Chapter 4:

Carla Rodriguez Hall.

With hesitant steps, I dragged myself into my beautifully decorated living room where my cruel mother inlaw stood in one of her many brightly colored mini pencil dresses which she thought really accented a figure she did not have…

"Babe, what is going on here and who is she?" I raise a question in a shaky voice because my mother inlaw's presence intimidated me.

The other younger woman who spoke ill of me wore leopard-printed leggings with one of those cheap white crop tops you find in second-hand clothing stores which showed her pierced belly button. On her white top, 'I FUCKED YOUR MAN, OOPS.' was written on it... How nasty and cheap of her to pick such an awful outfit, but that was non of my business to worry about.

Her bright pink dyed greasy hair looked like she worked in the petroleum jelly industry.

"Richard, tell your wife to put some respect when she is referring to me." She said while chewing gum with her mouth wide open. The sound it made was very annoying to the ear.

I sneered while rolling my eyes and paid attention to Richard who had not yet given me an answer to our rude-mouthed visitor.

"Honey please go back to bed. I will explain everything later." He answered in a hasty voice.

Suddenly my mother-in-law pulled a face at him. "Richard, if you won't tell her I will." She threatened in a serious voice while eyeballing me.

I furrowed my eyebrows, confused with what was going on. "Babe?" I called him.

"Yes, Richard tell her the truth?" The strange woman spoke in a scratchy high pitched irritating voice.

I clenched my jaw while cringing my eyes for a moment. "Tell me what Richard?" I asked still confused with what Sandra and the strange woman wanted me to know so badly.

"Carla!" Richard exclaimed with clenched jaws and fists. "Go upstairs and I will tell you everything later." He ordered with beads of sweat on his forehead, but I did not budge because I thought there was something important I needed to hear from his mouth.

"You are wasting our time Richy" Sandra called out to her son in a manner she does when she means serious business.

I arched my eyebrows with a tilted head while looking at all three of them. At this point, I'm confused beyond recognition and I allowed this nonsense in my house. I put my hands on my hips.

"Someone better tell me what is going on or else?" I snapped.

"Or else what bitch. " The strange woman said haughtily.

What, I stepped back and clasped my chest at the insolence this woman had in my home.

"Listen to me you little stinky slut, I will chase you out of my house if you don't shut up and let the grown-ups talk."I retaliated to her insults. Like how dared she call me a bitch in my own house. I raised my brow at Richard who looked tongue-tied and sighed heavily.

"Carla, don't call this woman a slut because she is carrying my grandson." Sandra blurted out loud with a grimace.

As soon as she said grandson, my world came to a standstill as my vision became blurry, my head spinning as air sucked out of my lungs, my knees wobbled uncontrollably, and I could not carry the weight of my body.

"Oops," the strange woman let out an evil laugh while putting her fingers to her mouth... On her ring finger, she had the biggest Diamond studded ring and the mischievous twinkle in her eyes sent a cold shiver down my spine.

Grandson. My brain repeatedly echoed that word until I could no longer support my body and plunged to the cold Marple wood floors. I gasped for air which I felt was not getting into my lungs.

"Richard?" I looked up at him with my heart torn into a million pieces. "Is it true?" Tears prickled in the corner of my eyes while I inhaled air which was suddenly becoming scarce in the room.

"No, it's not true honey" he answered back without looking at me and I knew he is lying.

I felt my head whirl even more, I had to rest it on my palm.

"Tell me you are lying Richard," I said in a low voice.

"Yes, Richy. You are lying. Tell your wife the truth. Maybe the divorce will be easier on her." Sandra blurted out loud with pouted lips.

Divorce???

I looked at her and saw the most ungrateful woman in the world. This woman calling herself my mother-in-law was on her deathbed a few months back and I was there next to her. Day in, day out. Her son never visited because he claimed he was too emotional to handle the stress of looking at his cabbage mother. I looked at her and saw red.

How dare she bring another woman, who claimed to be pregnant for my Richard under my roof? I gathered the little strength in me to get up but my legs failed me.

"Yes sweetie, tell her the truth. It will hurt less." The strange woman swayed her hips as she walked towards the man I thought only loved me. She clasped his waist and posed next to him. "Btw (By the way), my name is Karen Hall. We are sister wives for now, but not for too long." She declared while rubbing her tummy in a circular motion and I could not take it anymore.

I huffed and puffed for air but the room felt stuffy. What is going on? Is this a prank, I glanced around the room and everyone had dead serious faces on them.

"Richard?" I called to him in a pleading voice but he avoided my sight.

My darling husband of five years had suddenly become a stranger.

God, please help me get out of this place before these fuckers enjoy my shameful defeated tears they never deserved.

"Oh, my. Sweetheart did you not tell her like you told me about her?" Karen spoke in a sarcastic voice and I bowed my head...This was too much to process in my brain.

The torment was too much, hence I gathered the little strength in me and ran outside the house, not bothering to look behind, I ran straight into the street and the next thing I heard was a loud horn of a car. I stopped and glanced at where it was coming from and the car was not halting.

"Stop!" I screamed and instinctively put my arms up to shield my face. My legs were weak as jelly hence my body froze in one place.

"Get out of the way." The driver of the car frantically waved his hand out of the window as the car swerved, but the road was too narrow to avoid the inevitable.

The car knocked me to the ground as it came to a stop. The impact instantaneously caused me to back out.

A few minutes later,

I opened my eyes and saw fog in the blue sky, and birds freely flying but the sound was muted. Did I die and go to heaven?

"Hey, are you okay?" A deep voice and a loud ringing unsettling sound projected close in my ears while a huge manly shadow towered over me.

This must be heaven, I grinned feeling somewhat relieved that I was not going back to see my ungrateful husband with his good-for-nothing mother.
