Beth waved to everyone as they exited the house through the glowing portal. Odo lingered, reaching out slowly—almost reverently—to touch the shimmering edge before it could close, trying to trace its exit path.

But just as Charlene stepped out on the other side, she felt it—an energy signature, subtle but familiar. Fate magic. Someone had tried to follow them.

Without hesitation, she turned and slammed her hand into the closing portal, scrambling the pathways mid-closure. Her instincts screamed one name. She reached into the spiritual tangle and yanked.

Before Seth could react, Charlene vanished. The portal snapped shut.

“Princess!” he called out, panic thick in his voice.

Meanwhile, deep inside Charlene’s mind’s eye, Odo found himself strapped to a chair in a void of darkness.

“What… what is this?” he muttered, blinking against the sudden beam of light that pierced the shadows and hit him in the face.

Charlene stepped out of the dark, cloaked in authority. Her voice was disguised—deep, cold.

“I asked you a question.”

“Who’s there? Show yourself!” Odo demanded, squinting.

Charlene kicked the chair, making him jolt. “Don’t play dumb.”

Odo’s temper flared. “Do you know who you’re messing with? I’ll have your head for this!”

She laughed, low and sharp. “No one knows you’re here… that’s the fun part.”

Odo growled. “You should keep your nose out of business that doesn’t concern you.”

“Are you with the Sect?” Charlene asked, circling him.

He didn’t answer.

“I’ll ask one more time. Then—”

“Then what?!” he barked. “What will you do to me?”

“I’ll end you,” she said, her tone dead serious.

Odo’s bravado faltered. “My son… and my granddaughter—they’re leaders in the Sect. They’ll vouch for me. They’ll make you free me!”

She flipped the chair, knocking him flat. Then she sat on the back of it, pressing it into his chest. He choked for air.

“You spy on them. You tried to track us. And now you want their help?” Charlene laughed bitterly. “Oh, Grandpa, you’re worse than a villain in a bedtime story.”

She released pressure just enough for him to breathe. He coughed and groaned, slowly pushing himself off the floor—free now.

Charlene saw it coming even before he moved. He unbuckled his belt and stepped behind her.

Without turning, she said coolly, “What are you gonna do with that belt?”

“Teach you a lesson,” he said, raising it to strike.

Charlene blinked—her movement swift. The belt missed. She spun and snapped her fingers, revealing herself fully in the dim light.

Odo froze. “Charlene? What is this?”

“I asked you a question,” she said, standing tall, feet apart, hands behind her back.

“You don’t disrespect your elders, little girl!”

“Disrespect? Who told you to stick your hand in that portal?”

Odo flinched. “How did you know—?”

“Oh, we’re playing that game?” Charlene paced the floor, frustration bleeding into sarcasm. “Let me guess… I’m too stupid? Too much of a half-breed to figure out you were trying to trace our location?”

Anger surged through her body like electricity. It crackled along her arms, forming luminous ropes of energy that snapped like whips. The sound echoed.

Odo stepped back, suddenly unsure. “Let me out. I’m your grandfather!”

“NOW you want to claim that title?” Her voice boomed through the chamber of her mind.

He shrank under the intensity. “I’m sorry. I let my curiosity get the best of me. I didn’t mean any harm. I care for you. I care for my son. You must know that…”

Clack. The energy chains dropped to the floor.

Charlene studied him—sweat gleaming on his forehead, fear written all over his face.

“Odo…” she said softly, her tone shifting. “I mean, Grandfather.” She blinked, and the lights went out.

Odo’s voice trembled in the dark. “Charlene! Stop this, young lady!”

Suddenly, she was inches from his face.

“You went too far.”

He stumbled back. “When I get out of here, you’re in so much trouble!”

“I’m not here for punishment,” Charlene said. “I’m here to teach you a lesson. You don’t get to treat people like dirt and think there are no consequences.”

She stepped closer. “I don’t trust you. Not yet. But who’s to say I’ll ever let you out?”

He looked around, defeated. “Where… where am I?”

“You’re in my mind’s eye,” she said. “You’re trapped here with me… until I say otherwise.”

“I don’t want to hurt you,” he said honestly.

“And I believe that, maybe,” she said. “But your actions? They say otherwise. I don’t know why you treated my dad the way you did when he was growing up. I’m not asking. But it ends now.”

Odo hung his head.

“You can’t keep doing this and still call yourself family,” Charlene continued. “So here’s what you’re going to do.”

She extended her hand.

“The hidden place stone. Around your neck. Give it to me. That’ll be a good start.”

Odo hesitated… then slowly reached up, broke the chain, and placed the stone in her hand.

But just as she closed her fingers around it, he lunged and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a rough but heartfelt hug. Then—with a quick move—he swatted her rear.

“Don’t ever lay a hand on me like that again, young lady!” he barked. “I may be old, but I’ve still got moves. I’ll give you a run for your money!”

Charlene burst into laughter, stunned. “You really are something else.”

He held her tight. “I’m sorry. I truly mean it.”

“I know,” she said softly. “I can feel it now, Grandfather.”

A warm light filled the space. She placed her hand on his neck, healing the wound she had caused. With a blink, she reopened the portal.

“Go home,” she said gently.

Odo stepped through.

Moments later, Charlene stepped back into the cave. Seth ran to her, his expression frantic.

“Princess!” he shouted. “What happened?”

Without a word, Charlene opened his hand and placed the hidden place stone into his palm, gently curling his fingers around it.

“We won’t be having any more problems with Odo… not anytime soon.”

  • Beyond Fate   early rising

Chapter: Early RisingThe morning air was still thick with dew when Seth and Charlene wrapped up their early workout. ReNew and Heth arrived shortly after, just in time for an unplanned mission—one that involved family and, hopefully, breakfast.“It’s really early,” Charlene grumbled, rubbing her arms. “The first orb is barely even in the sky.”As if on cue, a rooster crowed loudly in the distance.ReNew winced. “Are we seriously doing this? Should we be here? I mean… last time we just showed up, remember?” She leaned in closer. “Are we trying to get shot?”Seth chuckled, unbothered. “They’re not that bad, girls. This is a working farm—they’ve probably been up for hours.”“Doing what, exactly?” ReNew asked, eyeing the quiet barn suspiciously. The girls and Heth started strolling toward the house.“Where are you going?” Seth asked, confused.“To get breakfast, of course,” Charlene answered flatly, brows furrowed.“I said they’re working. On the farm,” Seth said, pointing toward the lar

  • Beyond Fate   she's not in the mood!

She wasn’t in the mood to talk. Not today. ReNew had stayed locked away in her room, silent and simmering. But Charlene? She showed up, just like she promised—ready to meet her dad.Seth was already waiting for her, seated at the edge of the glowing lagoon inside the cave. His shirt was off, revealing the tight muscle cords across his back, and he hummed softly while stretching, legs spread on the mat beneath him. He didn’t turn when she approached.“Join me,” he said simply, patting the mat beside him.Charlene sat down, unsure of what they were doing, but willing to follow. She tilted her head as she watched.“Do what I’m doing,” Seth said calmly. “Breathe slowly and steadily. Inhale deep… now exhale. Good. This helps oxygenate your muscles and prevents them from cramping.”She mirrored his movements, mimicking his slow stretches.“Stretching,” he continued, “isn't just about flexibility. It’s about control. Grace. Power. Exhale as you deepen into the stretch. Hold it for at least t

Seth looked at her with a storm of concern flashing across his face."CHARLENE, WHAT DID YOU DO?" he demanded. She froze, caught off guard by his tone. “I taught him a lesson. That’s all!” she said, a little too defensively.Seth’s eyes scanned her—sharp, observant. Then he noticed it. Her soul—ReNew—wasn’t with her. That might explain it. ReNew had been in the cave ever since they’d left his parents’ house.“Tell me you didn’t kill him!” Seth choked out, his voice cracking. He gripped the broken necklace in his hand like it was a lifeline. “Tell me you didn’t do something irreversible just to get this stone. Answer me, Princess. Please!”“Dad, seriously? The plan was to get them to give us the hidden place stones, remember?” Charlene replied. “So we could understand what he’s up to and what their return really means. And I did just that.”Seth looked like he’d aged ten years in a second. “I understand the assignment,” he said, “but Charlene—answer me, please.”She waved him off, tryi

Issa walked over to Charlene, his hands in his pockets, casual but hopeful."Is this seat taken?"ReNew, already lounging beside Charlene, patted the cushion next to her. "Nope. Have a seat!" She slid over, clearly trying to give them space. But Charlene wasn’t letting her escape that easily."ReNew, where are you going?" she hissed, grabbing her by the arm."I’m moving so your crush can sit down," ReNew said through a grin, whispering through her teeth. Her eyes practically screamed play it cool. Charlene narrowed hers in response but let her go.Issa chuckled softly and sat down, flashing his usual sunny smile. Charlene turned red.He seemed so relaxed, so cheerful. Could he have really forgiven her already?"A little birdie told me someone’s got a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks," Issa said.Charlene blinked. "That’s right..." She’d completely forgotten with everything going on. Her seventeenth birthday. Back on Earth, they never made a big deal out of it—no parties, no fri

“Will you all be staying for dinner?” Beth asked warmly, her eyes resting on Seth first, then drifting to each Fate who had entered her home. She smiled, radiating a rare joy, waiting patiently for their response.Charlene, donning a matching apron with her grandmother, stood beside her with a hopeful grin, bouncing slightly on her toes. She glanced from Seth to her grandma, silently pleading for the answer she wanted to hear. They all knew what she wanted—especially Seth.Charlene couldn’t contain herself any longer. She began tugging at her father’s sleeve with all the charm of a child trying to win a trip to the candy store. To Charlene, this moment was magical. To Seth, it was complicated. Beth was kind, gentle—but also passive. Her refusal to stand up to Odo had led to a childhood Seth would never forget… or forgive. Still, he wouldn’t bring up the past in front of everyone. He’d remain courteous, calm. Polite. Because that’s what was expected. But inside? Inside, he burned with

Seth and Odo continued to argue, oblivious to the silent audience gathering nearby. Destiny sat on a bale of hay just outside the red barn, her posture relaxed but her eyes sharp. She'd been there the whole time, watching. High above, two black crows swooped down, landing beside her. They shimmered as they touched the ground, transforming into Heth and ReNew in their humanoid forms."How long can they go at this?" ReNew asked, crossing her arms with a smirk."I guess until one of them runs out of steam," Heth said, not even flinching as a loud grunt echoed from inside."Or until they kill each other," Destiny added dryly. She shook her head. No one moved to stop the brawl—perhaps everyone agreed the two men needed to let this tension burn itself out.Suddenly, Seth lunged at his father. His fist flew toward Odo’s face, but the older man sidestepped just enough to avoid the brunt of the blow. He retaliated quickly with a punch to Seth’s ribs, knocking the wind out of him. • Beyond Fate   you are truly a disappointment

Heth and ReNew perched silently atop the red barn, cloaked in the form of two ominous black crows. The realm’s twilight skies gave their feathers a sleek, unnatural sheen. Both of their minds were tethered—interlocked with Seth and Charlene's thoughts. Every word spoken, every flicker of emotion, they absorbed in perfect synchronization.“It looks clear from up here,” ReNew murmured telepathically.Heth gave a sharp nod. “Too clear. Like a trap waiting to spring.”Farmland stretched as far as their enchanted eyes could see. Crops swayed softly in the wind. Chickens strutted freely, cows grazed lazily, a rooster crowed proudly from atop a wooden fence. Pigs wallowed in the mud while a pair of horses trotted playfully near a fenced boundary. Off in the distance, a still pond reflected the darkening sky, flanked by ducks and geese floating serenely.“This place looks like a postcard from Earth,” ReNew said, her voice laced with suspicion. “No Realm architecture. No energy walls. No float

  • Beyond Fate   everyone's on edge

Everyone who mattered was in the war.Destiny made a point to be dressed to impress—not out of vanity, but to remind everyone watching that she was still sovereign, still standing, still golden. She was the First Spear, born of sacrifice and fire, and tonight, she shone like a sun that refused to set. Her gown, woven from pure gold, hugged her figure like liquid light. The fabric danced with the flames of countless battles she’d survived. Her crown was not perched but intertwined with the thick waves of her dark black hair, blending regal poise with divine authority. Her sun-kissed skin glowed, as though the heavens themselves still clung to her presence. To her left stood Seth, wearing royal blue robes streaked with polished lines of gold, his expression resolute. To her right was Charlene, equally resplendent, matching his attire but adding her own fire to the air—an unspoken promise of youth, power, and mystery yet to unfold.Behind them, others stood at attention, all dressed with
