I crawled to the door, unable to hold in the tears that dropped from my eyes. I forced my feet back to work and gripped the knob, twisting it open.

My heart was already shattered from the beginning till there was no piece left to squash.

“Jaden?” I whispered, staggering in.

He suddenly stopped ramming into her when he heard my voice and craned his neck back.

His eyes widened and he cursed loudly before pulling out of her. Erica screamed and pulled the blanket to her body, flushed in embarrassment.

My body heated up in rage as I stared at them with tear-filled eyes.

"So, this was it? This was the work you were talking about?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.

The redness on Erica's face disappeared, and she stared at me without remorse in her eyes, and the same for Jaden.

"You were sleeping with your ex-wife? You should be ashamed!" I screamed and marched closer, unable to suppress my anger.

"You don't understand! I've always loved her!" He snapped shamelessly and my feet froze.

"What?" I whispered in a trembling voice.

Jaden scoffed and pulled on his shorts then got up from the bed and began to approach me. There was not a single guilt in his eyes as he drew closer.

"What would a rich kid born with a diamond spoon in her mouth know about true love, huh?" He asked and my throat knotted.

His mother's words echoed in my head and my fist clenched.

"You are shameless!" I spat in disgust and he chuckled.

"Yes, I'm shameless for going back to the woman I love," he replied.

My suspicions were right. He only married me because I looked like his ex-wife, he never married me out of love or affection. He wanted me to be Erica, he saw me as Erica for the whole fucking years we've been together.

If there was something he loved about Melissa Williams, it was the money and my influence. It was never about me.

I growled in pain and slapped him hard on the cheek.

His head was knocked to the side, and the imprints of my fingers appeared on his cheek.

"Go on, hit me again. What else can you do aside from that?" He mocked.

I raised my hand again to hit him until I was satisfied but Erica grabbed my hand before it could get to his face.

"Enough!" She snapped.

I swerved my head in her direction, glaring at her.

"Get away from me, bitch!" I growled and pushed her roughly.

Her feet slipped as she staggered and she fell, crashing into my wardrobe.

"Erica!" Jaden growled and before I could react, he slapped me.

A loud beep filled my head and my pain washed across my cheek and ear.

I staggered back and slammed my eyes shut, my head swirling.

Though everything looked blurry, I watched him help her to her feet and then kissed her passionately.

I staggered up to my feet and grabbed the vase then rushed towards them blindly. I didn't care about who the vase would hit, I just wanted to see blood flow in the room.

"Jaden!" Erica screamed and pushed Jaden away as I threw the vase towards them.

The vase smashed into the wardrobe and broke into pieces.

I spun around to grab another vase, but Jaden grabbed my arm and pushed me to the wall, then wrapped his hand around my throat.

"Bitch, how dare you try to kill me?" He groused, applying pressure on my neck

I coughed and sank my nails into his wrist, glaring at him and still trying to stay alive.

"I promise you, Jaden, I will kill you!" I spat out and choked, slowly losing my breath.

Jaden laughed like a maniac and let go of me.

I dropped to the ground, coughing and gasping for air while rubbing my reddened neck.

"For your old man's sake, I will leave you alive," Jaden said and I scoffed, laughing and crying at the same time.

If anyone had told me that this bastard would treat me this way, I would never have believed it. This was who he truly was under the facade.

"I hate you!" I growled and he scoffed.

"I never loved you either," he chuckled.

He bent down and reached out to touch my hair but I slapped his hand away.

"Just sign the divorce papers and walk away. I tried hard to love you, but it just wasn't working, and to add to it, you cared less about my kids," he said, and my chest tightened.

"Liar! You and that fucking bitch were the ones who never cared!" I growled, almost choking on my tears.

"I don't give a damn. A birth mother will always be the best," he muttered and my stomach knotted.

His mother knew about his affair with Erica? I wasn't surprised, though, she had always hated me.

"Let's see if the children will choose a nonchalant dog like you over me!" I snapped and sprang up.

"I'm not going anywhere without the children," I muttered and his lips turned up.

"They are not your children—"

"They are! I fucking raise them, bastard!" I growled, pushing him back.

I paused and looked at Erica.

"Just wait, I will make you hate those cameras," I said, and turned around to walk away, but paused and turned around.

"Don't worry, I will sign the divorce papers and never come back. A dog doesn't deserve the tears of a girl born with a diamond spoon," I said and anger flashed across his eyes.

I grabbed the papers from the drawer and descended the stairs, wiping away the tears.

The children were all I had left. They were the only ones who would ever care about me.

"David?" I paused on the stairs when I saw sitting on the sofa with Mrs Rosalia standing beside the couch.

"You were arguing with Daddy? Why?" He asked and my lips slammed shut.

"I…"

"Are you upset he wants mommy back?" He blurted out, and my breath ceased for a few seconds.

"Huh?"

"We want mommy!" Betty's little voice filled the room, and I looked up towards the door.

I gasped loudly and rushed towards her, grabbing her out of her grandma's hands.

I knelt before her and cupped her cheeks

"Betty, I am your mommy," she whispered.

"No, you're not my mother!" She snapped, and my jaw dropped in shock.

I faced Jaden who was standing at the bottom of the stairs with tears gathering in my eyes again.

"It's not like she's lying. You're not their mother, just accept that," he smirked, tilting his head to the side. The little courage I had dropped and I pulled away from her.

"I am not your mother?" I whispered, filled with pain.

"No, she is my mother!" Betty said and I felt my soul leave my body.

"Come on, Betty, let's go to our real mom!" David spat and I dropped to the ground.

I gasped and clutched my neck, unable to breathe properly.

"You heard them now, now sign the papers and free my son!" His mother yelled, tugging roughly on my dress.

What could they have done to turn the children against me? What?

As I stared at them while they reunited, I realized that I was the loser in the end.

I picked up the papers and signed them with trembling hands. As I handed the papers to Mrs Rachel, I swore to make them pay. Every one of them.

CHAPTER 166 — She Walked Away Free The morning after everything ended arrived quietly, as if the world itself was careful not to startle her.Melissa woke to pale sunlight slipping through sheer curtains, the sound of water moving somewhere beyond the windows. For a few seconds, she didn’t remember where she was—or why her body felt both exhausted and strangely light. Then memory returned, not like a knife, but like a closed door.Castor was gone.Gone for good. She sat up slowly, half-expecting the familiar tightness in her chest, the reflexive fear that had lived with her for so long. It didn’t come. There was grief, yes, and something like mourning for the years she had lost—but the fear was absent. That was new.Tyrone stood on the balcony, phone pressed to his ear, his voice low and controlled as he finished a call. When he turned and saw her awake, his expression softened in a way that still surprised her sometimes.“You okay?” he asked.Melissa nodded. “I think… I really am.”

CHAPTER 165 — The Choice That Ends a MonsterThe city didn’t sleep that night.Sirens stitched the dark together, blue and red lights washing over glass towers and silent streets. News vans crowded outside the evacuated venue, reporters shouting questions no one was ready to answer. Inside a black SUV moving steadily through the chaos, Melissa sat perfectly still, her hands folded in her lap as if calm were something she could summon by force.Tyrone watched her from the corner of his eye.She hadn’t spoken since they left.“Melissa,” he said softly.“I’m thinking,” she replied. That worried him more than panic would have. The safe house was a steel-and-concrete fortress overlooking the river, guarded, isolated, designed to disappear people when the world became too loud. The moment the door shut behind them, the quiet rushed in again thick, pressing, full of unfinished business.Melissa finally exhaled.“He planned that,” she said. “Not to kill anyone. Not yet.”Tyrone loosened his t

CHAPTER 164 — A Ring, a Lie, and the Man Who Refused to DieThe first thing Melissa noticed was the silence. Not the peaceful kind—the kind that settled after a storm—but the heavy, unnatural quiet that pressed against her ears as Tyrone drove faster than he should have through the city streets. The river lights disappeared behind them, swallowed by concrete and steel, and the engagement ring on her finger felt suddenly heavier, like it carried a warning. She stared at her phone again. No new messages. That frightened her more than anything.“Castor is supposed to be in maximum security,” Tyrone said, voice controlled but tight. “No access to phones. No outside contact.”“Then how did he text me?” Melissa whispered.Tyrone didn’t answer immediately. His jaw clenched, knuckles whitening on the steering wheel.“There’s only one explanation,” he said finally. “He’s not where we think he is.”Her chest tightened. “You’re saying he escaped.”“I’m saying,” Tyrone corrected, “that someone he

CHAPTER 163 — The Man Who StayedMelissa Williams had learned the sound of abandonment. It came quietly—through unanswered calls, through doors that closed without explanation, through promises that dissolved the moment life became inconvenient. It wasn’t loud. It didn’t scream. It simply… left.So when Tyrone stayed, it confused her.He stayed when she woke up shaking in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, Castor’s face still clawing at her thoughts. He stayed when the court dates dragged on longer than promised. He stayed when the tabloids dragged her name through mud they never bothered to clean off.He stayed even when she didn’t ask him to.That morning, Melissa stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in her apartment, staring at the city she had rebuilt herself in. The sun was pale, hesitant like it wasn’t sure she deserved warmth yet.Behind her, Tyrone adjusted his cufflinks calmly.“You didn’t sleep,” he said.It wasn’t a question.Melissa gave a faint smile. “I did. CHAPTER 162— Power, Not RescueThree years later.Melissa no longer remembered what fear felt like. Not because she had never known it but because it no longer ruled her decisions. From the glass wall of her office, the city spread beneath her like something conquered, not owned. Traffic moved in disciplined chaos. Towers rose and fell in steel confidence. Somewhere down there were people who still whispered her name with curiosity, envy, admiration. She had stopped caring which one it was.“Five minutes, Ms. Williams,” her assistant said softly.Melissa nodded without turning. “Let them in when the board is seated.”When the door closed, she adjusted her cuffs and looked at her reflection faintly mirrored in the glass. The woman staring back was composed, sharp-eyed, unapologetic. This was not the woman Castor had tried to break. This was not the woman Jaden had died protecting. This was the woman who had taken loss and forged authority from it.The board meeting went exactly as expe

CHAPTER 161— The Woman Who Stayed Standing The rain started just as the casket was lowered. Not dramatic. Not sudden. Just a steady drizzle that soaked into black coats and umbrellas, as if the sky itself had decided mourning should not be dry or clean. Melissa stood at the front. No umbrella. No one offered her one. She didn’t look fragile enough to need it. The cemetery was crowded press, executives, politicians, people who had only known Jaden as a name attached to wealth and influence. They whispered in clusters, glancing at her when they thought she wouldn’t notice. That’s her. The woman he died protecting. The reason Castor lost everything. Melissa didn’t turn. She kept her eyes on the casket, her hands folded loosely in front of her, rain tracing down her hair, her face, her neck. She felt it. Every drop. She welcomed it. The priest spoke. Words about legacy. About sacrifice. About a man who had tried to outrun his past and failed but not before saving someone els
