Chapter 3

Author: Stars
Ryan and I truly weren’t an alliance match.

As for the alliance marriage mentioned in the divine messages, before all this, I didn’t even know his name, let alone agree to marry him.

All I knew was that he was a powerful Alpha, and my parents wanted the alliance bonding to strengthen cooperation between the packs.

Later, when I was in school, I met Ryan. He began pursuing me relentlessly by bringing me breakfast every morning and taking me to every club activity. He was like a little sun orbiting around me, until eventually he confessed his feelings.

Out of anger toward my father and also because I had been moved by Ryan’s sincerity, I agreed to his confession.

To be with him, I fought bitterly with my father and ran away with Ryan to his pack, ignoring everything else.

Through hardship after hardship, we came to where we were today—a pair everyone envied, a couple others said were fated and perfect for each other.

Ryan had sworn to me that he would love only me for the rest of his life and that he would never betray me. Back then, his sweet words had completely clouded my judgment, making me believe I had found true love.

I never imagined that the one who promised never to fail me would now manipulate me completely just for another she-wolf. All his so-called busyness, his so-called overtime were all lies. He had simply been running to see her.

I used to tell him not to work so hard.

He had said, "I’m the future Alpha. I’ll take over the entire pack one day. If I work harder now, once you become my Luna, you’ll have an easier life. I can’t bear to let you be tired."

Thinking back on it now… how many of his words were ever real?

[Later in the story, when Ryan comes back, he’ll claim he was saved by a young girl and needed a few days to recover. That girl is Rowena.]

[Then he uses ‘repaying her life-saving kindness’ as an excuse to make her his secretary so they can be together openly.]

[The key is that Jenna actually believes him, and she still holds the bonding ceremony with him in the end. After countless betrayals, she dies depressed. Thinking about it now, Jenna was truly miserable. Author, do you even have a heart?]

[But now the plot has changed. She’s found out the truth. Will she repeat the same tragedy?]

I went downstairs.

Ryan’s mother, Helena Summers, sat in the living room on the sofa, wiping her tears over and over with a handkerchief. When she saw me, she fixed her swollen, red eyes on me.

"If you hadn’t rushed my son, he wouldn’t have taken that shortcut. He wouldn’t have run into rogues. You’re the one who killed him."

The day after Ryan’s incident was the day we had planned to take our photos for the ceremony. He’d suddenly changed routes, choosing a rarely used path, and that was when he was attacked by rogues.

When I heard he was dead, I forced myself to swallow my grief so I could comfort Helena, only to be shoved aside mercilessly.

"Don’t think I don’t know. You only seduced my son because he was the Alpha’s heir. You just wanted to become Luna when he inherited the title."

I had always known Helena didn’t like me.

Ryan once promised me that once we were together, he would move out so the two of us could live on our own.

In these past few days, drowned in guilt, I had let her vent at me however she pleased.

Now, watching her clutch Ryan’s photo, choking and sobbing like she could barely breathe, I suddenly found it almost funny.

'Ryan, this is exactly the result you wanted. To let everyone who ever loved you fall into despair one by one.'

Thinking that, I couldn’t help letting out a soft laugh.

Helena exploded instantly. "What are you laughing at?!" She shot up and rushed toward me to slap me.

I reacted quickly, catching her hand before it landed.

Leaning toward her ear, I whispered, "Your Ryan is dead. Looks to me like you’re about to join him soon."

[Jenna finally fights back! I’ve hated this old witch forever—good job, girl!]

Helena clutched her chest and collapsed weakly onto the sofa, crying and thrashing about. She wailed, "My poor Ryan! He was so young, and this vicious mutt killed him! Why is my life so miserable…"

Sarah came downstairs and, seeing the scene, hurried over.

"Mom, Jenna is also devastated by Ryan’s death. Don’t take it to heart. Jenna, why don’t you apologize to Mom?"

I squeezed out my tears. "Since Mrs. Summers hates me so much, I think I should leave."

Sarah froze. This was not at all the reaction she expected. She hurried out the door to message Ryan.

Ryan looked terrible. He had lost an entire circle of weight, and the male who once kept his appearance immaculate now had hair like a messy bird’s nest. He looked exhausted and worn out.The moment he saw me, his eyes instantly reddened. "Jenna, it’s me! I’m back."However, he didn’t find surprise or excitement on my face, only an unnatural calm.A flicker of disbelief flashed through his eyes. "Jenna, listen to me. I was attacked by rogues and accidentally fell off a cliff…"I cut him off, "And then a young girl rescued you. She took care of you for a while, and once you healed, you rushed right back?"He froze. "Since you knew… why didn’t you come find me?"I let out a cold laugh. "Let me guess. The girl who saved you… Is her name Rowena Blake? And did she lie naked next to you to ‘take care of you’? You certainly went to great lengths to chase your little sweetheart."Ryan’s eyes widened in shock. "How do you know this?! Who told you?!""That doesn’t matter. What matters is

I stood there in a pure white gown, flowers in hand. It was the exact scene Ryan had always dreamed of.The only thing that stabbed at Ryan like a blade… was the one standing beside me. That position was supposed to be his.The media swarmed around us, leaving not even a crack of space. No matter how desperately Ryan tried to catch my attention, his voice was drowned out by the noise of the crowd. After a long while, my gaze drifted briefly in his direction. Our eyes met.Overwhelmed with excitement, Ryan waved wildly at me, but I only glanced past him with cold indifference, then turned and stepped into the car without looking back.Half his heart turned to ice, but he kept comforting himself.'It’s fine. It’s fine. Jenna just doesn’t believe I could possibly still be alive. Once she really sees me, she’ll run back into my arms.'Holding onto this fantasy, Ryan perked up again and sprinted after my car, shouting my name as he chased it down the road. Within moments, he was pin

The crowd witnessed our playful banter, and whispers quickly spread."Didn’t Jenna just lose her beloved? Why is she so close to Mason?""Is Mason the new alliance match the Alpha found for her? But I thought Mason hated alliance bonding the most. Didn’t he reject the ten or so matches the elders arranged for him and even blow up in anger?"Their guesses were, in fact, correct.I stepped onto the stage and announced my alliance bonding with Mason. The guests didn’t fully understand, but they still chose to congratulate us.News of this spread across every pack’s trending lists within hours. The party for us was held soon after. When it ended, I saw Sarah and Luke approaching in a hurry, both looking upset.Sarah frowned and questioned me, "Ryan just died, and you’re already rushing to find someone new?"I replied indifferently, "He’s dead. Am I supposed to stay single for the rest of my life?""He’s not even—" Sarah almost blurted out the truth.Luke cut her off immediately.

When I woke the next day, I only learned from the divine messages what I had done to Mason the night before.Someone in the messages exaggerated the entire scene from last night, making my face burn red with embarrassment.Just when I thought Mason had already left…I stepped out of my room and found him sitting at the dining table. When he saw me, he gave me a sweet smile. "Morning."Thinking of the divine messages, guilt surged through me. I stammered, "M-morning."I sat across from Mason and took a sip of coffee."I didn’t expect you to be so proactive last night."Immediately, the coffee in my mouth sprayed straight onto Mason’s face. I jumped up, grabbing napkins to wipe his shirt. "I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I just choked!"The moment my hand touched his clothes, he caught my wrist. He looked at me with unwavering seriousness. "If you really feel sorry… then think about how you’re going to take responsibility for me."I froze, and he continued, "I know you agreed to this alli

The moment I stepped off the plane, I saw my father waiting for me from a distance. After being away from home for so many years, the instant I saw him, all the grievances I’d been holding in burst free. I threw myself into his arms and cried my heart out.Dad looked at me with deep distress, gently stroking my head. "It’s okay. You’re home now. You’re home."I knew from the beginning that Ryan wasn’t a good one. To think he betrayed you and cheated with another she-wolf… I will not let him get away with that!"Curled in my father’s embrace, I felt a kind of peace I hadn’t felt in a long time. He told me that home would always be my safe haven.I cried for a long time, releasing years of pent-up pain. When I finally stopped, Dad wiped my tears. "Let’s go home. A guest is waiting for you."I asked, "Who?"He smiled. "Your alliance match. As soon as he heard you’d changed your mind, he rushed over. He’s already waiting at the house."When I arrived home, I saw a handsome male si

Ryan said, "Then let her go. She’s just throwing a tantrum. I can have her back with a single word."Sarah hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided not to stop him.I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but with the divine messages in front of me, I knew everything.Without another thought, I packed my things and left.Walking out of the villa, I pulled out my phone and scrolled to the very bottom of my contacts. I took a deep breath, gathered all the courage I had, and pressed call."Dad… about the alliance bonding you mentioned last time… I agree to it."My father clearly never expected me to come to him first. He became excited. "Good, good! I didn’t think you’d come around. I’ll contact Mason Shaw right away."I froze.Mason Shaw?He was my alliance match?Mason and I were high school classmates. He sat behind me, but we hardly interacted. Later, he had confessed to me, but at that time, my heart held only Ryan, so I had rejected him coldly.I still remember the di
