Chapter 51: When the Truth Comes Out

Miranda’s P.O.V

I walked into the cafeteria; pulse unsettled. Tensions were still thick, since I’d found out my e-husband had murdered his lover just yesterday. I’d skipped lunch yesterday due to lack of appetite but today, I was really famished. I hadn’t eaten much in the morning and last night, even though Davien tried by all means to convince me to do so but I just couldn’t. The thought of ever having been entangled with Michael made my skin crawl and my stomach twist painfully.

Exhaling inaudibly, I made it to the lunch line and got a serving of today’s special before finding my way over to our usual table. To my surprise, only Jeremy was occupying the space and he looked a little bit distracted. “Hey Jeremy,” I greeted before plopping down next to him.

He glanced at me fleetingly and offered a half-hearted smile. “Hey, baby doll. Where were you yesterday?” he asked immediately, and I looked down at my plate in disdain.
