I woke up feeling like I had been run over by a truck repeatedly. The throbbing in my head only got worse as I opened my eyes. I sat up, trying to figure out where I was, in a completely unfamiliar room. What the hell did I do last night? I looked down, seeing that I was still wearing my wedding dress, and that is when all the memories came rushing back. They make my stomach churn, and I feel like I am going to throw up at any second. I start letting out some of the many colorful insults my trucker mouth knows. The bastard deserves every single one of them, and I won't hesitate to say them to his face the second I get the chance. "Those are not words a lady should use," I looked at the amused man leaning against the closet. I froze completely at the sight of him, so much so that I didn't even dare to breathe. This could only happen to me. I mean, normal people, who think and act rationally, don't suffer from these kinds of problems. But what bothers me the most about all this is that I have zero history of sneaking into a stranger's house during what I assume is the drunkest night of the year. This was all David's fault. If he had just told me the truth, we could have figured something out. But he only cared about his image. "Hey, breathe. Ryan will kill me if he finds out I'm bothering you." I open my mouth but close it right away; it seems I have lost my ability to speak. "Hi," I say in such a calm and innocent way that no one would think I am about to have a stroke. "How are you? I am sorry for stealing your bed." "May I ask what you are doing here?" Even though he tries to hide it, I can see the amusement in his eyes. "I... well..." I start smoothing out the wrinkles in my dress, suspecting I must look like a woman who just escaped from a mental institution. "I don't know." As soon as I blurt out my confession, I see him fighting a smile. "You don't know? So tell me, little pom-pom, do you usually go to a stranger's house dressed as a bride?" The bastard is making fun of me, but I am too embarrassed to insult him, not to mention the fact that I am in his house. "My name is April," I say to stop him from calling me pom-pom again; any bulkiness on my body is the dress's fault. Seeing him start to laugh only begins to awaken my true self. "I want to apologize, you know, for any trouble I might have caused last night. The truth is I don't remember anything, not even you. I am not someone who usually drinks or wakes up in a stranger's bed." Seeing him not say anything only encourages me to continue my senseless rambling. "Clearly, when you met me last night I was going through a rough patch. I am not making excuses, and I truly thank you for rescuing me. Your house is very nice." "Is it?" Now his smile shows his teeth. He is attractive, even though he is mocking me. "I thought I heard you say you didn't remember anything, so how do you remember the rest of my house?" Shit. How much nonsense am I spouting? I feel incapable of putting together a coherent sentence, though his attitude is just turning my embarrassment into annoyance. "I did say that and it is true, but if the rest of it is as cozy as this room, it must be a perfect place." My voice sounds like a cat being tortured. I feel tortured right now. "Little pom-pom, you clearly drank too much last night, but did you take any other substances? You know, because you still seem a little high." Now my eyes double in size, and I no longer care about being nice to this idiot. "I have never done drugs, you massive idiot!" Even though I am furious, he just seems more amused. "Are you sure? Not even a little pill?" I narrow my eyes, debating whether to jump on him and beat him until I am exhausted. "Of course not, I am not that kind of person!" This time I am yelling, but this man is just exasperating. "Don't get mad, little pom-pom. I am not judging you, I just care about your safety." I let out a sound of disbelief, and he bursts out laughing. "What are you doing here, Michael? You said you were just going to use the bathroom." We both look at the newcomer. This one does look familiar to me. "I just saw little pom-pom and came to say hi. I didn't know you made a habit of stealing brides now. That is not cool, Ryan." But he is still highly amused. "Shut up, idiot. I hope you didn't say anything bad to her." He then turns to look at me, but I am too defensive right now to appreciate how attractive he is. "April, I apologize for anything he might have said to you. He is an idiot most of the time." "He proved that when he asked me if I was high," I spit out like a punch. "You told her that?" This Ryan guy directs his anger at his friend. "I was just joking. Little pom-pom, I just wanted to make you laugh, you looked so scared." He sits at the foot of the bed and crosses one leg over the other. "Come on, tell Uncle Mitch. What is the problem?" "Oh my God, that sounded really creepy. Thanks, but no. In fact, I think I should go now. I need to go and jump off the first bridge I see." "Bunny, I hope you are joking." I look at Ryan as he speaks. "I understand what happened to you, but your fiancé doesn't deserve that much importance." "Ex-fiancé," I remind him. "Hey, wait a minute. Bunny?" "You are leaving. I need to talk to April and take her home." I watch as Ryan escorts Michael out of the room. Well, apparently it was Ryan who brought me here. As I stare at the door, I think about how I am going to have to face my problems today.APRIL"April, what is wrong?" It was the third time Summer had asked me without getting an answer. "Come on, trust me, I do not like seeing you like this.""We need to get Mr. Patterson's bulldog ready, he will be by to pick him up in 20 minutes. Can you check that everything is in perfect condition?""Sure, April, I will do it right away." She sighs, annoyed, but I will not say anything to her."Thanks..." I could not help but replay the conversation with my father over and over in my head.Around noon, I see Ryan walk through the door. We had agreed to have lunch together, but with everything going on, I had forgotten."Bunny." Just that makes me relax. Taking me by the waist, he leaned in to place a kiss on my lips. "I hope you are ready to get out of here." I simply wrapped my arms around his shoulders and hugged him.I needed a hug so much today."So my mother was not wrong, and you really are a slut?" That voice, one I had loved so much over the years, and now it only makes me f
MeganI do not think I have ever seen anyone as upset as Jack is right now.On the way to his house, he did not say a single word. I guess his head was full of things, while I did not say anything because I was too scared to open my mouth. When we walked into his house, things did not change much. His body was giving off a sort of "do not come near me" signal, and God knows I was not going to."What were you thinking? I only asked you to stay inside." Even though he did not yell, his tone made me feel so small."I wanted to be responsible...""Do not lie to me, angel, and do not lie to yourself. What you wanted was to prove that you are not weak. You thought, I will go to school and show everyone they are exaggerating. Well, breaking news, you were wrong, and you exposed everyone in a ridiculous way.""I know I made a mistake, but I really did not think he would dare. The school was full.""The building I pulled you out of was too, and that did not stop him from setting it on fire. Yo
JackWe were called for an apparent emergency, but when we arrived, there was nothing. I cannot believe people joke about this; while we are coming here, we might be needed somewhere else. My annoyance only grows. I still haven't spoken to my angel; I am getting the damn cold shoulder just for wanting to protect her. I look for my phone thinking about calling her to see how everything is going, but I cannot find it. I hope I did not lose it."Jack, we have a problem." I looked at Nathan, who was holding his phone."What happened now? A fake cat stuck in an imaginary tree?" I sighed in anger."No, actually, it is a moon trapped in a school, with a fire and a wolf," he shakes his head as I erupt."She dared to escape! I asked her to stay in the house. Is she foolish?" I growled so loudly that my teammates took a step back."Calm down, Jack, Ryan is taking care of it." Nathan's amused tone had vanished."Let's go to the school," I say, already heading to the truck. "What are you waiting
Megan"Children, continue with your work, I will be right back." I walk out of the classroom with a calmness that I clearly lack. I approach the door to Susan's classroom and knock until she comes out."What is wrong? You are pale and you look scared." Her look is worried. Do I really look that bad?"He is here. My God, Susan, I should have listened to Jack. Do not tell him I said that, but I cannot believe he actually dared to come. What are we going to do now?""I will go find Jeremy, you call Jack." What? No..."Um... no. We can solve this. I am not suicidal enough to tell him I sneaked out. Susan, I am sure he hasn't even noticed yet.""Do not start right now," she looks at me, annoyed. "Call him, this is serious, Meg." And with that she leaves, surely to look for Jeremy.I look through the door's window at the calm children, oblivious to the lunatic nearby. I cannot be so selfish and not protect them. Sighing, I take out my phone and prepare for a battle I have already lost. I he
MeganTelling Susan that I would stay with Jack was not as easy as I thought, especially with her making a scene. The good thing was Jeremy's presence and the fact that Jack promised he would not let anything happen to me. But that was a walk in the park compared to the conversation I am having right now with Jack."You cannot tell me not to go to work, that is crazy. Do you understand that it is my responsibility?""Now is not the time, angel, you do not understand things. Here at home you will be safe, there is no need for you to expose yourself like that." My eyes narrow and my patience reaches its limit."If this is how it is going to be, I am leaving. Not just to work, I am leaving this place. You do not own me, Jack. I have been working non-stop for two years, I cannot just leave everything hanging, do you understand? Besides, Susan and Jeremy will be there, they will not leave me alone, nothing will happen to me.""You are not going, angel, and that is my final word." Damn poss
MeganI see him before me, and he looks devastated. Perhaps I am being selfish; it cannot be easy to tell someone you are a wolf. I am a damn selfish witch!"What you said does not bother me. I was surprised that you were a wolf, but I am scared of what you might do to me." His expression is uncertain, and I know that is my fault."I would never do anything to you, angel. To hurt you would be to hurt myself. Since I discovered you were my mate, I have done nothing but protect you. After what happened yesterday, I have no intention of letting you out of my sight, even if you do not want me around." He lowers himself, sitting against the wall just like me. "I will not be like your ex-boyfriend. I intend to protect you from him.""When you asked me if I believed in the supernatural, well, I thought you had already figured it out. I mean, I never imagined you would tell me you were one yourself. I knew you were hiding something from me, but I thought of many different things." I was so wr
