"Why the hell are you driving so slow?" Didn’t I tell you that I was really late?" I yelled at the driver, my voice going over the roof of the car due to how loud it was.

We barely dodged hitting the car in front of us as my driver sped down the busy street. I hated it when I was late for an appointment.

"Ma’am, please, I’m trying to get you there as fast as I can," he pleaded, gently gripping the wheel. His hands trembled as he tried to remain steady on the road.

"Stop talking! Just drive! I'm not concerned about your excuses," I snapped, slapping my hand against the car seat.

I woke up this morning to a strange message—something about an urgent meeting at the filming set location. I didn’t see it early enough, so that explains the rush now.

And this traffic? It was just crazy. Cars everywhere, honking, people rushing everywhere. I hated this city. Seattle is a nightmare, I hissed under my breath. If not for the fact that I had work to do here, I would have never wanted to come bac

I looked around the room. Everyone was way pissed and frustrated. The air was heavy. I knew the news about the funding pause was bad, but I didn’t expect Helen to lose her temper like that. She was so angry, so raw. I saw her face filled up with different shades of emotion. This was the first time I saw her challenge me or even Dan.When she said, “Why would a company that has been behind us all this time suddenly cut the deal?” I was surprised. I could see the shock on Dan’s face also. He looked like he wanted to yell back but was holding it in. I signaled him with my expression to maintain his cool. I kept quiet. I didn’t want to make things worse, but I knew I had to say something. I looked at her and then at the others. I needed to take hold of the situation and make sure everyone was calm and not heated up.“Helen,” I called out softly but firmly, “calm down. We need to stay professional.”But she didn’t listen. She just kept talking, raising her voice.“All I want,” She said

“Mom, what the hell was that?” I hissed as soon as I stepped into her living room. She didn’t even flinch. She just sat there on the couch like she was expecting me.I had driven straight from my place to hers. No stops. No calls. I needed to see her face-to-face. I needed to talk to her — now. But I remembered what Dan said. “Stay calm. Don’t shout. Be smart.” So I tried to remain rational. I walked straight to the freezer, pulled out a cold bottle of water, opened it, and took a deep breath as I sat across from her.She looked at me. Her eyes didn’t blink. Not once. Her face was blank, unreadable. Like she already knew what this was about.“Mom,” I started again, calmer now. “I need to talk to you.”She folded her arms. “Then talk, Ashton. What is it now?”“I know what you did. The meeting, the contract changes, the funding decision... You didn’t even tell me. You just did it behind my back.”She smiled — that small, evil-looking smile she always had when she thought she was smart

“Dan,” I called out, trying to sit well. I was already so uncomfortable with the chair I was on, but I just had to manage the discomfort. “We really have to be smart about this. You know how influential my mom is. She gets whatever she wants, no matter what. I mean, she’s the kind of woman who can turn a simple company meeting into something she controls completely.”“Yeah,” Dan replied, nodding in approval. “I know exactly what you mean. Your mom, she’s powerful. She’s used to getting her way. No one can stop her when she sets her mind to something.”“Do you think I don’t know that?” I snapped, standing up from my chair. “If she succeeds this time, there’s no way me and Helen will come back together.”“Because, think about it — if she takes over the funding, the project, and the whole company, Helen won’t have any reason to stay, since the contract she came to Seattle for will now be over. She’ll leave Seattle, and that’ll be the end of us. There will be nothing left for her here. A

‘How the hell was all this happening without my knowledge?’ I asked myself as I looked straight at Lisa and then turned around in rage, storming back to my office. My face was filled with anger that I didn't even wait to answer those that greeted me as I walked to my office. I couldn’t believe I had been kept in the dark about all this. I was so pissed I didn’t even know what I was going to do next. All I could feel was confusion and rage. I wondered what the hell was going on. How long had this been happening? Who knew about it? And why didn’t anyone tell me? How would the shareholders of this company all decide to do something because my mom instructed them to do it? Is my mom the owner of this company?Lisa was behind me, stammering, trying to explain. “Sir, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t able to tell you earlier,” She begged, her hands were already shaking. Her voice trembled, like she was afraid of my reaction.I turned around. “Speak! Just tell me what you know. I don’t have all day

3 Weeks later“Finally, I feel better,” I groaned out with a chuckle as I brushed my hair while looking at the mirror.I was standing there, trying to put on my shirt. My body still felt a little weak, but I was determined to go back to work. I was tired of being treated like a baby when I was a full-grown man.I picked out my suit carefully. It was a simple black one, nothing fancy, but it looked good. I buttoned it up slowly, making sure I didn’t strain myself. My mom was sitting nearby, watching me.“Are you sure you should be doing this today?” She asked, frowning.“I’m fine, Mom,” I replied, trying to sound calm. “I’ve been stuck at home for too long. I need to go out. I have work to do and money to make.”She shook her head. “You still need more rest. You’re not fully healed yet. Remember what the doctor said.”“I’m not a kid anymore, Mom,” I countered, smiling a little. “I can handle a meeting. I’ve been resting enough. It’s time I get back to work.”Upon all my assurances, she

I was just walking around the room, my mind was everywhere and I was really pissed. “I really don’t take any of this lightly at all!” I yelled at the top of my voice. “No matter what… What sort of rubbish is this?”Ashton’s mom, sitting on the edge of the armchair, flinched but quickly composed herself. She placed her hands in her lap and maintained a calm, gentle expression. “Rose, calm down. Let’s talk about this.”“Calm down?” I repeated, trying to hold my laughter inside. “Do you think it’s that easy? I’ve been made to look like a fool! A fool, do you hear me? And I won’t take it anymore.”She stood up slowly, her silk dress gracing her movements. “Listen to me, Rose,” She said, her voice calm and steady. “I promise you, what happens, Ashton goes to no one else but you. You have to believe me on this.”I stopped walking around; I could feel my heart pumping blood faster than it was supposed to. “How can you promise that? How can you even say that when Helen is still lurking aroun

I finished the scene; my voice was actually filled with lots of emotions. Seeing I was done, Mr. Riley called out, “That was great, Helen! Really felt that!”I nodded, trying to pull myself back to reality. Back to the set.We ran through the scene a few more times, making sure all the parts were on point, including the delivery of the lines. Each time, it felt a little easier to separate myself from the character, to just focus on the acting. But everything just kept on reminding me of everything good I once had with Ashton. Between takes, people would come up to me, offering their condolences about Ashton, asking if he was okay. I answered their questions politely, keeping my answers short and vague. I didn’t want to get into it. Not here. Not now. Some people were genuinely kind, their concern clear in their eyes. Others… others were just nosy. Trying to get the latest gossip. I could see it in their faces, the way their eyes were all over me. I knew for sure that was what they

“What a day I’m going to have,” I murmured as I pulled up in the studio’s parking lot. It was the next day, and I had to be back on set. My head was really aching, and so was my heart, after everything that had happened over the weekend. The hospital drama, Ashton collapsing, the phone call… It was all too much.I knew everyone’s eyes would be on me today. The news about Ashton being poisoned would be everywhere, and because I was with him, people would talk. Some might think I wanted him dead, others would be surprised, and some might even believe I was the one who did it. But at this point, I didn’t really care. All I knew was that I was here to do my job, play my roles, and then go home. I wasn’t going to let whatever anyone said get to me or make me angry. As I parked my car and turned off the engine, I saw someone standing just a few meters away from me. Mr. Riley. The director. The man who talked… a lot.“Shit,” I said to myself as I rested my forehead on the steering wheel fo
