The earth seemed to be at a pause from either rotating or revolving at this point to me . I was trying to really understand why Uncle Draco would want me instead of his money.

"He wants to marry you off to his son. " my mom continued as she sniffed.

"He lent us the money when you were still two years of age. You were sick then and as a friend he was , he gave us the money while betrothing you to his son. As family friends then, we agreed. But not now...not anymore.." she paused sniffing.

Now, this is getting understandable. I recalled that he and my dad were pretty much close until before my dad died.

My dad had mentioned to me, in his words "that he and Uncle Draco ain't in the same category of business anymore " . I'd asked him about uncle Draco and why he suddenly stopped visiting us after my dad got demoted , then he said those words. I didn't understand those words, but all I knew was that Mr Draco now acted mean and looked dangerous.

I got snapped out of my train of thoughts when my mom drew me to an embrace. I could feel a woman trying to be so strong and not to surrender, yet the reason for being strong is her weakness as well. I could feel a woman determined to achieve the impossible, although it will be difficult. She cried out in my arms as though she felt her fight would be of no use, she cried as if she already knew that I would be taken from her, she cried as though this would be our last long embrace.

Hell no! I raised her chin and looked at her intently "Mom, I won't leave you and I'm ready to do anything for us to repay Mr Draco his fifty-five million dollars....even if it means not catching sleep for a week, mom" I assured her .

Ray barged into the living room, panting heavily in anger. He stared around and caught the sight of his father, lighting up a cigarette as usual. A fat envelope was on the large table there.

"What have you done, Dad?" he asked fuming.

But the man kept smoking, puffing smoke at Ray's face. His three bouncers were there, anxiously waiting for their boss to give a command, so they would bundle Ray out of his presence.

"Draco!" he yelled his father's name and just before two seconds could pass by, Draco gave him a punch across his face. His bouncers wanted to actually do that, but he declined them and punched Ray within a second.

"This guts, because of a lady? Ray, you dare not disrespect me in my house. I'm not just your father, but also the Lord of the most powerful mafia in this country. I have separated you both and you only do my bidding , else you would cease from being the mafia heir"

Ray gnash his teeth and if not for these bouncers, his father was just a frail man that keeps trying to be so strong.

Looking at his father in the eyes while fuming, he said;

"I do what I want to do in my personal life. And to hell with your godforsaken mafia...you should know I'm barely interested in that ".

He stormed out of the living room. Draco simply let out a dry laugh, as he opened the envelope on the table. A gun and a bundle of dollars was in it. He smiled wryly at his bouncers and closed the envelope.

He had succeeded in sending Ray's girlfriend out of the country. He despised that girl and wanted only what he wanted for his son. He had his reasons.

Ray drove out in his Bentley and left the house. He had no place in mind, he just kept driving speedily on the road. Ray was trying to build a relationship with Disha , the young lady he met in a clubhouse. He wasn't the kind of man that indulged in relationships or love affairs, but he had decided to try it out with Disha. He wanted to marry her secretly and run away with her, from his father. Ray hated everything that had to do with the Mafia or being the Mafia heir, not even after it took the life of the first woman he had ever loved!

Thinking of that, a feeling of both grief and anger surged up his spine. He immediately reversed his car and headed to his hotel.

Lorna's POV-

I packed up some sheets, duvets and blankets into the bag. Those were new stuff that we hadn't used and my mom had decided to sell them all for a million dollars. They were really worth it. I was glad that I was helping my mom in selling our properties just to repay Mr Draco.

It's been four days since I joined her and in total, we've made nine million and three hundred thousand dollars. This day was another day to sell again. A particular hotel caretaker had reached out to Mom that they needed new sheets, duvets and blankets to replace the old ones on all the bedrooms in the hotel. My mom had advertised a little that she wanted to sell these things and surprisingly, this big hotel reached out a day before and had sent the complete money to my mother.

My job was to simply deliver the items to the hotel, since my mom was going to sell some jewelry to a customer in Atlanta. Evening was drawing close and it seemed like it was about to rain. I hurried off to the hotel in a taxi .

The hotel was massive as I stared around. Time was already ticking and I couldn't find the caretaker. Mom had given me her digits and I kept calling, but she didn't pick.

Soon, she met me outside and apologized for keeping me waiting. We entered inside and she began to check if everything was complete and of good quality. I watched her keenly as she nodded her head in approval. We were in a large room, which she said was the largest bedroom. Only rich and wealthy people can actually afford it, I thought to myself. The hotel started sounding busy, it was getting late and this is the time when hotel users patronized the place.

"Miss, I believe I should get going, " I said to her. I couldn't just stay there, it was getting late and in fact, it had started drizzling.

"Oh dear, sorry for keeping you waiting once again. Could you please help me with changing the old sheet to this new one? I'll get you an umbrella soon " she asked politely.

I agreed. After all, it was still drizzling and I was sure it wouldn't start raining much before I finished. The caretaker, Miss Gwen, left and I pulled the old sheets out. I kept it in the wardrobe there and spread the new sheets on the bed.

Just as I was arranging it neatly, the door swung open.

  • Betrothed to the Mafia Heir    Chapter 095

Lorna's POV >>>Ray's last words kept ringing in my ear and suddenly made me restless. Maybe I could have just allowed him have his way in the closet, and maybe his mind would have drifted from the discussion he'd planned for the both of us. Deep down, I really wanted us to be so open to each other. I want to know my husband, to know other aspects of him apart from the ‘always-annoyed, broody, scary and sex-driven ‘ part of him. I want to know more than what Ms Helen had told me before she died. But then, that would require my own honesty and this was going to turn on me. He might find out my mother was staying with Don Juan. He could finally believe that I was involved in his near-death experience during his Mafia initiation party. Ray always sees through my lies and it wouldn't take long before he discovers my lying ass if we start talking. “Lorna, breathe. Calm down, okay? He can't find out now, he won't “. I muttered to myself, pressing my hands on my chest while pacing

  • Betrothed to the Mafia Heir    Chapter 094

Ray drove through the not-so-quiet streets of Seattle in his Cadillac , his eyes occasionally moving to the side mirror. Two black SUVs followed closely behind him. His men. The meeting place had been chosen by the new Pakhan himself—a private establishment almost at the outskirts of the city. He chose the place, believing it was a neutral ground and perfect for where two different leaders could meet , none of them knowing what could be the conclusion of the gathering. Ray almost found the idea amusing. There was no such thing as neutral ground in Seattle. The City Council's headquarters was here, Its businesses stretched across the city, its connections ran through all government offices, and its men knew the streets better than anyone else. The Russians could choose any building they wanted.Seattle would still be his territory and he would always call the shots. Ray slowed down as the private entrance of the establishment came into view. His men followed him into th

Ray drove back home from the gallery. He didn't even spend much time there before he got a call from the new Bratva leader. They scheduled an urgent meeting to discuss a new alliance and a deal with the Russians. His father had sealed a certain arm deal with them before, but not with this new leader. The both groups had a change of rulership and there was need for a change of rules and deals. He got back and met his father smoking and staring at nothing in particular. Their own relationship was already so strained that he didn't even bother to ask why the old man looked that way in the afternoon. He scoffed a bit as he quickly strode into the elevator. He needed to get some papers needed for such an urgent meeting from his room. As soon as the elevator opened, revealing his own chambers , he walked to his door and opened it. Looking around , Lorna wasn't there until he paid attention to some water-bubble noise coming from the bathroom. His stiff shoulders dropp

  • Betrothed to the Mafia Heir    Chapter 092

Lorna's POV The message stared right back at me as I did too. For the first time in our friendship, Ava was the venting one at this point. She wasn’t the type to complain or talk about her issues no matter how I try to get them out of her. Ava was the emotional pillar in our friendship, it's always as if she never gets upset or maybe I barely annoyed her. But today's text from her was unexpected and it doubled the guilt I felt when I yelled at her in class. It was a long text, seemed like something she forced herself to type in annoyance. I couldn't even read it all, I felt her colliding emotions in the message - from shock, to anger, to sadness, to anger again, to a bit of concern, to reassurance and then to making sure I felt really guilty and yes, I did. She focused her anger on that word—”read the room” and I understood how that sounded for someone that genuinely cared about me. “God! What have I done? How am I gonna fix this right now?” I muttered to myself st

  • Betrothed to the Mafia Heir    Chapter 091

Ray couldn't believe it at first. What beef does a university student have with him? He thought to himself. He knew he'd become more famous since he took over the City Council. Enemies were bound to be against him, he was sure of that, but a student..? He drove faster to the Washington State General station and within minutes, he got there. Lucky enough, he didn't come with any entourage. Just him, and his Range Rover. “That was fast, Mr Ray!” Superintendent Dan jerked up from his seat as soon as Ray walked into his office. His voice laced with surprise and a surge of laughter. “Please..” the Chief of Police gestured towards the leather chair and added “have a seat”. Ray didn't utter a word as he sat rigidly on the seat , watching as the man sat down too. He glanced at the office, taking notes of the portraits of government officials on the wall. His eyes settled on a painting that was placed carefully on the bottom of the wall. He knew that art work because

Dave muffled against the tape on his mouth,..the inaudible sounds were laced with terror and fear as he widened his eyes, gazing at his brother who stood with a satisfied smirk on his face. He moved his arms relentlessly despite his hands being tied behind, wanting to escape the sight he'd already beheld. Jeremy walked towards Sergeant Samantha's corpse and skillfully pulled out the dagger buried in her back. He searched around her body for any mobile device because he never trusted that she was in this revenge path alone. Took her pistol , her hidden badge and her cellphone. “Relax Dave. I'm gonna untie you soon and we'll get out of here. Just need to …uhh..check .., you know, tie up any loose ends that'll point this back to me”. His words broke unfocused as he glanced through her phone, checking tracking apps and other stuff. Then, he broke the phone into two, threw the two halves on the floor and smashed it into pieces under his boot . Next, he took out a colored
