Anna clenched her hands tightly as her eyes stayed glued on the picture. That very image reminded her of that one time when she was still innocent and naïve. She grimaced as painful and embarrassing memories of that day crashed into her head. Memories she had worked hard to forget. These memories were part of the reason she decided to end her marriage. But that aside, she racked her brains but still could not come up with a solid reason as to why Mr. Scott was bringing up events of the past.

The screen blurred for a split second, and when it cleared again, another footage popped up. This one showed the outside of the hotel. Under the heavy rain, a taxi pulled over, and a girl stepped out of the car into the rain. She exchanged a few words with the cab driver before the cab drove away. The girl walked into the premises under the rain without an umbrella, and it didn’t take long for her to be dren

“ANNA!” Liam screamed, watching Anna’s body make contact with the car. A shock ran through his system, and for a moment, everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. He dashed towards her, taking wide steps, but he was still late. He only managed to touch the fringe of her dress before her head touched the floor. The culprit swerved, screeching tires filling the tense silence, before driving off. He didn’t even bother to check out the conditions of his victim. A classic case of hit and run. It almost seemed like a premeditated murder, not a pure accident. Either that, or it was a case of drunk driving.“Anna,” he called, kneeling beside her, his knees hitting hard on the asphalt, but he didn’t care. She was his priority. He shook her shoulders, his hands trembling, and his heart slamming against his rib cage. His chest tightened, panic taking over her entire being, and his breath became ragged and heavy.&ldqu

Liam ignored Melisa and walked towards Anna, pulling her into an embrace. “Anna, let’s go home.”“Home? What home?” Anna stiffened in his embrace, her arms dropping to her sides. She wanted to wrap her arms around his neck and melt into him. Every cell in her body convinced her that that was the right thing to do. She couldn’t forget what he just did to her hours ago. Her head told her she should push him away, flee from here, and move on with her life. But he smelled so good. So good that she couldn’t resist the temptation to inhale his scent. Her heart picked up its pace and those damn butterflies in her stomach started a crazy flutter party. The woodsy scent she loved so much flooded her senses, and her arms, as if they had a mind of their own, wrapped around his back, her forehead resting on his chest.“Liam, I don’t have a home, Anna whispered, slowly backing up from the embrace. “What I do have is a cold mansion. I don’t want to live there anym

  • Billionaire's Firecracker    Chapter 19: Who will he choose?

As Anna walked down the road, a taxi pulled over on the curb, which struck her as odd since the area wasn’t close to any residential area. She tried peeking inside to glimpse at the driver, but she didn’t see anything unusual. She still checked the license plate just in case. Although it wasn’t raining anymore, a slight mist covered the area, lessening the visibility. Anna fidgeted with the handle of her umbrella, shivering from the cold. Maybe walking alone in the rain was a bad idea. She should have accepted Jake’s offer. The taxi door opened, and Melisa stormed out of the car, her eyes blazing with fury. “Anna! You truly have no sense of shame!” she screamed, rushing towards Anna. “You dare act against me now?” Melisa grabbed a handful of Anna’s hair and yanked her backwards. “How dare you humiliate me in front of all those people, huh?”Anna let go of the umbrella, grabbed Melisa’s hand, and ya

  • Billionaire's Firecracker    Chapter 18: The rain

Anna walked down the empty sidewalk, rain pelting her head hard. Her once beautiful dress clung to her like a second skin, outlining her gorgeous figure, but no one was out to admire the wonderful art of her maker. She swiped away her wet hair that clung to her face and squinted a little, trying to see better in the heavy rain. Tears mixed with rain water washed down her face, and she confirmed that waterproof makeup indeed worked because no mascara lines were running down her face, not that she cared anyway.Liam’s act of pouring water on her hurt more than she expected. Tears pooled in her eyes again as she thought of the disgusted look she had received from everyone. She had turned into a joke of the party, and he’d left her there looking like a clown. Was she really that much of an embarrassment to him? Maybe she really didn’t belong to his world. It was time she found a place she bel

After Anna left, not-so-silent murmurs followed as the attendees speculated on their relationship and made up a theory of the corresponding punishment awaiting Anna, each theory more absurd than the last. Did they just say he would beat up his wife? He laughed in his heart. For starters, he wasn’t a wife-beater. He detested those kinds of men with passion. The whispers got louder and more hateful, reaching his ears. Did they have something better to say?His back stiffened as another thought struck him. Was this what Anna endured all these years? That too without saying a word to him. Only enduring it in silence. Then again, how would she have complained when he wasn’t even home in the first place? Thinking back, he’d really been a horrible husband, wasn’t he? But he planned to make things right going forward. But first, he had to deal with the problem at hand.

  • Billionaire's Firecracker    Chapter 16: Chaos

Anna walked in holding her husband’s hand. This was the first time he had ever held her in public like this—she never had a wedding. Excitement bubbled in her heart, feeling like the only woman in his world. Eyes trailed them, and she basked in the limelight— for two minutes—before a buzzing phone interrupted. Liam glanced at his phone and suddenly rushed outside to pick up the call. Anna sighed. Of course, the moment wouldn’t last long!“Finally, the street rat showed up,” Melisa taunted, giving Anna a condescending look. “I was worried you wouldn’t come.” She swirled the wine in her glass, barely hiding her jealousy. “But did you have to come dressed like the peasant you are? You are embarrassing Liam. Do you want people to think he doesn’t give you enough money?”“Good

“Our CEO once said that an enterprise that has people’s hearts will never fail. I believe that your hotel is only financially strapped at the moment and will eventually pay back our loan.”“What do you mean?” Mr. Scott asked, puzzled.“There were moments in my life when I always wished someone would give me a second chance. I understand how it feels when you are at the end of your rope and the world seems to turn a blind eye to your struggles. I didn’t want you to experience that kind of desperation.”“Thank you for believing in me,” Mr. Scott said, and, for the first time since the video started, a genuine smile spread on his face. His hopeful voice filled the room as the video faded away until the screen turned dark.

“Hey, isn’t that Mrs. Parker?” someone recognized Anna at once, and Anna’s plans of staying incognito were crushed just like that. Whoever recognized her was either a friend of Melisa, or someone who had a crush on Liam because the hostility in her eyes couldn’t be justified otherwise. “And why was she riding an Uber?”Was it a crime to ride an Uber now? Anna shook her head at their wild expectations and tried to block out their conversation. She knew nothing good would come out of a group of jealous women. How did she know they were jealous? It was written all over their faces.“Who said rich people can’t ride an Uber? I ride one too,” a fine young lady stuck up for Anna. “Besides, she’s really beautiful. I like her.”“Look at her,
