Chapter 8 - Our differences aside

Early in the morning, I got up to check on the cafe, which was in perfect order. I don't know how Jess did it but she performed a miracle. I got Domenic's shirt out of the dryer and put it into a paper bag before going to the hospital.

I got there just as a nurse was leaving Summer's room.

"Good morning, how is she? Did she wake up?" I asked quickly.

"She is doing great, she should wake up any moment now." The nurse told me.

"Is it ok if I wait inside? I won't disturb her."

"Of course, Mr. Davis gave instructions to let you in when you came." He did?

"Is he here?" I asked as I looked through the window into Summer's room.

"He just stepped out for a coffee. He stayed the whole night." He did. Of course he did. I thanked the nurse and went into the room. When I sat by her bed it occurred to me that I could have bought some flowers.

Summer looked pale, her hair a bit tangled. I took her hand in mine and noticed her nails were broken, she must have fought with her assailant. Sudden
