouring down on her.The walls groaned, the runes on the ground flaring violently.“You really have some guts,” the voice thundered again, laced with a low tone that screamed danger.Alexa took a staggering step backward, her heart pounding in her chest. “I… I need you, Zephyr.”A solemn laugh resounded through the walls, bouncing off from every corner. Jagged shadows formed on the walls, twisting here and there like they were just tree leaves. The temperature dropped l

  • Betrayal under the wolf’s moon   Chapter 147 : BENDING REALITY!

“Do you know how to lie?”Mira stared blankly at Theresa. “What?”Theresa paced slowly around her, her boots silent against the damp earth.“Today,” she said, “you learn how to lie to the world.”Mira raised a brow. “Are we sure lie is the word to use?”Theresa stopped. “Illusions are lies wrapped in belief. You don’t just trick the eye, you convince reality to bend.”Mira exhaled. “Sounds... complicated.”“It is,” Theresa said. “But you’re not here for easy, are you?”Mira shook her head. “What do I do?”Theresa lifted her hand, and instantly, the field around them shifted. Trees twisted into towering statues, the sky turning violet. Mira gasped as the ground beneath her shimmered into marble.“Whoa!” She'd never get used to how quickly Theresa could bend reality.Theresa smirked. “That’s a basic illusion. Visual only. I'm not controlling weight, scent, sound or skin, just what you see.”Mira turned in a slow circle. “It feels real.”“That’s what I want you to feel.” Theresa stepped

“Do you know how to create illusions?”Mira took Theresa's hand, helping herself to rise from the dirt. She'd been lying there for approximately ten minutes, and she was surprised that Theresa let her. They'd been at it for hours, since sunrise. It was a little past noon, and Mira was exhausted.“I’ve never tried.” She responded, panting. Her legs didn't feel like hers, almost like they'd become aliens who had their own brains.Theresa nodded. “You didn't say no. I like that.”Mira stood still, chest rising and falling, unsure of what to say.Theresa looked at her, her eyes arching, then furrowing almost at the same time. “You’re exhausted. Yet, you won't say it. Why?”Mira met her eyes for the first time in hours. The sun was glistening high above them, and beads of sweat were dripping from her forehead, to her chin, to the collar of the shirt she had on. Despite that, there was a glint of determination in her eyes.“There's no room for tiredness, is there?” She replied.Theresa star

It'd always been that way, but this time was heightened. An act as simple as breathing could get you executed, and your entire family too.Alexa's powers were slowly leaving her. The more she tried to find them, the more she was drained. Everyday came with the reminder that she had to do something, but she didn't know what.“I can't let them win.” were the only thoughts running through her head. The wind howled outside, heavily, like it could feel the immense weight Alexa held on her shoulders.Suddenly, she rose to her feet, her movements startling the guards around. “Strap the chariots.” She ordered. One guard was stupid enough to speak. “Where to, Luna?”Alexa shot him a glare, eyes glowing like the shade of blood. “Do not question me when I give a command.” The words rushed out of her mouth
