ARLENE

I jerked up from the bed, screaming.

“Arlene!" I felt a familiar set of warm hands grip my shoulders as my head swirled in circles. I groaned loudly and gripped my swelling head, trying to get the dizziness out of my eyes and see properly.

“Arlene? Can you hear me, Arlene?!”

Valerie's voice sounded distant as she called. I felt my body shake vigorously as she continued to call out to me until my eyes fully snapped open. I shuddered when her voice pierced my ears, clear and piercing.

I gasped loudly and looked up at her, breathing heavily.

Her face was pale with worry as she stared at me with her pretty almond eyes.

“Luna!" I gasped and slowly raised my trembling hand, then wiped the beads of sweat on my forehead.

“Are you okay?" She asked, and I nodded.

She sighed and reached into a bowl next to the bed. She pulled out a dripping towel from the bowl and squeezed water out of it, then pressed it down on my forehead.

ARLENEMy eyes slowly opened when rays of sunlight hit my closed lids. I groaned loudly in pain and stared at the blurry face staring down at me.The last thing I remembered was falling into the arms of one of my brothers, which meant I was in my Pack.“Valerie? My back hurts," I whispered, trying to shift on the hard, uncomfortable bed I was lying in.“Valerie?" I called again, wondering why her blurry face was just up there, staring down at me without moving. This was unlike her.Slowly, I rubbed my eyes, and the haze faded, revealing the face of the person staring down at me.My body stiffened, my eyes widened, and my chest tightened in fear and shock as I stared at the face.It wasn't Valerie, it was…“Adriana Nox!" I gasped loudly.“You recognize me? Ah! I forgot we share the same face," she spat out the venom in her.I gasped again and forced my body out of the paralysis it was subjected to, then jerked up.“How are you still alive? You should be dead!" I snapped, terrified.Wa

ARLENE“Thank you,” I muttered and paid the cab driver before getting out of the cab.I was back in my Pack to find the book that the janitor had talked about. I would never give up on my search, and soon, these people would be exposed.I swung my head around, searching for the janitor when the cab drove away.I turned around and headed in the direction of the bar where we had met. When I got there, I rang the bell and waited for the girl to answer the door.Soon, feet shuffled to the door of the bar, and she pulled the door, then looked up and stared at me with red, watery eyes.“Hello, welcome to the Century Bar," she said and moved out of the way. Her voice sounded weaker and seemed to have no life in it.I wanted to ask her what the matter was, but stopped and walked in instead. My heart clenched when I looked over at the table beside the window and found it empty. I glanced at the wristwatch strapped around my wrist, then back at the table. This was unlike him. The janitor was pu

ARLENEThe anger in me vanished the moment his lips trapped mine. When I should have pushed him away, I wrapped my hands around his neck and deepened the kiss.A moan escaped my mouth as he bit my lips softly and grazed his fingertips over the side of my left breast. My heartbeat increased, and I felt my wolf become alive again the moment his scent blended with mine and filled the room.I gripped him tight, daring not to let go even for a second. This could be the only chance I would get, and I needed to take hold of it.Miles broke the kiss and cupped my cheeks, staring into my eyes with eyes full of desire.Something I had never seen in his eyes before. My breath was raspy and almost lost as I stared into those eyes while trying to understand what was going on in his head. Was he going to make love to me? With desire and true love? Was he finally letting his wolf take control? These questions filled my head as I stared back at him, torn between excitement and worry. He pressed his f

ARLENE“Don't worry, I won't tell my brother where I saw you," Lucas said as we walked down the lane that led to the garden where Miles was.I narrowed my eyes and remained silent, refusing to say a word to him.He paused and looked at me, brows raising.“You won't say anything?" He asked, and I looked up at him."Say what?” I snapped, and he huffed loudly before facing me again.“Thank you," he blurted out.Despite how irritated I felt, I still couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous he sounded.“Thank you? You didn't do me a favor, Lucas, I'm sure you were there to gamble like you always do," I retorted, and he scoffed in disbelief.“Do you have evidence that I went to your Pack to gamble? The look in your eyes told me that you didn't want Miles finding out where you had been. You'd better show some respect if you want me to keep it a secret!” He groused.I took a step closer, staring boldly into his glaring eyes.“Do whatever you want, Lucas, I don't care!" I spat.Anger flashed

ARLENE With my dark shades on, I stepped out of the cab and paid the driver. My heart clenched when I spun around and faced the high school building that Adriana and I attended. The building brought memories rushing into my mind and displayed before my eyes. We were young and free. Even though we weren't free to make our own decisions, we were free from the toxic and demanding society. We were free from scrutiny and making sacrifices to live.I sucked in a deep breath and turned away from the building, heading to the bar the janitor wrote about. That bar would bring more pain and guilt, but I didn't care. I was ready to face it all as long as I uncovered the mastermind behind my sister's planned murder.I managed to keep my head down to avoid getting recognized by some of the Pack members that passed by until I reached the bar.As I stood in front of the old wooden door of the century-old bar, my trembling hand reached for the bell hanging on the front door and rang it.I stepped bac
