Chapter 57

Author: River Fish
Gideon took the bag off the doorknob and closed the door. Even if Simon wanted to go after Phoebe, it was too late.

Noticing the brand logo on the shopping bag, Simon said, "Oh, right. I forgot to give that to you. Did you order that online?"

Gideon ignored him. He walked to the bar counter, picked up a pair of scissors, and cut open the packaging to reveal the cup inside.

The glass, which had been cut with diamond-like precision, caught the light and sparkled brilliantly. It looked like a star. The cup even had a name—"Polaris".

It wasn't anything extraordinary, but it was undeniably beautiful.

Simon was used to Gideon's silence. Fortunately, he was the chatty type, and he tossed out a wild guess. "It's not from Phoebe, is it? You were being all sneaky and in such a hurry to shut the door."

Gideon turned and placed "Polaris" on the display shelf. Including the pieces he'd chosen himself, there were already three items gracing the shelf that spanned the entire wall.

He pulled ou

  • Better Brother, Better Life   Chapter 290

Nothing turned out as Connor had expected. Everything had spiraled into surprises and a loss of control—so even he hadn't anticipated bringing Phoebe back to the villa. He had brought her back. But now what? They were divorced. What else could possibly happen? For a moment, Connor felt genuinely lost. He had no idea what he was doing. He could drag Gideon into this as an excuse—he didn't want to see him and Phoebe together, so he'd brought her home. That was a perfectly solid, believable reason. But with Phoebe in his arms, not struggling yet looking at him with nothing but disgust…It was only when he could truly sense her emotions that he realized that bringing her back had nothing to do with Gideon. He just wanted to see the old Phoebe again—the one without all these thorns, and who could speak to him calmly. He believed that his mood would settle if she did that. He wouldn't feel this restless and out of control. He didn't even dare hope she would soothe him anymore, but she

  • Better Brother, Better Life   Chapter 289

Even though Phoebe had lived there for three years, she had never felt any real warmth in that villa. She hated coming back. Even now, it made her feel upset. It wasn't that she hadn't moved on from the relationship; it was the lingering emotional residue, like post-traumatic stress disorder. Connor gripped her chin and forced her to meet his gaze, leaving her no room to look away. He studied her face and asked, "Do you hate this place that much?""Yes."His fingers tightened on her chin as a cold laugh escaped him. "But that's not what you were like before. Didn't you always wish that I would come home earlier?""If I were still the same as before, I wouldn't have divorced you," she said calmly.Connor's gaze darkened. He stared at her for a couple of seconds before shoving her face away, anger flashing in his eyes like a provoked beast.Just as he was about to explode, Laura came rushing out. She had been waiting for Connor, but she had seen Phoebe in the passenger seat inste

Connor pressed on. "Why don't I know that you collect cups?"Phoebe frowned. "Are you asking about my preferences?"He answered earnestly, "Yeah."For a split second, something heavy slammed into Phoebe's chest. It was a sour ache mixed with bitter irony. She used to dream of conversations like this with Connor. They would get to know each other little by little and discover what made the other person shine. Now, she thought about this conversation seriously. The topic itself interested her. She would happily chat away if it were with a friend. But with Connor, she lost all interest. It was all just noise to her."It's none of your business," she said shortly.Connor stared at her. "Is it for yourself, or did you get it as a gift for someone?"Phoebe looked into his eyes. "Does it matter? Does it make a difference whether I bought it for myself or for someone else?"Connor was trying his best to stay calm, but her refusal to give him a straight answer pushed him closer to the e

Phoebe's frown deepened. She asked, "Are you stalking me?"The cold disdain in her eyes cut Connor like a knife all over again. In the past, his sudden appearances would have delighted her. He had always seen joy sparkle in her eyes when she looked at him. That was why she had been so happy at every family gathering. He would play along as they pretended to be a normal couple. They would hold hands and share simple interactions in front of others.Back then, even those small crumbs of fake affection had been enough to keep Phoebe exalted for days. Now, he'd come specifically for her, yet there wasn't a trace of warmth or longing left in her eyes.Connor wasn't used to it at all, so much so that he felt like someone had stabbed a needle straight into his heart. The sharp ache calmed him down quite a bit. "I need to talk to you.""About what?" she asked coolly."Grandpa's birthday is in a month. He wants me to bring you.""We're divorced. Why does he still want me there?"Connor

Still, the fact that Gideon was buying flowers…In all the time Phoebe had known him, she had never seen him buy flowers. That was why she had jumped to conclusions. However, she remained calm and mentally prepared herself for different outcomes. Just as she finished that thought, Gideon walked back over, holding a bouquet.Phoebe rolled down the window when she saw him head toward her. With his sharp, captivating features and all-black outfit, the flowers clashed beautifully with the dark tones, forming a sophisticated, striking sight. The flower shop glowing behind him only amplified the scene, making the way he approached all the more enchanting."Hold these for me," he said, handing her the bouquet.Phoebe instantly realized that the flowers weren't for her. A quiet wave of relief washed over her, and she took the flowers. Gideon circled the hood and got to the driver's door. The moment he opened the door, he spotted Connor, who had finally caught up.He pretended as though he

  • Better Brother, Better Life   Chapter 285

Connor stepped on the gas pedal and shot after Phoebe's car. He recognized her horrible Land Rover. It was an off-road vehicle, so it stood out enough that he didn't lose her at first. But at that hour, traffic was heavy. He had already blown past several cars, but he had to slam on the brakes when a flood of vehicles merged onto the main road after a turn. That stop belatedly made him realize just how frantic he'd been. He'd been his usual self before laying eyes on Phoebe. He'd worked as normal and met his friends like always. But the second he had stepped out of the elevator, he had caught a glimpse of a familiar silhouette up ahead. Almost instantly, he had been sure that it was Phoebe. The moment he laid eyes on her, he lost all control. Memories flooded in—her icy indifference at the courthouse on the day of their divorce, the way she had hired male escorts, and the ever-present, taunting edge in her voice over the phone.Connor had truly believed that he wouldn't care about
