Eighty Seven

Mike could barely sleep; his hand was on Amelia’s waist as she slept. Her chest heaved up and down slowly. He thought of what Steve had said about putting himself in danger. He didn’t want to, but it seemed impossible not to be in danger where these people were involved.

Unless he was ready to overlook the past and present, which he wouldn’t do. It would be dangerous to the future generation, and he would be damn before allowing such a thing to happen when he could have prevented it.

His child was also part of that future generation, and he’s doing this for them.

Instead of sleeping, he picked up his laptop and got to work, trying to seal some deals he should have if not for his busy schedule. He was so focused on it that he didn’t see Amelia wake up until she spoke.

“Aren’t you going to sleep?”

He faced her with all traces of worry gone from his eyes.

“Wifey. I’m just trying to close some deals. Go to bed.”

She frowned, sitting up on the bed. “It’s my fault you have so much to do,
