View MoreI watched my mom bring out the fancy utensils we had in the kitchen. She was wrapping them up, both the used ones and the brand new ones, all for sale.
"Mom, why do you keep selling most of what we've got here? I understand that things aren't really smooth right now, but we've been good. Why are you suddenly selling most of our stuff? Yesterday was our expensive chaise and now our kitchen stuff, including our oven." I didn't even want to mention that she sold my dad's car last week. If she's so worried about our weekly feeding and all that, the money from the sale of my dad's car should already be enough! This whole act was driving me crazy as our once cosy and furnished detached apartment turned scanty in the space of two weeks. "Honey, things are getting worse by the day. We need money to feed and clothe ourselves more than we need these properties" my mom said after about a minute of snubbing me. I won't believe these tales anymore. The money she's gotten from most properties that she'd sold are enough to take care of our feeding and clothing for like three months! And meanwhile, she's been keeping that money in a big bag like it's not even for us. Then, a question struck me . I decided to ask. "Mom, tell me the truth. I'm your daughter. " She quivered at my statement, like she's anxious to hear my next lines. "Are you owing anyone? You don't act like you're selling these properties for our needs. You seem to be selling them because you're owing someone a huge amount of money. Tell me, mom. Do you owe anybody?" I finally let it out. I looked at my mom, but her countenance had fallen as if to truly respond that she's indeed owing someone. And all of a sudden , her countenance changed again into a kind I can't explain. "Yes. I'm owing myself....my health"... --------------- My name is Lorna and let's say, this is the beginning of my story. A story of how i became a student-wife, a heroine and a mother. I was nineteen years old here and remained the only child of my parents. This is an autobiography rather, entailing my life, my struggles and epic moments, my victory and losses and more . I finished high school at 18 and entered an only science university at 19. I lived with my parents at down Las Vegas and had my high school education there. But my university days......pheww!, I'll say that was when tragic events began happening in my life. I gained admission into studying Biology as a course for five years in a university at a small island before the city of Seattle. It was an only science university, not actually renowned and quite cheap for merger health courses like what i actually studied. I mean, you wouldn't find courses like Pharmacy or Surgery there, but you would see the likes of Biology, physical sciences, Weather forscience , Chemistry and stuffs like that. I had wanted to study Gynaecology , but it was gonna require getting admission into a big uni that my mother could clearly not afford. Speaking of that, we were quite rich and very comfortable for some time. However, towards the end of my high school, my dad's finances started shaking. He was going bankrupt and his gold business wasn't doing well anymore. My mom had to keep sustaining my father in such a way that no one noticed my dad wasn't so rich anymore. My mom was an assistant in a big company then and she also sold hairs, so despite my dad's bankruptcy, we were still rich. But then, my dad died when i graduated from high school at 18. Everything changed ! The shock of it made my mom lose her company job and the money she was making from her hair business still sustained us...it was just the both of us. The only difference was that the period even when my dad was going bankrupt seemed better than now that my mom could take care of us with just her hair business. She made sure i got admission into the University. My mom was always there for me. I literally didn't have friends as i entered the university and that was clearly because my high school friends all got admission into universities like Harvard and the likes of it. My mom was my only family, my number one friend, safe space.....name it! I just couldn't get away from her sight. We were still okay until when i entered the second level. The next bad thing that occurred was the failure of my mom's hair business. She was gradually getting into debt and while she was trying to pay off suppliers, the business kept going down. Yet, we were still a bit fine. We weren't begging for food or paying rent because we lived in my dad's house. But here, this moment....my mom was beginning to sell out things, properties and whatnot, and it was just driving me crazy coz we haven't gotten that poor yet that we have to.start selling things. She just started giving reasons....back to the earlier story..<<<<<Lorna's POV:I had learnt to lie to Ray with confidence, not that I loved it, but the truth would cost me a lot. I thought he wouldn't believe me as usual, but this act paid off. I've got lectures today by noon so I wasn't rushing. I was in love with Ray already, but his ability to trust was gone and being in a relationship like marriage requires that. The way he questioned everything was getting tiring. I knew I had done a lot to betray him, but I was trying to right my wrongs. Even on days that I would speak the truth, he wouldn't believe me. I recalled those times and my countenance fell. Next thing I heard was “Kiss me”. I felt a bit flustered that he even had to ask. “No” I responded childishly, almost immediately and turned my face away. “Why?” He muttered close to my ear , I still faced the closet area. “Nothing “. I shrugged and rolled my eyes. “Perhaps you should say please “. I was making a joke, trying to mess with him playfully like most c
Dave's mind was completely occupied throughout the night. His thoughts kept wondering from place to place, filled with questions like; “Why didn't he say he was working with the Mafia?, why did he hide it from me? What else do I not know about my own blood brother? So he's been coming here to pick and drop Lorna and yet he wouldn't think of his brother?” The thoughts were so much that his head started to hurt at some point and he was filled with so much anger against his brother. He felt betrayed….sidelined! To think that Lorna, his one time crush is now his brother's madam was sickening! And as he thought about it all , everything started making sense to him. No wonder Jeremy strongly advised him to leave Lorna alone and not to get involved in Ray Wyatts's business. He'd decided not to go to school the next day and didn't even know when he eventually slept off. Meanwhile, Don Juan had gotten a memo from Jeremy that Lorna didn't use the poison. The young man had keenly
The aroma of simmering stew clung to the kitchen walls as Valerie stirred the pot gently. Her hair was pinned up neatly, her lips glossed, her dress fitted like she was going on a date, just beneath the apron. The other maid servants had allowed her into the kitchen only for courtesy's sake even when most of them disliked her. She had taken the day off work, telling herself it was a perfect excuse to “surprise” him. A perfect little lunch, a glass of wine, maybe even time alone before the others returned. Her smile flickered as she imagined his face, the way it should’ve softened when he saw her waiting. She was about to add some scented herbs into the stew when the sound of heavy footsteps behind her cut through her fantasy. When she turned, her heart skipped. It wasn’t Ray.It was Don Draco. He stood at the entryway, cold eyes scanning her from head to toe. For the first time, Valerie’s confident mask cracked.“Valerie?” His voice was sharp, disbelieving. “What are you doing here…
I got home around 1pm and realised no one was home except for the maid servants and two of Draco's men, Jeremy and Frank. It was surprising that Frank was home because I had since realised since I came into this family, that he was Draco's right hand man. So it was rather odd that he didn't follow Draco to wherever he went to. “Where's Ray?” I asked him first. “Out for an emergency meeting with the City Council “. He replied subtly. I could see Jeremy side eyeing me consciously, probably quizzing me with those stares. I walked out of there at once and while I passed the kitchen, I noticed a lady wearing an apron and so focused on her cooking. Her back was facing the entry door. “Helloo” I made my presence noticeable at least. And then when she turned, I realized it was Valerie. The shock on my face! She laughed out, a mockery laughter seeing the shock on my face as my lips remained wide open. “Surprised?” She grinned wickedly. “I honestly love that shocking
Draco reopened the hotel, Ray's hotel, which was temporarily closed down until he married Lorna. "This is your only property that you can effectively use for now. The art company and the National garage under your name will remain on hold for now " Draco blatantly stated, handing over the relea
"Eavesdropping? Nahh..I don't do that, mistress " He replied, grinning a bit. I didn't believe him. "So , what then are you doing up here, along the bedroom corridor of my husband and I?" Jeremy chuckled, and that was when I realized I'd called Ray "my husband ". Perhaps, it didn't sound we
Ray wasn't shocked a bit. He was used to these threats and text messages from anonymous numbers that one could never track. Dropping his phone, he postponed his thinking to the next day. He was already distracted and besides, the visit to the godfather wasn't so urgent. He packed the pieces of
Since the class had unexpectedly ended, I still had up to forty-five minutes to spare in school. So I decided to tell Ava everything. "Ava, something happened two days ago and I wanna tell you about it " I started. "Aiit best, shoot. I'm listening " she turned towards me. We were sitting
