Chapter 1

Author: Cher
My Alpha once moved my heart when I didn't believe in love. Under his sincere promises, we became mates.

On our anniversary, I saw his lover's kiss marks on him. He thought he hid it well, but he didn't know I would disappear from his world forever.

"This thing can really hide a mate's scent?"

I stared at the ancient gemstone pendant in my palm. In the dim antique shop, it glowed with a dark red light.

The shopkeeper was a hunched old werewolf, his cloudy eyes sharp with cunning. "It helps suppress it for three months. Long enough for you to disappear."

I fastened the pendant somewhere hidden. The burning sensation in my chest, the one connecting me to Derek Blackwood, vanished instantly.

"Deal."

When I left the shop, I checked my phone. I'd purchased many plane tickets, departing in two weeks. Flights to Fesmington, Arcanum, and Drobia, all at different times and destinations.

Even if Derek used his Alpha authority to track me down, he'd only find himself lost in a maze.

I walked home as memories flooded back like a tide.

Three years ago, at Glory Challenge, Derek fought a raging bear to defend my honor. He bled everywhere to protect me.

He collapsed in my arms, smiling weakly. "Katherine, no one insults you in front of me."

Two years ago, he named his tech company after me—Kath Tech. At the launch party, he announced in front of all the pack elites, "In this world, only one Katherine deserves all my glory."

When I was young, my parents had a loveless marriage. So when I discovered they both cheated, I swore I'd never choose a mate.

However, Derek pursued me for so long, and he never wavered after countless rejections. His sincerity won me over.

On the full moon night when I accepted the mate mark, I looked into his eyes and said slowly, "Derek, my loyalty belongs to you alone. Any betrayal ends everything."

He kissed my forehead and swore, "My wolf soul pledges before the Moon Goddess that you'll be the only one for me in this life."

How ironic.

Tonight was our bonding anniversary. Derek came home holding an exquisite gift box, looking apologetic. "Sorry, honey. The overseas project had some issues. I'm late."

I walked closer as he opened the box. Inside lay a beautiful badge engraved with our names, inlaid with the Moon Mark pattern symbolizing the mate bond.

"This is a limited edition. I pulled so many strings to..."

Before he finished, I caught it. That sweet scent unique to Omegas, drifting from his open collar.

My gaze fell on the side of his neck. It was a faint bite mark. A temporary mark, yet a claim of possession.

Derek didn't notice at all. He kept explaining, "Something came up at the company, so it took longer than expected. You're not upset, are you?"

"No." I took the gift box and smiled. "I prepared a gift for you, too."

I turned toward the bedroom and retrieved a wooden box carved with runes from the deepest part of my drawer. Inside lay the Mate Termination Agreement I'd already signed. The parchment glowed faintly with moonlight, the sign that the oath was taking effect.

"This is my anniversary gift." I handed Derek the wooden box. "But I have one small request."

"What request?" He took it curiously.

"Don't open it until two weeks from now." I looked at him seriously. "This is our seventh anniversary. It should feel special."

Derek paused, then laughed. "What are you playing at?"

"Promise me." I stood on my toes and kissed his jaw. "You have to wait two weeks to open it, okay?"

"Okay." He ruffled my hair affectionately. "I promise."

He held the wooden box in his palm. His Alpha power surged out, setting a time lock on the box's surface. Golden runes flickered to life, intertwining with the magic I'd already placed there.

"Now no one can open it," he said solemnly. "In two weeks, it'll unlock automatically."

"Mmhmm."

Derek carefully stored the wooden box in his study safe, like he was storing the world's most precious treasure.

He turned and went to the bathroom. Water was running as his humming mixed with the sound. It was the song from our bonding ceremony.

I stood in the living room, my hand on the gemstone pendant that hid my scent. It felt ice cold.

I hoped that in two weeks, this surprise would haunt Derek forever.

Derek bought a small cabin deep in the forest on the border of Fesmington. The place was humble, with only basic necessities. But from here, he could see Moon Haven Sanctuary in the valley below. That was the pup sanctuary I'd established. It had become well known.Derek became a forest ranger. His daily work consisted of patrolling the mountains, protecting the forest, and occasionally helping lost hikers. He cut his hair short and grew out his beard. He wore plain work clothes. There was no trace of the Alpha he'd once been. For five years, he never approached the sanctuary. He only watched from afar and gathered bits of news about me from passersby. And I never encountered him. I had no idea he was there. One afternoon, three rogues attacked my sanctuary. My guards and I fought desperately to hold them off, but we were clearly outmatched.Derek didn't hesitate. He instantly shifted to his wolf form and charged out. His strength far exceeded those rogues, and he subdued all thr

Derek woke up three days later. He saw Grand Elder Fenrir sitting beside the bed, his aged face filled with exhaustion and worry."Grandfather, why are you crying?" Derek struggled to sit up."I contacted Katherine," Grand Elder Fenrir said directly. "She refused to see you."Derek froze, then shook his head. "That's impossible. She's just upset. I'll go find her. I'll explain everything myself.""Derek!" Grand Elder Fenrir stopped him sharply. "Listen to what she said."He played the recorded call. My calm and resolute voice filled the hospital room. When Derek heard me say his feelings for me were just an Alpha's obsession, his face went completely pale."She's doing well," Grand Elder Fenrir said meaningfully. "She has her own life now. Let her go."Derek stayed silent for a long time. Then he suddenly threw off the blanket and stumbled toward the door."I have to find her! I need to tell her face-to-face! I need to tell her I've really changed!"However, his body was too w

In the great hall of the Blackwood manor, 80-year-old Grand Elder Fenrir sat in a high-backed chair. His imposing presence filled the entire room with an oppressive atmosphere."Derek." Grand Elder Fenrir's voice was aged but still commanding. "Kneel."Derek dropped to one knee without hesitation."Do you know what you've done wrong?""I..." Derek barely started speaking before Grand Elder Fenrir raised his hand to stop him."You defiled a sacred mate bond and brought shame to the entire pack. Your stupidity and weakness nearly cost us dearly." Grand Elder Fenrir stood, his voice growing harsher."Most importantly, you hurt Katherine. That sweet woman didn't deserve any of this."Derek lowered his head, not daring to argue."William," Grand Elder Fenrir called for the butler. "Bring the family whip."William brought over a black wooden box with trembling hands. Inside lay a whip soaked in silver water, gleaming coldly in the moonlight.Silver water was deadly poison to werewo

"Alpha Derek, you need to return home immediately!"At 3:00 am, Derek was jolted awake by an urgent phone ringing.Roy's voice carried pure panic. "Sheila leaked our core secrets to rival packs. The company's stock price has already crashed 60%!"Derek shot upright, sleep vanishing instantly. "What? Give me details!""She sold everything! Your business partner list, the pack's defensive layout, and even your private schedule!" Roy's voice shook."The Ironblood pack is already mobilizing forces at the border. Dark Night Consortium is launching a hostile takeover of our shares! The board is demanding you return immediately to handle the situation!"Derek gripped his phone. His veins bulged. He never imagined the exiled Sheila would resort to such insane revenge. That foolish woman had actually betrayed the entire pack to get back at him."Book the earliest flight." Derek got up and began packing. "Also, activate the emergency protocols immediately.""Alpha Derek, there's one mor

This is the phone number Ms. Vance used when she checked into the hotel."A hotel staff member slipped a note into Derek's hand, greed glinting in his eyes.Derek accepted the note with trembling hands and immediately dialed the number. But all he heard was a cold, automated voice. "The number you have dialed has been disconnected."Derek refused to give up. He called over and over, but got the same result every time. In his desperation, he thought of another approach.Derek began posting an "Alpha's Confession Diary" online every day."Day One. Katherine, I know you can see this. Every day I regret not cherishing you.""Day Ten. I've dealt with Sheila. She'll never appear again. I want you to know how much I hate myself."These confession entries caused a huge reaction online. Many users began sympathizing with Derek, believing his remorse was genuine."This Alpha really seems to love his Luna. Writing a confession diary every day? That takes serious devo

"Mr. Blackwood, we've screened over ten thousand leads, but most are false information."The private investigator reported the latest developments wearily. The desk was piled high with eyewitness reports from around the world.Derek looked pale, his eyes bloodshot. He appeared not to have slept in days."Keep looking!" His voice came out hoarse. "Increase the bounty. Make it 100 million dollars!""Mr. Blackwood, at this rate your health...""I said keep looking!" Derek roared and grabbed a stack of documents from the desk, hurling them at the wall.Just then, Roy rushed in."Mr. Blackwood, important news!" he said breathlessly. "Someone spotted Ms. Vance at an old church in Arcanum's Bellin City!"Derek shot up from his chair instantly. Hope reignited in his eyes."Are you sure?""They already sent photos. It's definitely Ms. Vance!"Derek immediately checked the photos. In the image, I wore a simple beige trench coat and stood in front of an ancient Gothic church."Prepare
