MasukThe earth seemed to be at a pause from either rotating or revolving at this point to me . I was trying to really understand why Uncle Draco would want me instead of his money.
"He wants to marry you off to his son. " my mom continued as she sniffed. "He lent us the money when you were still two years of age. You were sick then and as a friend he was , he gave us the money while betrothing you to his son. As family friends then, we agreed. But not now...not anymore.." she paused sniffing. Now, this is getting understandable. I recalled that he and my dad were pretty much close until before my dad died. My dad had mentioned to me, in his words "that he and Uncle Draco ain't in the same category of business anymore " . I'd asked him about uncle Draco and why he suddenly stopped visiting us after my dad got demoted , then he said those words. I didn't understand those words, but all I knew was that Mr Draco now acted mean and looked dangerous. I got snapped out of my train of thoughts when my mom drew me to an embrace. I could feel a woman trying to be so strong and not to surrender, yet the reason for being strong is her weakness as well. I could feel a woman determined to achieve the impossible, although it will be difficult. She cried out in my arms as though she felt her fight would be of no use, she cried as if she already knew that I would be taken from her, she cried as though this would be our last long embrace. Hell no! I raised her chin and looked at her intently "Mom, I won't leave you and I'm ready to do anything for us to repay Mr Draco his fifty-five million dollars....even if it means not catching sleep for a week, mom" I assured her . ---------- Ray barged into the living room, panting heavily in anger. He stared around and caught the sight of his father, lighting up a cigarette as usual. A fat envelope was on the large table there. "What have you done, Dad?" he asked fuming. But the man kept smoking, puffing smoke at Ray's face. His three bouncers were there, anxiously waiting for their boss to give a command, so they would bundle Ray out of his presence. "Draco!" he yelled his father's name and just before two seconds could pass by, Draco gave him a punch across his face. His bouncers wanted to actually do that, but he declined them and punched Ray within a second. "This guts, because of a lady? Ray, you dare not disrespect me in my house. I'm not just your father, but also the Lord of the most powerful mafia in this country. I have separated you both and you only do my bidding , else you would cease from being the mafia heir" Ray gnash his teeth and if not for these bouncers, his father was just a frail man that keeps trying to be so strong. Looking at his father in the eyes while fuming, he said; "I do what I want to do in my personal life. And to hell with your godforsaken mafia...you should know I'm barely interested in that ". He stormed out of the living room. Draco simply let out a dry laugh, as he opened the envelope on the table. A gun and a bundle of dollars was in it. He smiled wryly at his bouncers and closed the envelope. He had succeeded in sending Ray's girlfriend out of the country. He despised that girl and wanted only what he wanted for his son. He had his reasons. Ray drove out in his Bentley and left the house. He had no place in mind, he just kept driving speedily on the road. Ray was trying to build a relationship with Disha , the young lady he met in a clubhouse. He wasn't the kind of man that indulged in relationships or love affairs, but he had decided to try it out with Disha. He wanted to marry her secretly and run away with her, from his father. Ray hated everything that had to do with the Mafia or being the Mafia heir, not even after it took the life of the first woman he had ever loved! Thinking of that, a feeling of both grief and anger surged up his spine. He immediately reversed his car and headed to his hotel. Lorna's POV- I packed up some sheets, duvets and blankets into the bag. Those were new stuff that we hadn't used and my mom had decided to sell them all for a million dollars. They were really worth it. I was glad that I was helping my mom in selling our properties just to repay Mr Draco. It's been four days since I joined her and in total, we've made nine million and three hundred thousand dollars. This day was another day to sell again. A particular hotel caretaker had reached out to Mom that they needed new sheets, duvets and blankets to replace the old ones on all the bedrooms in the hotel. My mom had advertised a little that she wanted to sell these things and surprisingly, this big hotel reached out a day before and had sent the complete money to my mother. My job was to simply deliver the items to the hotel, since my mom was going to sell some jewelry to a customer in Atlanta. Evening was drawing close and it seemed like it was about to rain. I hurried off to the hotel in a taxi . The hotel was massive as I stared around. Time was already ticking and I couldn't find the caretaker. Mom had given me her digits and I kept calling, but she didn't pick. Soon, she met me outside and apologized for keeping me waiting. We entered inside and she began to check if everything was complete and of good quality. I watched her keenly as she nodded her head in approval. We were in a large room, which she said was the largest bedroom. Only rich and wealthy people can actually afford it, I thought to myself. The hotel started sounding busy, it was getting late and this is the time when hotel users patronized the place. "Miss, I believe I should get going, " I said to her. I couldn't just stay there, it was getting late and in fact, it had started drizzling. "Oh dear, sorry for keeping you waiting once again. Could you please help me with changing the old sheet to this new one? I'll get you an umbrella soon " she asked politely. I agreed. After all, it was still drizzling and I was sure it wouldn't start raining much before I finished. The caretaker, Miss Gwen, left and I pulled the old sheets out. I kept it in the wardrobe there and spread the new sheets on the bed. Just as I was arranging it neatly, the door swung open.Lorna's POV ~I left the spot and went back to class. I already knew that some people would see my name and mock me for it. Yes, because why's the Mafia heir’s wife too broke that she hasn't completed her full tuition fees? My mind flashed back to my mother. Our relationship recently had been on a thin lose thread and what's probably still holding it was the fact that she birthed me. My life was this way because of her and my late dad. Now I'm the one dealing with it all alone, getting involved in dangerous games and married to a man that now rules a high crime organisation . She had probably forgotten that I still owed the school and who knows how her relationship with Don Juan is now. Does she even know the man is now threatening me because I couldn't kill Ray? Is she still staying with him? These thoughts rampaged my head as I walked back to the class not knowing when I bumped into someone. A hard hand pushed me back in a forceful way that I almost f
Jeremy wasn't himself throughout that day. He needed to see Dave face-to-face as he wasn't picking his calls. He'd texted him so many times yet he got no response. He couldn't imagine how Lorna must have said whatever she said to Dave. How did she even find out that was his brother? The question bothered him so much and he knew that he needed to find out how the conversation played out. He'd concluded on how he would ask Don Draco for a 2-day permit. Just as he kept pacing around in his room and wallowing in his thoughts , his phone buzzed of notification and he quickly opened it thinking Dave had responded to one of his texts only to notice the message was from Don Juan; “You're going to lure that shitty heir to my city. I have already planned it out. Call me later for more details “. He sighed. Is this envy, revenge or is this man obsessed with seeing Ray dead? Jeremy wondered. He'd gotten into a feud with his only family because of his Mafia activities and yet, he'
The staff of the Art industry scattered all over the premises. They all seemed disorganised and gathered in groups at different spots. Some security personnel were outside the gate with arms whilst inside the building were the Seattle police officers accompanied by the Division Commander. Tension gripped everyone that morning when the Commander of the Seattle state police trooped into the premises with some police officers requesting to see the CEO, Ray. “He's not available “ . Valerie had said to the Commander. Others were uncertain and felt scared to speak to the officers but Valerie had been in this kind of situation so many times especially with the fact that her dad is part of the Mafia. “Not available or not around?” The middle aged man quizzed, stealing a glance at the watch on his wrist. “A combination of both “. She boldly responded with a wry smile. Her courage was unwavering like she had nothing to hide but the Commander had heard of Ray Wyatt . “Officers
Lorna's POV:I had learnt to lie to Ray with confidence, not that I loved it, but the truth would cost me a lot. I thought he wouldn't believe me as usual, but this act paid off. I've got lectures today by noon so I wasn't rushing. I was in love with Ray already, but his ability to trust was gone and being in a relationship like marriage requires that. The way he questioned everything was getting tiring. I knew I had done a lot to betray him, but I was trying to right my wrongs. Even on days that I would speak the truth, he wouldn't believe me. I recalled those times and my countenance fell. Next thing I heard was “Kiss me”. I felt a bit flustered that he even had to ask. “No” I responded childishly, almost immediately and turned my face away. “Why?” He muttered close to my ear , I still faced the closet area. “Nothing “. I shrugged and rolled my eyes. “Perhaps you should say please “. I was making a joke, trying to mess with him playfully like most c
Dave's mind was completely occupied throughout the night. His thoughts kept wondering from place to place, filled with questions like; “Why didn't he say he was working with the Mafia?, why did he hide it from me? What else do I not know about my own blood brother? So he's been coming here to pick and drop Lorna and yet he wouldn't think of his brother?” The thoughts were so much that his head started to hurt at some point and he was filled with so much anger against his brother. He felt betrayed….sidelined! To think that Lorna, his one time crush is now his brother's madam was sickening! And as he thought about it all , everything started making sense to him. No wonder Jeremy strongly advised him to leave Lorna alone and not to get involved in Ray Wyatts's business. He'd decided not to go to school the next day and didn't even know when he eventually slept off. Meanwhile, Don Juan had gotten a memo from Jeremy that Lorna didn't use the poison. The young man had keenly
The aroma of simmering stew clung to the kitchen walls as Valerie stirred the pot gently. Her hair was pinned up neatly, her lips glossed, her dress fitted like she was going on a date, just beneath the apron. The other maid servants had allowed her into the kitchen only for courtesy's sake even when most of them disliked her. She had taken the day off work, telling herself it was a perfect excuse to “surprise” him. A perfect little lunch, a glass of wine, maybe even time alone before the others returned. Her smile flickered as she imagined his face, the way it should’ve softened when he saw her waiting. She was about to add some scented herbs into the stew when the sound of heavy footsteps behind her cut through her fantasy. When she turned, her heart skipped. It wasn’t Ray.It was Don Draco. He stood at the entryway, cold eyes scanning her from head to toe. For the first time, Valerie’s confident mask cracked.“Valerie?” His voice was sharp, disbelieving. “What are you doing here…
The morning came with a strange kind of quietness. It wasn’t peaceful , it was heavy and dense with the residue of chaos. Sunlight filtered through the massive windows of the villa, but no warmth came with it. The grand home of Don Draco felt like a battlefield recovering from an invisible war.A
I inhaled sharply immediately she said that. There was indeed more to know and the courage to continue the inquiry intensified. For all I knew, she must answer the question. I just needed one response. "What do you mean by that? I just want to know who Katherine is, that's all". The volum
I exhaled sharply and glared back at her. Only she knew what she was trying to imply, but I refused to mind her words. She unlocked the door immediately and ran downstairs. I waited for some time, even though the chaos seemed to have faded. I couldn't hear any more gunshots, but the v
Ray paused while eating immediately Draco said Valerie was going to come. I wondered who the lady was. It seemed Draco knew her or perhaps, she was part of the mafia. I learnt that ladies do join the Mafia. Maybe she was part of a sub-gang under the City Council. But, it wasn't so."Is she me
