MasukJoanna shrugged. "Well, since that's what you think, I'm not going to continue to argue with you."
Evelyn smiled, shaking her head. "It's what I believe, Joan, not what I think." She clarified. "Now, enough of talking about me, let's talk about you instead. Tell me, how is it going between you and my brother? Are you two back together?" As soon as those words left Evelyn's mouth, Joanna's body tensed up. Her expression slowly turned stern, as she said, "Evelyn, do I have to remind you that four years ago, your brother and I were done? Let's just leave it at that please." Four years ago, the bond between Joanna and Ethan had changed from sweet and lovely to hatred. They had dated for a year, but a very wild misunderstanding concerning Ethan's Ex-girlfriend had driven them apart. They never made an official break up, they had just drifted into silence while avoiding each other like a plague, despite their parent's close friendship. Even though, the two still feel something for each other, they had both kept their distance for four years now. Evelyn didn't want to ruin the good moment they were having, so she waved off the topic. Hours passed, and both girls enjoyed each other's company, catching up for the years they weren't in touch. Joanna filled Evelyn in on things happening in New York City, particularly the rumors going around the City about Alexander— how cold and indifferent he had been towards ladies. Their conversation leaded to Andrea, and Joanna couldn't wait to meet her and give Andrea a piece of her mind for messing with her best friend. No one messes with her best friend and get away with it. Whilst Evelyn deal with Chris, she would definitely take care of Andrea herself. She wanted to be the one to deal with her. A FEW DAYS LATER. At the sight of her brother's name popping on her phone screen, Evelyn rolled her eyes before grabbing the phone on the bed. She was in her room, engrossed in videos and now her brother had interrupted her. "This had better be important, Ethan," she hissed, her tone laced with irritation. It had been a week since her return, and she just wanted to enjoy herself for the time being before the engagement. For now, she was okay with being indoor, spending hours watching videos and playing games. She really didn't want anyone to disturb her, and she was relief everyone understood her. Even, Alexander. She had thought he would always drop by or bombarding her with calls, as their engagement was getting nearer. But, he never did. He had made sure to give her the space that she needed, even though, he badly wanted to be close to her. He would only text her in the morning and night— nothing too special. On one side, Evelyn wasn't expecting any kind of special treatment from him. But, on the other hand, she kept looking forward to seeing how he would treat her differently— she wanted more than just his texts. She was confused as to what exactly she wanted from him. Or, maybe because her mind kept wandering back to Joanna's words days ago— 'even the blind can see that Alex loves, yet you couldn't?' She still wondered what was there to see, because Alex hasn't given her yet any impression that he loves her in that way. "That's why you're my sister, very smart like me. Even though you can be dumb sometimes." He said, playfully with a slight of arrogance . "Then, maybe I should end the call," Evelyn threatened. But Ethan's stern voice stopped her, "Don't even dare." "What do you want, Ethan? I was having a nice time before you decided to disrupt it with your call ." She complained. "I need you to do something for me" Ethan began, his tone firm. Most times, he could be very playful but when he was serious, Evelyn knows it and she can't do otherwise. "There's an important files in my room on the center table, and beside them is a red flash drive. I need you to bring everything to Alex's office. I was supposed to take them with me this morning but I forgot, and right now, I'm stuck at Stamford handling a deal. It would take me at least two hours before getting back to the City, and Alex needs those files now." Evelyn could protest, but knowing the files were important, she reluctantly agreed. "Fine. Just know that you owe me one." "Yes-yes, whatever. Just go do it." After hanging up, she sluggishly dragged her two feets to her brother's room to get the files and flash drive. Returning back to her room, Evelyn sauntered into the bathroom and had a quick shower. Once she was done, she wore a navy blue strapless top and white palazzo trousers, pairing it with a white purse and 4 inch heels. She slipped her phone, card and some cash into her purse and then headed out. Twenty minutes later, her car pulled in front of Alex's company. Earlier before she left the house, she had told the driver her father had assigned to her that she didn't want him to drive her. Not because she didn't like or want him to, she just wanted to be herself today. As she parked her car, she hopped out and headed inside with the files in her hand. She's been to Alex company a few times, so she knows her way around. She went straight to the elevator, stepped inside and pressed the top floor. A minute later, the door opened. As Evelyn stepped out, she abruptly stopped walking. Her gaze landed on someone she hadn't expected to see there at all. Chris? What is he doing here?— she thought. Just then, Chris raised his head. And his eyes met Evelyn. The figure seated right next to Chris caught Evelyn's attention, and as she shifted her gaze, she knew her gut was right. It was Andrea. Andrea tensed upon seeing Evelyn. Chris, however, clenched his fist tightly, anger simmering within him. While they were there to submit a business proposal to Alexander, Chris believed Evelyn had tailed them to Alex's company and he was ready to lash out at her. He was still pained about how Evelyn had left without a word. He had been waiting for her to bombard his phone with calls and messages, apologizing for what she's done, but she didn't. He couldn't believe Evelyn would dare leave Los Angeles without apologizing for the things he believed she had done wrong. As if that wasn't enough, she had also left his house without informing him. As Evelyn approached them, in Chris's head, he had already calculated how he was going to deal with her. Meanwhile, Evelyn snorted, a cold smile spreading at the corner of her lips. Both Chris and Andrea had expected Evelyn to stop in front of them, but after flashing them a wicked smirk, Evelyn acted as if they were invisible and walked past them. She completely ignored them, as if she didn't know who they were. However, Chris wouldn't let her go just like that. Just as she was about to walk past him, he grabbed her wrist and roughly yanked her backward. Evelyn stumbled, losing her balance as she nearly hit her head on the wall. Getting to the hospital, they all rushed to the ER, following the description as the nurse at the counter had given to them. As they waited outside the door, minutes passed and turned to hours. Alice was worried about her daughter, and even though Victoria was also worried about Andrea, she couldn’t help but got worried about the trouble her granddaughter had caused them. She knew both the Blackwood and Martins family won’t take the issue lightly with them, and if care is not taken, they’re likely to get blacklisted for good. The tension was palpable. No one uttered a word. Everyone was left in their own world, thinking about the whole situation. Five hours later, the door swung open and the doctor walked out. They all rushed toward him, with Alice leasing the way. “How is my daughter?” She asked, breathlessly, her eyes widening in anticipation— good news. “The patient is stable now. But, she’s had fractured on her right arm and left leg. It might take weeks, or even months befo
The next morning, Alex was already at the Wilford’s mansion, in their living room with Victoria, her son, Henry and Alice, waiting for Andrea’s arrival. Last night, as Victoria called Andrea over the phone snd told her about Alex’s presence in their house, she was Andrea was scared. She had different thoughts swirling her mind. She thought, ‘did he know about my attempt to get Evelyn killed?’She had no choice but to take the next flight flying to Los Angeles the next morning after dropping the call. All through that night, she didn’t get a good night rest. Fear creeping out of her. She tried reaching Katherine, but realized she had been blocked after countless attempts to call and drop Katherine text messages. She arrived in Los Angeles safely, and Victoria had sent her personal driver to go pick her up from the airport. As they waited for her arrival, the room getting more and more tended, and everyone feeling uncomfortable with Alex’s presence. He hadn’t said a word since he e
HOURS AGOAlex arrived at Los Angeles airport, entered the car prepared for him by his men and they took him straight to the Wilford’s mansion. Minutes later, their car pulled into the Wilford’s mansion. Meanwhile, inside the house, one of Victoria’s guard had informed her about Alex’s sudden appearance. Her, Alice— her daughter in-law and Henry, Victoria’s son and Andrea’s father eyes widened in shock. “What?!” They all exclaimed in unison. “But why is he here? We have no business with the Blackwood,” Alice said, her voice laced with worry, with a ting of curiosity. No one wants to dare the Blackwood family, as they’re the biggest and most influential family in the whole United State of America. For years, the Wilford’s family had always maintained peace with the Blackwood, despite trying their best to partner with them which failed woefully — twice, they finally gave up. But now, the news of him barging into their house without any prior notice, means only one thing— trouble.
Andrea’s hand covered her belly— protectively, she instinctively shifted a little, her eyes glaring at him. “And what do you mean by that?” Chris’s gaze watched every of her move, before a soft sigh escaped his lips. “It’s not what you’re thinking.”Andrea’s eyes narrowed, her soft, delicate gaze now turning cold. “And what do you think I’m thinking?”“Getting rid of the child,” he answered nonchalantly. “Christian!” Andrea yelled, her eyes widening as her frown deepened. “I’ve thought about it carefully, and this is what I’ve come up with,” he began. Andrea’s eyes widened in hope. “Are you suggesting we get married now? We can’t let our child grow up in an unloved environment. I don’t want that for our child, or for us. Your baby and I need you the most, especially at a moment like this, Chris,” she said, clutching onto his arm as she moved closer to him. Chris’s gaze drifted from her face to their locked arms, then back to her face again, before a soft sigh escaped his lips. “I
Evelyn moved her body slightly, not feeling Alex’s body against hers, she abruptly fluttered her eyes open. Then, she saw him standing at the entrance, his gaze fixed on her, staring at her intently. She smiled, snd called out to him, her voice low and soft. “Alex.”Her voice brought Alex out of his trance. Though, his eyes were fixed on her but his kind were somewhere else. His cold expression slowly washed off, replaced by a tender gaze. He walked towards her, and took a seat beside her. Evelyn tried sitting up, and despite his warning to her to laid still, she didn’t listen. “Are you okay?” She asked, her voice laced with concern as she rested her head on his chest, his hand snaking around her shoulder to pull her more closer to his body. He nodded, took her hand and brought it up to his lip, giving it a soft kiss, making Evelyn’s heart fluttered at his action. “I’m fine, Evelyn,” he said.Of course, she knew he wasn’t, but didn’t press further. Even though he had tried to ma
This wasn’t how Alex had expected things to turn out. His initial plan was to find the mastermind and make them pay in ten folds to what they did to his woman. But now, involving the detective, it would be a little bit hard for him. It wouldn’t have, if Clara wasn’t totally involved.Aaron turned to his wife, one of his brow arched up— unbelievable. “You called the police?”Clara shrugged. “Well…” she began, her voice low and serious. “I thought you didn’t want to do anything about the accident, so I called the police to take in charge.”Aaron mentally rolled his eyes. He thought, ‘what would I have done if our two kids had taken this woman’s brain instead? I’m glad they took after me’Not wanting to disrupt their work, Aaron gave them the go ahead to do their job. They asked Evelyn questions, jotted it down and left afterward. Clara left to make Evelyn her favorite meal. Stella and Jasper left afterward, promising to come back to check up on Evelyn. Soon after, Evelyn drift off t
