"Mom, why do you keep selling most of what we've got here? I understand that things aren't really smooth right now, but we've been good. Why are you suddenly selling most of our stuff? Yesterday was our expensive chaise and now our kitchen stuff, including our oven." I didn't even want to mention that she sold my dad's car last week. If she's so worried about our weekly feeding and all that, the money from the sale of my dad's car should already be enough! This whole act was driving me crazy as our once cosy and furnished detached apartment turned scanty in the space of two weeks. "Honey, things are getting worse by the day. We need money to feed and clothe ourselves more than we need these properties" my mom said after about a minute of snubbing me. I won't believe these tales anymore. The money she's gotten from most properties that she'd sold are enough to take care of our feeding and clothing for like three months! And meanwhile, she's been keeping that money in a big bag like it's not even for us. Then, a question struck me . I decided to ask. "Mom, tell me the truth. I'm your daughter. " She quivered at my statement, like she's anxious to hear my next lines. "Are you owing anyone? You don't act like you're selling these properties for our needs. You seem to be selling them because you're owing someone a huge amount of money. Tell me, mom. Do you owe anybody?" I finally let it out. I looked at my mom, but her countenance had fallen as if to truly respond that she's indeed owing someone. And all of a sudden , her countenance changed again into a kind I can't explain. "Yes. I'm owing myself....my health"... --------------- My name is Lorna and let's say, this is the beginning of my story. A story of how i became a student-wife, a heroine and a mother. I was nineteen years old here and remained the only child of my parents. This is an autobiography rather, entailing my life, my struggles and epic moments, my victory and losses and more . I finished high school at 18 and entered an only science university at 19. I lived with my parents at down Las Vegas and had my high school education there. But my university days......pheww!, I'll say that was when tragic events began happening in my life. I gained admission into studying Biology as a course for five years in a university at a small island before the city of Seattle. It was an only science university, not actually renowned and quite cheap for merger health courses like what i actually studied. I mean, you wouldn't find courses like Pharmacy or Surgery there, but you would see the likes of Biology, physical sciences, Weather forscience , Chemistry and stuffs like that. I had wanted to study Gynaecology , but it was gonna require getting admission into a big uni that my mother could clearly not afford. Speaking of that, we were quite rich and very comfortable for some time. However, towards the end of my high school, my dad's finances started shaking. He was going bankrupt and his gold business wasn't doing well anymore. My mom had to keep sustaining my father in such a way that no one noticed my dad wasn't so rich anymore. My mom was an assistant in a big company then and she also sold hairs, so despite my dad's bankruptcy, we were still rich. But then, my dad died when i graduated from high school at 18. Everything changed ! The shock of it made my mom lose her company job and the money she was making from her hair business still sustained us...it was just the both of us. The only difference was that the period even when my dad was going bankrupt seemed better than now that my mom could take care of us with just her hair business. She made sure i got admission into the University. My mom was always there for me. I literally didn't have friends as i entered the university and that was clearly because my high school friends all got admission into universities like Harvard and the likes of it. My mom was my only family, my number one friend, safe space.....name it! I just couldn't get away from her sight. We were still okay until when i entered the second level. The next bad thing that occurred was the failure of my mom's hair business. She was gradually getting into debt and while she was trying to pay off suppliers, the business kept going down. Yet, we were still a bit fine. We weren't begging for food or paying rent because we lived in my dad's house. But here, this moment....my mom was beginning to sell out things, properties and whatnot, and it was just driving me crazy coz we haven't gotten that poor yet that we have to.start selling things. She just started giving reasons....back to the earlier story..<<<<<Ray drove back home from the gallery. He didn't even spend much time there before he got a call from the new Bratva leader. They scheduled an urgent meeting to discuss a new alliance and a deal with the Russians. His father had sealed a certain arm deal with them before, but not with this new leader. The both groups had a change of rulership and there was need for a change of rules and deals. He got back and met his father smoking and staring at nothing in particular. Their own relationship was already so strained that he didn't even bother to ask why the old man looked that way in the afternoon. He scoffed a bit as he quickly strode into the elevator. He needed to get some papers needed for such an urgent meeting from his room. As soon as the elevator opened, revealing his own chambers , he walked to his door and opened it. Looking around , Lorna wasn't there until he paid attention to some water-bubble noise coming from the bathroom. His stiff shoulders dropp
Lorna's POV The message stared right back at me as I did too. For the first time in our friendship, Ava was the venting one at this point. She wasn’t the type to complain or talk about her issues no matter how I try to get them out of her. Ava was the emotional pillar in our friendship, it's always as if she never gets upset or maybe I barely annoyed her. But today's text from her was unexpected and it doubled the guilt I felt when I yelled at her in class. It was a long text, seemed like something she forced herself to type in annoyance. I couldn't even read it all, I felt her colliding emotions in the message - from shock, to anger, to sadness, to anger again, to a bit of concern, to reassurance and then to making sure I felt really guilty and yes, I did. She focused her anger on that word—”read the room” and I understood how that sounded for someone that genuinely cared about me. “God! What have I done? How am I gonna fix this right now?” I muttered to myself st
Ray couldn't believe it at first. What beef does a university student have with him? He thought to himself. He knew he'd become more famous since he took over the City Council. Enemies were bound to be against him, he was sure of that, but a student..? He drove faster to the Washington State General station and within minutes, he got there. Lucky enough, he didn't come with any entourage. Just him, and his Range Rover. “That was fast, Mr Ray!” Superintendent Dan jerked up from his seat as soon as Ray walked into his office. His voice laced with surprise and a surge of laughter. “Please..” the Chief of Police gestured towards the leather chair and added “have a seat”. Ray didn't utter a word as he sat rigidly on the seat , watching as the man sat down too. He glanced at the office, taking notes of the portraits of government officials on the wall. His eyes settled on a painting that was placed carefully on the bottom of the wall. He knew that art work because
Dave muffled against the tape on his mouth,..the inaudible sounds were laced with terror and fear as he widened his eyes, gazing at his brother who stood with a satisfied smirk on his face. He moved his arms relentlessly despite his hands being tied behind, wanting to escape the sight he'd already beheld. Jeremy walked towards Sergeant Samantha's corpse and skillfully pulled out the dagger buried in her back. He searched around her body for any mobile device because he never trusted that she was in this revenge path alone. Took her pistol , her hidden badge and her cellphone. “Relax Dave. I'm gonna untie you soon and we'll get out of here. Just need to …uhh..check .., you know, tie up any loose ends that'll point this back to me”. His words broke unfocused as he glanced through her phone, checking tracking apps and other stuff. Then, he broke the phone into two, threw the two halves on the floor and smashed it into pieces under his boot . Next, he took out a colored
Draco finished up with his meetings quite fast and got back home before his son, Jeremy and Lorna. He met Alex , the driver that was supposed to be with Jeremy and Lorna. The guy was writhing in pains while the chef cook attended to him. “What's going on here? Aren't you supposed to be
Ava nudged at me, indirectly asking me to deny it. But , only Owen knew how he got that information and denying it outrightly, would even raise more curiosity. I watched Dave's brows furrowed as he clenched his fist tightly and then, unclenching it the moment I decided to talk. I
(Lorna's POV)Ray leaned lazily against the doorframe, one brow arched, his low-slung towel around his hips exposing the sharp dip of his v-line and that lean, dangerous body .My breath caught immediately when he made that statement. The first thought that actually came to my mind was why was
Owen’s stare registered in my head , it was a dangerous watch-your-back look. Now , I believed everyone already knew who my husband was. The ones who thought it was all fake had confirmed it. Some of them were beginning to dread me. I saw this one coming and that was why I didn't want to reveal
