I stood still, frozen as Dean and I stared at each other.

But his eyes were not exactly focused and when they snapped shut again, I knew he was still high on whatever drugs he and Norio had abused last night.

I gripped the knife, my body still trembling, and walked back around to my side of the bed.

What had I almost done? Out of rage, I would have ruined the whole plan and put myself in even bigger trouble with Louise.

First, I have to get Dean started immediately on the Elixir, and then find a way to befriend Leonardo somehow. If he knew about the Rosetta he must be one of the few people chosen annually to go there and retrieve information.

But right now, the most urgent matter was correcting what Dean had just seen.

Although he was still high, I knew he would remember what he saw when he climbed down from that high. I had to distort his memory before that.

So I walked around again, staring at his body splayed carelessly along the bed. The man slept like an animal too. A disgust

  • Biker-in-law's Death Kiss   The universe's substitue

In a daze, I stumbled into my house alone. The rain was beating down even more heavily than I had thought possible, and the sky was so dark that I stumbled twice in my living room before reaching the light switch.I needed a drink, I needed to tend to my wound, I needed to bathe and wash these unsorted feelings off me, but most desperately, I needed Olivia. But I felt too soiled to do anything about it. I did not deserve her, not after lying to her face when she had been honest with me.Not after holding such an important truth from her.I flicked the light switch on, and turned towards the bar as the sky rumbled again.“Fucking hell.” I cursed at the loud blast of thunder that followed, my shoulders quivering. What sort of wretched weather was this?My fingers brushed past the bottles of Don Julio, Bordeaux, Remy Martin, Macallan 18, all enticing company for my melancholy, but closed around the tapered bottle of Lagavulin 16 and its irresistible smoky darkness.Unloading my pockets

  • Biker-in-law's Death Kiss   A bad day

My eyes took in all the corners of the empty garage, the sharp, metallic smell of motor oil clinging to the air. This was one more stranger's garage/basement I had walked into the last few days.Standing spread legged with both hands leaning on the closed umbrella between my legs like a cane, I stared at Conor-Uncle. He stared back at me, his eyes darting between my brothers flanking me, Axel smoking with cool eyes, Sean stiff as a statue.“I asked for a private conversation.”“And I asked my guards to remain outside. These are my brothers.” “Are you fucking their wives too?” He grinned with bloodshot eyes.I stared Axel down till he was breathing evenly again, and the madness died in his eyes. He was the explosive one here. The one I had to handle with care. My head swiveled back to the old man. “Good to see you are getting over your grief. I have something for you,” I said, and Sean pressed his car's remote control, the beeping sound reached us from a distance outside in the dow

  • Biker-in-law's Death Kiss   A funeral procession

It was a bad day. That much was clear enough to anyone who observed the weather. The sun wrestled to stay out of the clouds, and as they turned the sky into a battleground, the weather darkened, and brightened and darkened again. So by the time we arrived at the chapel where the funeral procession would begin, no one knew if it would rain or not. From the moment we stepped out of the car, I kept Axel close, feeling like the father of a mischievous child even though we were age mates. He couldn’t stand Mateo and that feeling persisted even in death. And despite sharing a similar emotion towards the dead man, I felt some chill and a bit of sorrow as we hung around waiting for the procession to begin. This was supposed to be my death. And this would likely have been my funeral, leaving Olivia alone and mourning, Dean gloating and relieved. I could not help wondering how much time I could afford to waste doing “whatever the lady wants” before it became too late, and then she died.Elev

  • Biker-in-law's Death Kiss   The storm gathers

I had too much on my mind to care about any of Sam’s words, so I spent the rest of the night in my house, resting, to get my strength back up.At dawn, I began the painfully tedious task of sifting through the stash of blackmail videos Dean and I had created over the years. However, this stash suddenly appeared miserly for the sacred gem that was the Rosette. There was no blackmail material here big enough to get any politician involved with retrieving the Rosetta.I turned away from my desk with an exhausted hiss just as a knock sounded on the door. One of the dogs walked in and stopped by the walnut wood desk.“Change of duty?” I asked, and he nodded.“I was with her yesterday,” he said, and gave me a breakdown of Olivia’s day. I frowned at the part he told me she was at the beach with Rossi. That sounded nothing like

  • Biker-in-law's Death Kiss   I have never liked you

COLTI woke up to a loud, consistent bang in my head that seemed to be coming from everywhere and nowhere. And sitting up with a wince, I cursed at the immediate stab of pain in my shoulder, a reminder of the bullet lodged there just nights ago.My head dropped into my open palms, heavy and beating, and that was the moment I realized that the outside bang was real.I stood up, instantly feeling the caress of Olivia’s lingering scent. I lied to her.I lied to my Olivia, and I had no idea how I was going to live with myself till I found a solution to this.Lying was completely out of nature for me, but at that moment she mentioned the Rosetta, I couldn't think of any other ways to stop her from chasing it.The moment those men knew she was after it, any chance we had of saving her life would be cut out.&

  • Biker-in-law's Death Kiss   Impressing Olivia

“When we first met, I thought you were apathetic. Now, I realize you were simply tired,” Leonardo said.I tugged my beach hat down to better cover my face, as my eyes followed the froth at the edges of the beach water.“That’s one hell of a conversation starter.”“Hello Aphrodite, fancy seeing you here?” He said, and paused. Despite not moving, it felt like he was leaning in because his baritone dropped even lower, conspiratorial when he asked, “Is that better?”I shifted, “Did I strike you as a woman who loves pretenses?”“No. That’s why I find the body foundation confusing.” He squinted, and my head jerked back. How had he noticed my skin was covered in sunscreen foundation when he stared into my eyes like this? He had not looked away from my eyes even once.“Former drag queen?” My voice returned coldly, my attempt to veil my irritation at his comment, failing. He shook his head. “Cousins. Eleven of the most feminine daisies." “Poor women, do you judge their appearances daily, or
