Chapter 236

Author: River Fish
Alexandra grabbed a pillow and threw it at Simon's face. He laughed and swatted it away before thoughtfully picking it up and gently tossing it back to her. He hummed a tune as he headed into the bathroom, making no effort to hide how bratty and insufferable he was.

Alexandra dove headfirst into the soft blanket, which already carried Simon's scent. His rough edges came from his personality—the way he talked and acted, and the vibe he gave off. His looks and demeanor were just like Evan's, who practically had "I'm dating three people at once" written all over his face.

Although Simon didn't dress as sophisticatedly as Evan did, he was still good-looking and chic. For instance, his cologne smelled pretty good.

Alexandra waited for over ten minutes before Simon finally finished showering and came out. She avoided eye contact with him as she took her turn in the bathroom. She deliberately spent half an hour in there, banking on the idea that he'd be gone by the time she came out.

Phoebe really did look a lot like Melinda.Katherine didn't answer her question. Instead, she said, "I saw you announce your divorce on your social media and was worried, so I wanted to see how you were doing."Since she had backed down a little, Phoebe followed her lead. "I'm doing great."Katherine shifted to concern. "I know that Flynn's company is in trouble. Now that you and Connor are divorced, he can't help you. What's going to happen to Flynn's game?"Phoebe's expression suddenly darkened. "Are you doing this on purpose, Aunt Katherine?""What?""Connor is the one who told Malcolm to go after Flynn's company in the first place, yet you want me to ask Connor for help. Don't you think that's ridiculous?" Phoebe added, "And Malcolm is your stepson now. Bringing this up in front of me is like slapping me in the face. Don't tell me that you had no idea he was behind the whole mess."Katherine's expression turned frosty. "I'm concerned about you, Phoebe. Do you have to pick

  • Better Brother, Better Life   Chapter 239

Phoebe hung up. She no longer felt the old happiness she used to have when Katherine called; her expression stayed calm.Katherine's heart was with her new family now, but Phoebe figured she felt obliged to check in since her eldest niece had just gone through a divorce.Phoebe texted Flynn about it, but he didn't reply. He was someone who loved and hated fiercely—when he didn't like someone, he wouldn't play nice with them at all.Phoebe didn't turn Katherine down, though. Katherine wasn't like Connor, whom she could cut off from all ties. She still needed Katherine's help to take good care of Victoria. Blood relatives weren't the same as an ex-husband with whom one could stop dealing after a divorce.…At lunchtime, Phoebe went to the agreed restaurant. The place was lovely; many office workers went there for lunch.Katherine was already waiting at a table by the window. She looked up as Phoebe approached, and her dainty face lit up with a smile. "Flynn didn't come?"Phoebe sa

  • Better Brother, Better Life   Chapter 238

Jacqueline's heart hurt so much that she could barely breathe. When she spoke, it was with the obstinacy of someone who knew that she should accept her fate but simply couldn't. "I just can't accept it! Why doesn't Gideon like me?"Ian gave a small laugh. "Don't get trapped in that kind of obsession. Falling for someone has no logic or reason. Not liking someone is the same."Jacqueline wasn't stupid. She acknowledged Ian's words and understood that his refusal to help was his way of keeping her from getting hurt. But she was the one with the unrequited love, and Ian, as an outsider, could never truly understand her pain.Accepting the truth and letting go was impossibly hard. It felt like something she just couldn't do!Jacqueline set aside the idea of giving up on Gideon for the moment and said, "You still haven't told me who that woman is!"She could resign herself to not having Gideon, but only on one condition—if he didn't have eyes for her, then he couldn't have eyes for any

Ian looked at Jacqueline in puzzlement and solemnly asked, "What exactly did I need to tell you?"Jacqueline was only two years younger than he was. In her eyes, Ian had always been gentle, but his gentleness felt like a constant act of smoothing everything over. He seemed untouchable, without a single weakness.Because he never lost his temper, it was impossible to tell what he cared about. Just like now—Ian clearly knew what was going on, yet he refused to tell Jacqueline anything. She retorted, "You know full well that I like Gideon, Ian. I've liked him since we were kids. You're his friend, so why won't you help me out? Instead, you keep pushing me away. I honestly can't understand it."Ian said soothingly, "Gideon doesn't like you. If that's how he feels, it doesn't matter how much you adore him."Jacqueline was sick of hearing that, and her temper flared. "That's what you always say. Can't you at least let me try?"She couldn't wrap her head around it. She clearly needed he

  • Better Brother, Better Life   Chapter 235

Simon narrowed his eyes, amused by the fake smile on Alexandra's face. He pushed her onto the bed and pinned her down, leaning in closer as his grin turned wicked. "I know that saying that only pisses off men who really can't perform."He pressed his face against her ear, nibbling her earlobe as he whispered, "I'm very capable."Alexandra's body turned to jelly at his teasing, but her voice stayed steady. "Only women get to judge whether the man's technique is any good."Simon kissed her earlobe before moving to her neck. "Then tell me how exactly my performance was lacking last night."Alexandra was speechless.Simon didn't sit by idly while he talked. His lips moved from her neck to her cheek; his smile widened when he saw the impatience in her eyes. "Oh, so when you screamed yourself hoarse last night, it wasn't out of pleasure—but the opposite?"She didn't want him on top of her anymore. "Get off me.""You're so unreasonable. I'm breaking things down so seriously for you, bu
