A look of despair etched on Katherine's face. "You don't seem happy to see me."
She tilted her head, raising a brow at Alex. Alex stepped back, closed his eyes and opened them again. He pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head slightly. "That's not it. When did you return from the states though?" Katherine rolled her eyes and walked towards the sofa, taking her seat. "I came back last night. Dad and Mom were so thrilled to see me, but it seems my only brother isn't that pleased on seeing me." She responded. Katherine was an adopted daughter of the Blackwood's family. After Stella had complications during childbirth following Alex's birth, she and her husband decided to adopt a baby girl— Katherine. She entered the Blackwood family at the age of 2, and was pampered and well taken care of by the whole family ever since then. "I heard you're finally getting married to Evelyn. Is that why you didn't want me here? You're afraid you might start dividing your attention between the both of us?" She asked again, narrowing her eyes at Alex. Despite the fact that she sounded pissed, Alex didn't notice anything. He rolled his eyes, grabbed his phone from the table and slipped it into his pocket. "You're my sister, and Evelyn is the woman I love. It's two different things." He clarified. Katherine pouted, while Alex busied himself buttoning his shirt. At the same time, the main door pushed opened and his assistant, Jeffery walked in. "Mr. Blackwood, the car is ready." He announced. Alex nodded, and then turned to his sister. He didn't say a word, but his eyes says it all— get up, and let's go. Pretending not to understand the look on her brother's face, Katherine asked, "What?" "Get up, I'm running late for work." He said, sternly. Katherine adjusted herself comfortably on the sofa, removing her heels. "Well, I will be spending a few days here with you in this house, so you can just go to your work and I will be right here waiting for your return." Alex, not in the mood for her mischief, just shook his head. "Don't ruin anything in my absence, Katherine. I just replaced everything yesterday." He warned her, his tone stern. Katherine immediately shot him an angry glare, her tone dripping with disdain. "You didn't do all of this because of Evelyn again, did you?" Alex shrugged and muttered, "Obviously." "What? Are you freaking kidding me?!" She exclaimed , staring at him unbelievably. She looked around, before landing her eyes back on Alex again. "You spent millions of dollars to replace everything in the house just for some woman?!" "Evelyn isn't just any woman, she's the one I'm about to marry— the woman I love." "Yet, she shamelessly went ahead to go be with another man for so many years." She murmured under her breath. But Alex heard everything loud and clear. He shot her a deadly glare, his tone laced with authority. "If you still wish to stay here in my house, you better watch what you say about Evelyn. Otherwise, we will have a bigger problem, understood?" He warned her. But Katherine remained silent, refusing to answer him His voice rose, and his eyes flashed with anger. "Am I making myself clear?" Katherine flinched at the tone he just used on her, and muttered softly, "Yes." As Alex walked out of the house, she clenched her fist tightly, her face turned fury. Alex had never shouted at her. This was his first time doing so, and she couldn't believe it was all because of Evelyn. As she continued to clenched her fist, she made a promise to herself— Just wait and watch, you're never going to end up with my brother. I will make sure of that. • At the Martin's estate, while Clara and her friend, Joanna chatted in the garden, their daughters were in Evelyn's room, where she was trying to win Joanna over after been ignored by Evelyn for years. Evelyn grabbed Joanna's arm, shaking it playfully and whining like a child. "Come on, didn't I already apologize? It's been twenty minutes since I've been trying to get you to talk to me." Joanna, still feigning hurt and upset, frowned and refused to budge. She gently removed her hand from Evelyn's grip, and turned to her. "It still can't beat the amount of times I tried getting in touch with you, Evelyn. Do you have any slightest idea of how worried I was about you?" Evelyn let out a heavy sigh. "I do. Trust me, I really do." But Joanna shook her head. "No, you did not. Because if you do, you wouldn't have blocked my contact." "You blocked me from communicating with you because I was trying to knock some senses into this silly head of yours." She complained again, tapping Evelyn's head. Evelyn recalled everything, and regretted her past actions. She had acted impulsive towards the people who had genuinely loved her. She recalled Joanna's countless calls, advising her that choosing someone like Chris over Alex was a big mistake. At their last conversation, Evelyn got pissed at Joanna's constant nagging, and looking down on Chris. She remembered telling Joanna to go be with Alex since she believed he was that great and blocked her contact afterwards. Then, everyone kept advising her, but she turned a deaf ear. She blindly trusted Chris and fought with all her loved ones for his sake. Something he wouldn't do for her. But now, she has realized how silly and foolish she was. She wished she had listened to them back then. "You're right." Evelyn muttered, agreeing with her. "Well, it's now in the past." Joanna waved if off. "Let's talk about you and Alexander." She continued, as she flicked an eyebrow playfully at Evelyn. "I heard you two will be getting engage soon?" "Well... I-" "Don't tell me you're planning on backing out again?!" Joanna glared, pointing her index finger at Evelyn. Evelyn flashed her an unbelievable look. "What?" She chuckled, and then shook her head. "I wouldn't do that, Joan. That's going to look very childish." Joanna breathed a sigh of relief. "Well, thank goodness you're aware of that. So, how is it going between you two? Dates? Calls? Have you both said the magic words to each other?" "Are you serious? I just agreed to the engagement thing not even up to a week yet, and you expected us to have done all of those things you had listed?" "What's wrong with that? You two are set to marry, you know." Joanna pointed out. "I know, but it's not as easy as you think. Besides, Alex don't love me that way. We're only doing this because of our parents." Joanna leaned back, tilting her head as she stared at Evelyn unbelievably— as if saying, do you have an idea of what you're saying? "Wait, you think Alex doesn't love you?" Evelyn shrugged, chuckling. "Obviously." "What are you saying, Evelyn? Even the blind can see it, yet you couldn't?!" "Don't get it twisted, Joan. Alex likes me, he can be very protective of me but that's because he regard me as his little sister. Nothing more."He nodded slightly, with a hint of smile playing at the corner of his lips. “Trust me, it is funny,” he said, walking over to the couch at the center of the room and taking a seat. Her eyes narrowed at him as she watched him seat. “It’s not funny, Alex. And what are you doing?” She asked, her tone laced with a mix of curiosity and annoyance.Annoyed because her mother has been able to play her smart. And curious why Alex was sitting down, when he was supposed to be looking for a way to get them out of this mess her mother had put them in. He decided to tease her as a mischievous glint began to spread across his face. “I’m staying, why?” He asked, feigning an innocent look. For a moment, Evelyn’s gaze locked onto his, her expression a mix of shock and disbelief. For a moment, Evelyn locked gaze with him, with an unbelievable look before saying, “What do you mean, why? You know you can’t stay here, right? This is my room, and you have to look for a way to get out of here, Alex,” she
All these scene were witnessed by Katherine. She stood hidden from the view, her eyes blazing with fury. Her fists clenched tightly, rage simmering all within her body.Just as Evelyn walked away, Katherine turned around and also left the place, slipping away unnoticed so Alex wouldn’t suspect anything. Meanwhile, Andrea didn’t waste time and poured out her heart to Chris— more like confronting him. “Chris, what was that you just displayed back there?” She asked angrily, her voice laced with rage as she confronted him in the car.Chris exhaled heavily, his eyes fluttering closed before snapping open again. “This is not the right time to have such conversation, Andrea,” he said curtly, his tone lacing with dismissive.“Of course, this is the right time to talk about it,” she hissed, her eyes flashing with anger. “You need to give me an answer. I need to know, are you trying to dump me now that you know she’s filthy rich?”Her tone was etched with deep anger, her words very clear— th
Evelyn turned to Chris, her gaze cold and piercing. She’s had enough of him already and it was time for her to end their situation-ship, which she once believed was a relationship once and for all.But before she cut ties with him, she would let Chris know that she saw right through him already. She confronted him, and revealed to him everything she knew about his secret relationship with Andrea, without sparing any details. Even though she was furious, yet her composure were laced with calmness.Chris blinked his eyes repeatedly, struggling to process all that Evelyn had revealed to him. Though, he knew she had been suspicious of his relationship with Andrea, but didn’t realized she had gotten so much detailed knowledge already. He began to speak, his voice barely above a whisper as he tried to pacify her. “Evelyn, I-“He took a step closer to her, trying to close the gap between them but Evelyn already took a step back, and Alex swiftly matched her movement, his hand extending pro
Evelyn rolled her eyes before turning to face him. She met his burning gaze, a fake surprise look etched on her face. “Oh, Chris, you’re still here?” She asked, raising a brow.Chris walked closer, closing the distance between them. “What was the meaning of that?” He asked, his tone cold and authoritative.Evelyn feigned an innocent look, her brow furrowed in confusion. “What was what? What are you talking about?” She asked. Chris’s anger simmered, his eyes narrowing at her. “Stop acting like you don’t know what I mean. You’re fucking related to the Martins? Why did you hide that fact from me?” Evelyn shrugged. “Because I didn’t feel like telling you,” she answered, her tone casual.“Don’t fucking give me that crap!” He yelled, his voice rising as his chest heaved with rage. “We were together for four years, yet you hid such a big secret from me? Do you have an idea of what you’ve done?”In her calm demeanor, Evelyn asked, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “So, are you upset because
Time flew by fast, as the party began. Foods and drinks were served to the guests, as Aaron and his wife, Clara took over the stage, both thanking everyone for coming."Ladies and gentlemen, our esteemed guests, we're honored to have you here with us tonight," Aaron began, his voice filled with happiness and gratitude. "We invited y'all here to celebrate my precious daughter, Evelyn.”"Four years ago, I had a deep misunderstanding with my daughter. I know I shouldn’t be saying this tonight as it’s a joyful moment, but we all know joy has it’s own way of revealing our true feelings,” he said, and majority of the guests burst into laughter. “She left home, and I must admit that I missed her very much. But after four years, we’re blessed to have her back and tonight, I’m proud to announce her engagement to Alexander Blackwood, a young, very capable man I’ve come to regard as my son. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the future Mrs. Blackwood, my daughter, Evelyn Martins and her fian
They had both received an invitation from Evelyn. Evelyn had deliberately invited them to her engagement party under the name of Clara Martins— which was her second name. It was the name given to her by her maternal grandmother. They wouldn't have suspected the name was connected to her as they hadn’t seen the real Clara Martins before. She had deliberately invited them to show her real self to them tonight. Also, both Chris and Andrea saw the invite as a step closer to one of the aristocrats in the country.Chris had thought he would need Evelyn to get closer to the Martins family, but after getting the invite from Evelyn, which he hadn’t realized yet was from her, his plan to coax Evelyn and win her over was now useless.Evelyn walked closer to them, standing right in front of them with a sly smile still playing at the corner of her lips.“What are you doing here?” Chris asked coldly.Evelyn rolled her eyes, meeting his gaze. “Stop asking me dump questions, Chris. You clearly kno
