"Give me another one." I lost count of how many shots I have had, but I don't care, anything to forget this awful day. The humiliation I feel surpasses any level I have ever known. This has been absolutely horrible! "Are you sure, honey? It might not seem like it, but if you keep going like this, you are going to get sick." I looked at the man, who watched me with sympathy. "I couldn't feel any worse. Plus, they are coming for me, so it is not a problem." That was a complete lie. No one was coming for me, for the simple reason that they had no freaking idea where to find me. He hands me my drink and I down it in one gulp. It burns like hell, but it helps me feel something other than the pain in my chest. It was time to process the events of the day. The man who was going to be my husband wasn't who he had made himself out to be, nor was he my best friend, like I had naively thought. I wasn't going to get married anymore, or start the family I imagined. The wedding I had dreamed of for years? It was completely eclipsed by lies and deceit. In the middle of my thoughts, I feel someone approach me and I turned around to tell him to get lost, but his face looks familiar. I don't know where I have seen him, but he is incredibly attractive. Maybe I can have some fun today and stop feeling sorry for myself for once; after all, it is my wedding night. "Hi," I say, giving him what I attempt to be a provocative look. "Hi. Are you feeling better?" His question throws me off. How does he know I am not okay? "No, but I could be. Do you want to get me out of here?" I am usually shy, but not today. Today, I am going to have fun. "Sure, bunny." I watch him put several bills on the bar before helping me up. "Careful with the dress. Without shoes, you might step on it and fall." "I won't step on it, although I might burn it. This," I say, grabbing the layers of the dress, "is going to hell, where I won't have to see it anymore." "Alright, but no playing with fire just yet. You are a bit drunk right now and you might burn yourself." That makes me laugh. "Then the firefighters will have to show up," I say, laughing like a maniac. I didn't even have a stripper at my bachelorette party; they could give me a striptease. "It is a good thing I am a firefighter, bunny. I won't let anything happen to you." Still smiling, I turned to look at him, and he is completely serious, totally oblivious to my thoughts. But I have already pictured him in his uniform, and without it. "Are you really a firefighter?" "Yes, I am." It seems he is not a man of many words, unlike me, who, possessed by alcohol, has no filter. "That is good, then you can help me put out the flames. Today I need a strong, capable man. And you look perfect," I murmured, leaning against him. He looks capable, not like David. Damn David. Once we get in his car is when I remember where I know him from. He is the idiot who almost ran me over. "You almost killed me today," I point at him, annoyed. "Bunny, you threw yourself at the car. I barely had time to brake." He starts driving calmly, as if this happens to him every night. "I was running away," I say, as if that were enough of an explanation. "From your wedding?" "From the guy who was supposed to be my husband. I loved him, you know? He was my best friend since we were kids. I respected his decisions, no matter how idiotic they were. For God's sake, I never had sex because he believed in saving himself for marriage." He slams on the brakes, turning to look at me. "What did you say?" "You heard me. He asked me to wait until we were married. And he was doing it, I saw him today." "He cheated on you at your wedding?" "From what I saw, he has been cheating on me all along." I feel a tear roll down my cheek at the memory. "What do you mean?" He probably thinks I am crazy. "I was finishing getting ready and I heard him. I walked closer and there were moans. I opened the door and I saw him. He was having sex... with the best man." Now his eyes are wide. "Do you understand why I feel so awful? I was his best friend, I would have supported him. But he led me on, we were going to get married. Good lord, he never would have been able to touch me. He was going to condemn us both to a life of deceit. He just saw me as a cover for his masculinity." "That really is a heavy thing to see on your wedding day." I know he was trying to sound sympathetic, but his voice came out nervous. "It is bullshit. I am an idiot, you know? How did I not see it? I thought he cared about me, that he loved me, but I was just useful to him." My self-esteem right now is ready to be buried. "Relax, bunny. Tomorrow you will see things differently." I didn't believe him. "Why do you keep calling me bunny? My name is April." Then I remember I don't know him. "And yours?" "Ryan." His hand is firm over mine. "And I call you bunny because I saw you all white, fluffy, soft, innocent, and you are someone I feel like I am going to have to hunt." "Well, you caught me today. Are we almost there?" "Almost. Rest, bunny, I will wake you when we get there." I obey because I am tired and my head hurts. I just hoped that when I woke up, everything would have been a nightmare.AbbyI stalled by walking around almost the entire hospital. There were still many unattended patients, which gave me the perfect excuse to delay our conversation. I did not even know if he was awake yet and I was already making up excuses to avoid seeing him.Very good maturity level, Abigail Colman! As I walked slowly, very slowly, to the room where Michael was, I thought about what I would say to him. The guys said I should let him explain, Dr. Myers said I should face my ghosts. And I knew Ryan had been the most accurate; I was resisting out of fear of losing someone important to me again. My resistance was so strong that I almost lost him today. What would have happened if they had not managed to get him out? What if he had bled to death on the way? I tried to ignore the feelings of pain and the tightness forming in my chest just thinking about it.When I entered the room, he was still unconscious. He looked so peaceful that I envied that state. My hand seemed to have a mind of i
AbbyI could hear them talking and it calmed me to know that they had not suffered serious injuries either. I approached almost soundlessly, while they continued their conversation. They were so focused that they did not seem to notice me."He is a fucking idiot, we told him to get out and he did not do it. What was he planning? To kill himself?" Logan growled."We know he is not the same, he is even more reckless than before." As I observe Jack, I can see how his arm is still bleeding. Despite being told that they were treated, I see that they were not."Do you think he is okay? He was quite hurt." Stepping out of my hiding spot, I decide to answer the question that was meant for Jack."He is fine, he just needs a few stitches. I took care of treating him, so he should wake up any minute."When they looked up at me, I leaned in to grab the necessary things to treat Jack's arm. They just looked at me as if trying to figure out if it was really me and how they should talk to me."They
Abby"Abby, could you go check on Mr. Thomas?" I looked at Elena, my new nursing supervisor."Sure, I will go right now," I commented with a slight smile.I have spent this last month trying to get used to my new routine. It was hard to get the transfer, but when I achieved it, I did not hesitate. I could not stay there, I did not feel comfortable.I have not seen anyone since that day; since I ran, I completely moved away from the city. Let's call it a fresh start, one where I was completely alone, where I had no family, no friends, and not the boy I love.It was not easy to leave all that behind, especially considering that your head seems to fight against the idea of not seeing him anymore. I just need time; with time, everything is forgotten and overcome. Even if I wanted to, I cannot go back now. What would I say? I still cannot shake the image of seeing him turn into that wolf.Dr. Myers, the psychologist I visit every Tuesday afternoon, told me it was common; the loss of a love
AbbyWhen I heard the sound of bones and clothes breaking, I did not understand what the hell was happening. I only knew that I should not look up; I did not want to and I refused to.I tried, but I clearly failed. Only then did I see how that huge dog occupied the place where Michael was before. My mind works in strange ways; I did not understand, or did not want to understand, how the guy I was in love with was a dog. And not in the usual sense, he was literally a dog.I directed my gaze to Jack, but when his eyes met mine, he looked away. I searched for the gaze of the others, and they all avoided me. Did they turn out to be cowards now?Everything was happening too fast. One moment I was watching the dog, or Michael, walk towards us, and I was just hoping he did not want to eat me.I closed my eyes in fear, this was madness. It was surely the stress caused by this situation. But if that was the case, why was the giant dog still walking towards me?"Calm down Abby, he will not hurt
Michael"We found something." When Anibal said that, we were standing right next to him. Mostly me, I do not mind saying it; I grabbed the man by the lapels of his suit and planted a kiss on him worthy of an Oscar. Unfortunately, my display of gratitude was not well received, as he pushed me away and started rubbing his mouth. He does not know how lucky he was.But the good thing was that there was finally news. We were running out of options, we could not think of anywhere else to go. Ordoñez had called to let us know they still had not found anything. Frustrating? Yes, police incompetence was fucking frustrating. But what could we do? According to them, wait for updates, otherwise, we would hinder the search. In my opinion, a damn joke!"What are you waiting for to tell us where they are?" Ryan growled."I am trying to wrap my head around the idea. Believe it or not, it is important to me too. I am fucking in love with Abigail." And there it was again. How many more times was he goi
MichaelSeven hours. Seven fucking hours! They had passed and I still did not have a single damn clue about where my mate was. Thousands of questions swirled in my head and I did not want to answer them for fear they would come true... Where could she be? Were they treating her right? Who the hell was the damn coward that dared to take them? Those were some of the questions that shattered my peace of mind. I was shaking like an addict who had not had his fix."I am getting tired of waiting for that fucking useless guy to move his ass and find my woman," Ryan growled, overly annoyed."You calm down too, we managed to calm down the big guy with a minion complex and now you are starting. Do not mess with me!" At that, I look up, directing my gaze at Robert."Who said I am calm? I am simply waiting for the best moment to act." They are crazy if they think I will be calm with my mate in the hands of a lunatic.I am waiting for them to get distracted so I can run out of here. The first plac
