Randall’s POV

A loud howl escaped my lips as I staggered back into the Nightshade courtyard, still in my wolf form.

I was a walking nightmare, my dark fur matted with a mixture of my blood and the gore of the dozen rogues that I tore apart.

When I loomed over them, warning them to get out of my way, they refused, calling for reinforcement, which they felt could help them defeat me.

Fools!

Not even in a thousand years would rogues defeat a wolf like me. Not even in their dreams. Even if they

Lyra’s POVThe room went quiet for more than a couple of minutes, save for the soft breathing of the precious infant in my arms. I turned to Winston and looked him directly in the eyes. *He doesn't have to know,” I replied, letting out a soft sigh. “He lost the right to know about my child the moment he pushed me to my limits, throwing me to the wolves.”I turned my attention back to my baby who had woken up once again. I touched both her cheeks and she giggled but settled into a frown once again, probably annoyed she had to be woken up. “You can go back to sleep, you know,” I smiled, caressing her cheek and kissing her on the forehead. I held her still for a while until she shut her eyes once again to sleep. Sometimes, I wondered if I loved being an adult and wished that I were a child, just like her. All they knew was to eat and sleep. They had no care for anything else and didn't have to bear the weight that adults did. Well, the only downside was that they couldn't defend the

When I loomed over them, warning them to get out of my way, they refused, calling for reinforcement, which they felt could help them defeat me. Fools! Not even in a thousand years would rogues defeat a wolf like me. Not even in their dreams. Even if they were a hundred, I would have destroyed them all. The stench of the dead Rogues followed me as I continued to walk forward. Though I emerged victorious, the cost was enormous. First, I lost track of Lyra's scent after doing away with the last rogue. All the connections that I felt at that place vanished into thin air and no matter how hard I tried to find them again, I failed. Deep gashes marred my flanks, my ribs cracked from the sheer force of my own expansion. As I moved towards the main

Lyra’s POVGazing down at the tiny bundle of joy in my arms, my heart warmed and I smiled at her once again, gazing deeply into her beautiful eyes. I wasn't going to let the thought of Randall whom I saw in her eyes dampen my mood for a second. If anything, I was reminded of the bravery it took for me to be rid of him. That is, if I truly was. She stretched, her small fingers instinctively curling around my thumb and a soft gurgling sound escaped her lips. She gripped harder, refusing to let go as she kept her eyes on me, as if she was telling me that we belonged to each other and there was no going back now.I ran my eyes down her delicate features, my thoughts only harbouring one name; a name that I had always longed to call my child if she happened to be a girl. “Brianne.”It slipped from my lips as if it was always destined to happen. Back when I was a little girl, I always told my mother that I'd have loved to be called Brianna and that I would give my first child that name.

Lyra’s POVI groaned as my eyes slowly fluttered open. My vision was hazy but slowly began to clear up as I tried in vain to sit up. Glancing to my side, I spotted the familiar sight of my table. I was in my room. Thank goodness!I yawned, finally managing to put my right hand over my mouth. My head was heavy, my entire body wracked with a lingering hollow ache. I shut my eyes hard, trying to remember what just happened. The last thing I recalled was the metallic scent of blood and Elayne's panicking voice as she called out to me, asking me not to sleep. It turned out I actually slept. I had never been that good at listening to people anyway. “Lyra…”Elayne's excited voice snapped me out of my thoughts as my eyes opened once again. This time, my vision was clearer. I could properly see her beautiful face as she hurried over to me from the door. “Thank the Goddess! I was starting to get extremely worried about you,” she said, just as she got close to the bed. “Worried? Why? You d

Randall’s POV“Are you sure you don't want to eat anything?” Juan asked as I stepped out of the pack house. “I'm fine. I just want to be left alone to think. When I return to the study, I'll let you know. Until then, please provide me with more information about Max and what he's currently planning. We cannot have him take us unawares.”He nodded and turned to leave but I reminded him, “We are not to attack that man unless he attacks us first. What we want is peace and not another war but if he desires to fight us instead, we must be ready to fulfil his final desires.”He nodded curtly once again and headed back into the pack house as I continued my walk. Ever since Fiona warned me about Lyra's impending labour, I had been plagued by a mounting, inexplicable dread, crawling through my skin so badly that I could barely control my emotions. My wolf was restless, prancing inside me, unable to stay still or let me have any rest. So I decided to leave the pack house and head over to the

Lyra’s POVAs my vision started to fade, Winston lifted me and carried me out of the Ballroom, towards the Chambers with Elayne following closely behind. His face was a mask of sheer terror, his breath ragged as we neared the room. Elayne pushed the door open and he took me in. To my surprise, the midwives were already there alongside the pack doctor, moving sharply as Winston led me to the bed. The witches were there too. They must have informed the midwives even before we started coming. No wonder they weren't in the hall when the pain started. They had probably known this would happen and hurried to make arrangements in time. Placing me on the bed, Winston moved to the side, still holding my hand, allowing the midwives to quickly close in and check on my state. He tried to stay by my side, his hand white-knuckled as he gripped my hand, but the midwives quickly refused. “You need to leave us now, Alpha. You cannot be here,” they said.Reluctantly, he walked out of the room, leav
