Chapter Nine

Maria

It's been 3 days since I got discharged from the hospital. Theo and I were always by mums side. She came home yesterday but didn't talk much. Uncle Angelo was here too to help as well. I have not seen or even heard about father in these 3 days.

Right now we are seated at the table having dinner. Father is not here which is a good thing. Mum said he just ran and is missing.

Me and Theo were sitting next to each other and in front of us was mum and Angelo. There was tension in the air, I could feel it. Theo was behaving different and distant from yesterday, he is not even looking at me and now, I feel like I did something wrong. I tried to approach him earlier, but he say he was busy. Mum cleared her throat and said to me.

"So Maria, you know we all love you right?"

Why is she asking me this?

"Yes, why are you asking me this?"

"Well I and your brother were thinking many you should, you know, settle down."
