Regina's POV

I smiled, turning to face him. When I tried to hug him, he stylishly moved back, pushing me away from him. "What, are you being serious? I could never miss your party."

His expression was a stern one, deep brows furrowing. Dan was handsome, though lately I wondered what was with the new look. His dark brown hair styled neatly all the way back was his usual hairstyle but now his hair had turned to whitish blonde, and was cut shorter too. He was still handsome though, with his pale brown sexy eyes and charming dimples that crinkled whenever he smiled.

"I feel like you've been avoiding me, Dan. What is it?"

"Good evening everyone," in a sweet sonorous voice, a pretty lady in her mid fifties announced. Dan's mom was a lot of things, but she was never modest. Her outfit was extravagant and I wondered how she even walked in those huge heels and flared gown. Then the way she spoke, it was like she was God and we were mere peasants she created with her bare hands.

"Please let us welcome the celebrant of tonight, my darling son. Daniel Ellison." the whole room cheered in applause as she announced.

Dan made a grunt sound from either frustration or maybe fear. I advanced closer no matter how he kept stepping backwards." Don't be nervous, you got this!"

He eyed me from top to toes and shook his head before making his way to the stage. In that moment, I saw Kimberly appeared from nowhere and was about calling her name but Dan had started giving his speech.

"I am so very grateful to be standing before you all. Happy birthday to me once again, thanks mum, for everything." He said and his mother, Lloyd smiled and saved to the room. "Of course tonight is a special celebration of love as well, my gratitude goes out to the woman who has always been there for me. The one who's stolen my heart. The mother of my unborn kids,"

My heart froze in my chest as I heard him talked. Although a part of me felt cringed as all his confession sounded like cliche, and I vowed to tease him on that afterwards.

The crowd's cheers had grown louder by now. A tinge of embarrassment sent shivers down my spines as I thought of the face I would use to face everyone once I was up there on stage.

Then I heard...

"Kimberly Shay, I love you. Please marry me."

And my heart sank...

Behind me, as I'd to confirm I had not been dreaming, Mary and Rita's cheers were all over the room. Even Lloyd was smiling a little too happily. But my name was Regina. Regina Mildred... Not Kimberly!!!???

For a short while, I couldn't breath. The words were stuck in my head. Then the next few seconds, I had no control over myself again as I jumped forward and climbed the stage. People roared in gasps, wondering who I was, maybe? For having to interrupt a really important speech.

Kimberly eyed me up and down but Dan was the one who came forward to meet me.

"Hey, what are you doing here, please let's talk after the party." he said in a whisper, holding my hand to drag me away from the stage like I was some lunatic, but I stretched my hand free from him.

Not being able to control my emotions, bitter tears began to fall down my eyes. "What is the meaning of this? You're getting engaged to someone else? Kimberly of all! How dare you humiliate me like this!"

"And who the hell is this homeless charity trying to interrupt my son's party?" A woman's voice called out from behind. It was none other than the scary witch, Llyod Ellison, Dan's mother and sole heiress to the whole Ellison household. She was always respected, all over the country even.

Everyone feared her, including her only son, Dan. Maybe it was pain because I didn't feel any fear for this woman.

"Say whatever you like, Mrs Ellison, but this is between your son and I."

"But this includes me as well," Lloyd advanced closer with at least ten men all suited up, following behind. "You walk into this venue, and think you can crash my son's special day? Think again."

Llyod knew Dan and I were dating but she just never approved it. But I still blame Dan from time to time for not standing up for me. If he cared, he would be proud enough to formally introduce me to his mother, no matter how scary she may be.

" Mother, don't get worked up over this. I'm sure Regina has just realized what a big mistake she has made."

Slap!

Before Kimberly could say more, my anger had been worn thin because I slapped her right on her cheeks. It was as if I should slap her again!" How dare you, Kimberly? You of all people,"

"Lloyd, did you just see that! How can she hit me like this? She must not get away with this!" Kimberly began to fake tears though I was certain her cheek must really be burning by now.

"That's right. Security, take this filth away. I would like to have a word with her, take her to the cool room." Llyod said in a creepy voice as if the cool room was a dungeon.

The way Dan's eyes lit up showed his mother had no good plans for me. "It won't be necessary, mom. Because Regina is going to apologize right now and leave. Isn't that right, Regina?" He flashed me a raised brow, as if begging me to do as I'd been told. This was the same thing I had been doing for years, where has that gotten me to now?

"You know what?" I wiped my tears. I won't give them the satisfaction of seeing me cry. "Fuck you, and everyone here! It's over between us."

Dan chuckled. "What made you so sure there was ever anything between us?"

Kimberly actually snickered, causing the whole audience to laugh at me. I felt embarrassed and ashamed that I just stood there looking like a fool.

"Apologize right now and leave." Dan insisted.

What hurt was the fact that I had been so slow to suspect Dan ever cheating on me, especially with Kimberly. My whole world was falling apart now. I has ready resigned today. Where was I to begin now??

"Apologize now and say you're sorry for what you did to me, Regina!" Kimberly said, like the spoilt brat that she was. I turned to see Mary and Rita snickering in the crowd. Everyone of them had just betrayed me now.

"Or what?" I didn't want to show any weakness at all. "You'll mistakenly send your nudes to Dan's bodyguard like you use to do?" Kimberly's eyes widened at the mention of that. She shared most of her secrets with us and she has mentioned--several months ago, that she was hooking up with one of Dan's security guy.

"Or you Dan? Ready to tell everyone about how you take mommy's money for the least of all things because you're such an imbecile you can't do anything without your mom. You don't really want to start a war with me, Dan." I turned to face the crowd but my next words were for Lloyd.

Regina's POVHe's waking up. Three words. That was all.But something about them turned my blood cold, colder than when Dan betrayed me, colder than Lloyd's insults, colder than waking up in a hospital after my coma, afraid my baby wouldn't make it.Nicholas read the message over my shoulder. And for the first time in months, I saw something I never expected in his eyes. Terror."Nicholas..." I whispered. "Who's he?"He didn't answer. Not right away. Not even as Julia gasped for air behind us, or as Mike rushed into the estate with backup like we'd just survived a hostage crisis—again.Only when the ambulance took Julia away, and I held Nicholas's hand tight enough to draw blood, did he speak."The first heir." We were alone. Sitting in the back of the van.Hope safe, Julia sedated, Mike and Jenna watching every window like assassins would crawl through them any minute. I faced Nicholas."You better start talking."He took a long breath. Then dropped a bomb."My grandfather didn't lea

Regina's POVHope cooed softly in my arms, completely unaware that her entire existence had become a bargaining chip.I stared at the photo on my burner phone again.Julia Tied up with Blood on her face.Eyes wide in terror, but still alive.Barely. And that message..."Bring the child Or bury the mother." I nearly dropped the phone.Jenna, sitting across from me on the jet, saw the color drain from my face. "What is it? Regina?"I showed her. She didn't scream. Didn't cry.Just clenched her fists so tight her nails drew blood."We have to turn around," I whispered. "Now."Jenna grabbed my wrist. "No. That's exactly what he wants. You go back with Hope, you're handing him the power.""But Julia—""Wouldn't want you risking your daughter's life for hers. You know that."I stood, pacing the narrow cabin. "Then what do I do? Sit here while that monster tortures my mother? I can't, I won't!"She was quiet for a long moment. "Maybe... you don't need to go back alone."I arrived at the Ande

Regina’s POVThey said giving birth was the hardest part. They lied. The hardest part was holding your baby while staring at a death threat written in elegant cursive on hospital-grade paper unsigned, unbothered, and soaked in the scent of power.Nicholas barged into the room just as the nurse slipped out with a knowing look. His shirt was wrinkled. His sleeves rolled up. His hands. Blood.“Nicholas!” I gasped. “What—”He crossed the room in three steps and dropped to his knees beside my bed.“I’m okay,” he said hoarsely, brushing hair from my sweaty face. “But… he’s not.”My chest tightened. “Elias?” He nodded slowly.“Self-defense,” he said. “He tried to kill me. He failed.”I swallowed. “The police?”“The Keepers handled it. Covered it like a heart attack. No trail.” My body relaxed for half a second. Then I remembered the note. And held it out to him.He read it once. Then again. And then the fire returned to his eyes..Hope was sleeping.Which meant I had maybe twenty minutes befo

  • Betrayed By Ex, Loved By My Billionaire Boss    No hesitation

Regina's POVI watched the video over and over again. It wasn't the betrayal that shocked me Lloyd had always been a snake. It was how easy it looked. Like ordering coffee."I want the girl dead."She nodded with No hesitation.Like my life... like my baby's life didn't even matter.Nicholas had gone still beside me, fists clenched, jaw ticking like a time bomb."This was posted on a private server, meant for black-market contractors," Mike said, pacing the room. "Someone hacked it, probably to sell the hit. But the hacker sent it to me instead. Said they 'like rooting for the underdog.'""That makes two of us," Jenna muttered. But me? I couldn't speak.Because I felt the target on my back now. It wasn't paranoia anymore. It was real. And I wasn't ready. Not for what came next.Nicholas shoved our emergency bags into the trunk of a nondescript black SUV."I'm not risking another ambush," he muttered. "We move again. Tonight."I touched his arm. "We can't keep running forever."His eyes

Regina's POVJulia collapsed before I could even catch her."Nicholas!" I screamed, dropping to my knees. He rushed over, flashlight trembling in his grip. "Move, let me check her pulse."It was faint. But there.Still alive. Barely."Call Mike," he ordered. "Tell him to bring the backup team now. This place is compromised.""Power's dead. No signal."Nicholas muttered something savage under his breath and pulled out a device from his pocket one of those satellite communicator things. He sent a single pinged message. Then looked at me."Help me get her to the couch. Now."Her lips were cracked. Skin pale. Blood under her nails..She looked like a ghost.Except her eyes burned with clarity."Michael..." she whispered. "He never died.""I know," I said softly. "We saw the photo."She turned to me. "You don't understand. I saw him. Tonight. He brought me here. Then... he let me go.""Let you go?" Nicholas asked, frowning. "Why would he—?""Because he wanted her to know the truth," she sai

Regina's POVI stared at the photo.Michael Anderson. The man who ruined my childhood, faked his death, tried to kill me, and somehow still had the audacity to show up... breathing.Nicholas took the phone from my hand and zoomed in. "It's definitely him.""But how?" I whispered. "Gabriel exposed everything. Kimberly's gone. What else does he want?"Nicholas looked at me.Then at my belly. Then he said nothing. Which said everything.Julia dropped her teacup. Literally.Porcelain shattered against the marble floor as the image of her dead husband flashed on my phone screen."No," she breathed. "No, that can't be—he's dead. I saw the casket. I buried him. I cried."Mike stepped forward, expression grave. "We've sent the photo to facial recognition. Early scans are showing a 92% match to Michael Anderson's last known medical profile.""Then the bastard faked it," Julia whispered, staring at nothing. "He faked it all."I took her hand gently. "Julia—if he's alive, we need to stop him bef
