Part 5: Getting Pregnant

"You're the woman who's been talked about on social media?"

Being in the middle of Xavier's family suddenly coming to Sherin's hospital room was not something that was wanted.

Moments ago, after Alex's arrival, there had been an unexpected fight between Alex and Xavier. Sherin was hit by Alex's punch that was supposed to be aimed at Xavier, then Xavier took her to the hospital instead. Although the truth is that Alex's punch wound is only a thin and small bruise.

As a result, Sherin now had to face Enzy and Elbarack, Xavier's parents, who were looking at her intently. Sherin really felt awkward getting that question from Enzy, Xavier's mother.

"Mama, don't be hard on him," admonished Xavier who was on the right side of Sherin's bed.

Enzy's gaze shifted to Xavier. "Why are you defending her?" she asked sarcastically. "I told you to have a partner, but why choose a woman like this?"

Sherin was honestly offended by what Enzy called her. But not wanting to get involved in an argument, Sherin just kept her mouth shut.

"She's not my girlfriend," said Xavier who was no less glaring at Enzy.

"Then why did you guys kiss in a nightclub?" Enzy asked to the point while looking at Sherin and Xavier in turn. "You're not very good at taking care of your business, Xavier, but you're having fun at a nightclub with this woman?"

Xavier immediately scowled in disgust at Enzy's words. There was a thin, sardonic smile curving his face.

"This is why I prefer to spend my time having fun because you guys won't appreciate my efforts."

Hearing Xavier's words, Sherin suddenly opened her eyes in surprise. Sherin did not expect that Xavier would say such words out loud to his parents.

'Why are they so tense towards each other?' Sherin thought as she watched Xavier and his family.

Enzy also laughed a sarcastic, dismissive laugh. "You're the one who can never learn," he retorted sharply, then looked back at Sherin. "This woman... which conglomerate family are you from?"

Sherin couldn't answer Enzy's question, of course. Because she did not come from any conglomerate family.

"I..."

"You don't need to ask her things like that," Xavier cut in deftly.

Enzy held up a hand to Xavier, signaling him to stop talking.

"I'm not done talking yet. Let her answer the question I just asked." Enzy emphasized every word in his sentence to give Sherin a warning.

While Xavier was forced to say nothing, Sherin tried to gather her guts. She was not Xavier's partner after all, so she did not need to create a good image in front of Enzy.

While Xavier was forced to say nothing, Sherin tried to gather her guts. She wasn't Xavier's partner after all, so she didn't need to create a good image in front of Enzy.

"I'm not from any conglomerate family," Sherin replied firmly, not wanting to feel intimidated by Enzy's gaze and words. "And, I'm not Xavier's lover. I'm just Xavier's new personal secretary."

Enzy raised both her face and eyebrows. Sherin's answer was not at all what he expected. Suddenly, Enzy chuckled-so calm yet so indicative that she underestimated Sherin implicitly.

"You're off my firstborn from now on. Xavier, fire her from her job."

***

One month passed so quickly.

Sherin pensively looked at the object in her palm. The two red lines marked on this object had made her unable to move since she first learned the results of her urine test.

During the past month, Sherin had not had sex with anyone. The last time was when she was with Xavier in the apartment that night-an event that Sherin did not expect to happen under the influence of alcohol.

"Xavier..." Sherin's voice was low, but there was an undercurrent of anger. "How are you going to deal with this?"

Sherin gripped the cell phone in her hand very tightly. Ever since she saw the positive pregnancy result on the test pack, Sherin had intended to contact Xavier. But her heart suddenly hesitated after remembering Xavier's family who had kicked her out loud.

Did Sherin have the right to demand responsibility from Xavier?

Would Xavier believe that the child in her womb was theirs after one month had passed?

Various considerations of bad possibilities kept Sherin from contacting Xavier. Even so, on the other hand, Sherin's curiosity was very strong to know how Xavier would react.

So, with some trepidation, Sherin started looking for Xavier's contact phone number. She pushed aside the doubts and bad speculations in her mind.

"I don't know if he'll pick up my call or not, but he..."

[Tut, tut, tut]

Sherin was stunned to see the rejected call caption on her phone screen. Xavier rejected her phone call!

"Jerk," Sherin muttered with a sardonic laugh. "He stuck me with his offer, and now he's rejecting my calls?"

Without delay, Sherin immediately wiped her face using the sink water. Cleaning the traces of tears, although it could not fade the puffiness of her eyes.

Sherin tightly grasped the test pack in her hand, then exited the bathroom. Unfortunately Sherin was immediately confronted by Mark, her father, who seemed to be waiting for her to come out.

"Two hours in the bathroom, what did you do?" asked Mark with a suspicious glance at Sherin.

"I didn't do anything," Sherin replied, pretending to put on a normal face.

Mark realized there was an object in Sherin's hand that she was trying to hide. Feeling curious, Mark finally approached and tried to take the object from Sherin's hand.

"You're crying after two hours in the bathroom. What are you holding?!" Mark's tone rose as he tried to grab the test pack from Sherin's hand.

"No, you don't need to see Papa!"

Sherin gaped in surprise when the test pack in her hand was successfully taken by Mark.

With a curious face, Mark looked at this test pack before finally widening his eyes. Mark looked at Sherin in disbelief.

"Are you pregnant?" Mark asked. "By whom?"

Sherin didn't want to answer at first, but Mark's sharp look made her awkward. Sherin gulped down saliva, her throat choking at the mention of Xavier's name.

"Who?!" Mark asked more loudly.

"Xavier!" Sherin spontaneously replied. "The CEO of the Andarsa Group company. The child in my womb is his."

Mark breathed heavily as his shoulders slumped limply. He looked at Sherin for a split second with mixed emotions in his eyes.

"That powerful CEO? The child in your womb is his?" asked Mark, confirming.

Sherin nodded her head hesitantly.

"Gosh, Sherin. I might not have a problem if your partner was another man. But this is... Xavier! You won't be able to marry him!"

Sherin couldn't answer for a moment. However, a crazy idea in her brain made her think of something.

"I'm going to Xavier's company office right now to discuss this-"

"No way!" Mark cut Sherin off. "Sherin, listen, your name is already trending. You know, he has business connections to other companies. During your meetings with your boutique business colleagues, you're embarrassed because you're seen by them as a prostitute!"

Mark's words managed to stab Sherin's feelings. At that moment, her lips fell silent. Indeed, she had already gotten a bad image even though the news articles about the kiss incident with Xavier had been taken down. Because there are still certain parties who re-spread posts about her on their personal social media channels.

"If you go to Xavier, what do you want? Ask him to marry you? His family has already dumped you, Sherin."

Sherin bowed her head. Hearing the facts spoken by Mark, she felt that she had truly been trampled on.

"You can't stay here, Sherin. You have to go somewhere until people forget about you. Papa will arrange for a ticket to your grandparents' village."

Sherin just raised her head and wanted to say her protest. But Mark gave her a warning through his eyes.

"There is no argument. You will leave in two days. Xavier won't find you."
