Cynthia could barely contain her excitement as she walked through the front door.

Her aunt was in the living room, helping Leo with his studies. Both of them looked up when she entered, and Leo immediately noticed the smile on her face.

"You're back!" he exclaimed, putting his book aside. "How did it go? Did you get the job?"

Cynthia laughed at his impatience and placed her handbag on the table.

"I got it."

For a moment, Leo stared at her as if he hadn't understood her words. Then his face lit

Damien stopped his car in front of Cynthia's apartment building and glanced at the illuminated windows. It was getting late, but he hadn't wanted to postpone seeing Ezra any longer. He took out his phone and called Cynthia. It rang several times, and just when he thought she wouldn't answer, she picked up."Hello?""I'm outside your home. Can you come out?"There was a brief silence."What? Now?""Yes."Cynthia pulled the phone away from her ear and looked at the screen, wondering whether she had heard him correctly. She hadn't expected him to show up without informing her, especially after their last conversation. She walked toward the balcony and looked down. There he was, standing beside his car.She recognized him immediately. For a moment, she simply watched him, trying to understand why he had come. She had been thinking about having another conversation with him, about explaining her concerns and setting some boundaries before allowing him to become a regular part of Ezra's lif

  • Billionaire's Prisoner   124

Damien was officially back in her life.Cynthia still found it difficult to believe. After years of convincing herself that she would never have to deal with him again, she was now expected to make room for him. He had met Ezra, and he wanted to see him again. He wanted to become part of their son's life. She should have been happy about it. After all, she had once wished for nothing more than Damien to know about their child and take responsibility. But now that he was finally here, she wasn't sure what she wanted. There were too many things to consider.Should she let him see Ezra whenever he wanted? How often should they meet? Should Damien be allowed to take Ezra out alone? What if he wanted to introduce him to his family or take him to his estate? And what would happen if he eventually wanted more than occasional visits? She had no answers. The thought of Damien becoming a regular presence in their lives frightened her. She couldn't simply allow him to walk in and behave as thoug

Damien had initially asked Cynthia to bring Ezra to his estate for their first meeting, but she had immediately refused. She didn't want their son to visit a place he had never seen before, especially when he was about to meet his father for the first time. She wanted the meeting to happen somewhere neutral, where Ezra would feel comfortable. After some discussion, Damien suggested his father's old house in the city. It was spacious but less formal than the estate, and he rarely used it.Cynthia agreed. On the appointed day, she dressed Ezra in a crisp white shirt and blue trousers. She chose a simple pink dress for herself and tied her hair neatly. She wanted to look presentable, but she wasn't particularly concerned about Damien's opinion.Ezra, on the other hand, seemed excited and nervous at the same time."Mommy, are we going to meet my daddy?""Yes, sweetheart.""Will he play with me?""I'm sure he will.""Does he have toys?"Cynthia smiled. "You can ask him when we get there."

Cynthia tucked Ezra into bed and pulled the blanket up to his chest. He was still wide awake, holding his favourite stuffed rabbit and looking at her expectantly."Do you want me to read you a story?" she asked, brushing his hair away from his forehead."Yes, Mommy!""Which one?""Little Red Riding Hood!"Cynthia smiled and reached for the storybook on the bedside table. She settled beside him, opened the book, and began reading.Ezra listened attentively, occasionally interrupting her to ask questions or point at the pictures. He seemed particularly interested in the wolf and kept asking whether it was really dangerous."Of course it was dangerous," Cynthia said, pretending to sound serious. "That's why Little Red Riding Hood shouldn't have spoken to strangers."Ezra giggled and snuggled closer to her.She continued reading, but her thoughts were elsewhere. She had been thinking about their conversation with Damien all evening. She knew she couldn't keep the truth from Ezra forever,

Damien had arrived at the café twenty minutes earlier. He sat at a table near the window, occasionally glancing at the entrance. He had chosen a quiet place where they could talk without being disturbed. He didn't want their first proper conversation in years to happen inside the office, with employees walking around and people listening. He wore a dark grey T-shirt and a pair of dark jeans. He hadn't made any special effort to dress for the occasion. In fact, he looked much like the man Cynthia remembered, but something about him seemed different. Perhaps it was the way he kept checking the time, or the nervousness he couldn't quite hide.He was waiting for her. When Cynthia finally walked into the café, he recognized her immediately. His eyes followed her as she approached, and he straightened in his chair. She looked at him briefly before taking the seat opposite him."Hi," he said."Hello."There was an awkward silence.Cynthia placed her handbag beside her and tried to settle her

Cynthia barely remembered how she had made it home.By the time she reached her apartment, her mind was still occupied by the conversation she had tried so hard to avoid. Damien wanted to meet Ezra. After nearly four years of silence, he had suddenly appeared in her life again, asking for something she had never imagined he would want. She opened the door and found Ezra sitting on the living room floor, surrounded by his toys. He was busy making a tower with his building blocks, occasionally knocking it down and laughing before starting all over again. Her aunt was in the kitchen, washing the dishes."Mommy!" Ezra called when he noticed her.Cynthia managed a smile. "Hello, sweetheart."He got up and hurried toward her, holding a small toy car in his hand. She bent down to pick him up and kissed his cheek."What are you playing?""Cars!" he announced proudly, showing her the toy. "Look, Mommy. This one is fast!""Really? Faster than all the other cars?"He nodded enthusiastically and
