CARRIE

The morning air in Copenhagen was cool and clear, brushing gently against my cheeks as I stepped out of my apartment building. The city had a calm rhythm to it that I had grown to love. I breathed in deeply before getting into my car, one hand unconsciously resting over my growing belly.

Six months now.

My hand lingered there for a second longer, feeling the faint movement beneath my palm. “Alright, little one,” I murmured with a small smile. “Let’s go see the doctor.”

The drive to the hospital didn’t take long. One of the things I loved about Copenhagen was how easy everything was, no chaos, no unnecessary noise. Just clean streets, well-marked signs, and polite drivers who actually followed traffic rules. The private hospital I registered at shortly after I arrived was nestled between two glass-fronted office buildings, its modern exterior softened by a small courtyard filled with white benches and trimmed hedges.

I parked, grabbed my purse, and made my way inside. The lobby

SHANE I stopped the car in front of Cathy's apartment later that night as we returned from dinner. I took her hand and said, “I'm spending the night. Her “yes” was a whisper, a secret just for me, and we practically fell out of the car, a current of anticipation pulling us toward her door, up the stairs, and straight into the sanctuary of her bedroom.“Siri, play my C playlist.” She said immediately we got into the bedroom.A moment of silence, then a slow, percussive sultry rhythm began to pulse through the room, a sound that felt like a physical touch. She began to undress me. Her fingers were deft and sure on the buttons of my shirt, pushing the fabric from my shoulders. She unbuckled my belt, the leather sliding through the loops with a soft hiss, then worked the button and zipper of my pants. But then she stopped. She didn't touch me. Not really. Her knuckles brushed my stomach as she tugged my briefs down, freeing my cock into the cool air. I was already fully, achingly hard,

SHANE The elevator doors slid open with a muted chime, as I stepped out onto the executive floor of Blackwood Marketing and walked down to my office. Clara looked up from her desk the second I walked in; alert, always efficient.“Good morning, Mr. Blackwood,” she greeted with a polite smile.“Morning,” I said, shrugging off my coat and handing it to her. “Any urgent messages?”“Just the usual, three from the Singapore team, one from the legal department regarding the partnership agreement, and a reminder that your meeting with Mr. Kramer from Vantage Global is at eleven.”“Right.” I nodded and kept walking toward my office, the familiar rhythm of my day taking shape before I’d even had coffee. When I stepped inside, the first thing that greeted me was the smell of fresh leather and paper. My office was sleek, modern, but impersonal glass walls, muted tones, clean lines. It reflected everything my life had become lately: controlled, efficient, and utterly devoid of warmth.I dropped m

SHANE It was noon already, and the boardroom felt unusually stifling today. The air-conditioning hummed low in the background, yet the heat of tension clung to the atmosphere. I sat at the head of the long, oval table, half-listening to the tail end of the financial report being presented by our CFO.The Singapore merger had been a triumph; months of work condensed into a few sentences of acknowledgment. The figures projected on the screen were impressive: expansion forecasts, international collaborations, stock growth. The room buzzed with approval. When the CFO wrapped up, I leaned back in my chair, ready for the usual round of congratulations and strategic suggestions. And indeed, they came, one after another, polite applause, murmurs of “Well done, Mr. Blackwood.”Then came the clearing of a throat.A deliberate sound that announces trouble.I shifted my gaze toward Leigh Thompson, the recently elected chairman of the board. His sharp eyes gave him a patriarchal air, though he w

SHANE I moved effortlessly through the crowd with my arm resting lightly on Cathy’s waist as we exchanged pleasantries with acquaintances. Cathy was officially my woman again, and I took her along to events now. The reception was a grand celebration for one of my late father’s friends. The ballroom buzzed with laughter and conversation, the hum of voices blending seamlessly with the soft melody from the live band. Cathy, ever the perfect socialite, was completely in her element, flashing dazzling smiles, offering light-hearted laughs, and keeping conversations flowing with practiced ease.I played along, nodding in the right places, chuckling when appropriate, but my mind wasn’t fully on the festivities. I would’ve much rather been in my study at home, or just relaxing. Then, across the room, I heard a familiar voice call my name.“Shane, a moment?”I turned and spotted Donovan Pierce, one of my father’s longtime younger business associates, weaving through the crowd towards me. His

CARRIE I gazed down at the tiny bundle in my arms, my heart swelling with a kind of love I had never known before. Leonard Mathew Dalton. My son. My world had finally arrived. I had named him Leonard after my late Dad and Mathew was the name I have always loved. His soft breaths were steady, his little fingers curling around mine as he slept. He had been born just a few weeks ago, filling a void in my heart I hadn’t even realized was still there. The moment I held him for the first time, everything else had faded; my heartbreak, my past, even the pain I had endured bringing him into the world. Now, as I sat in the nursery, rocking him gently, I couldn’t help but marvel at how much Leo resembled his dad. The resemblance was uncanny, he even had the same birthmark Shane had under his jaw.“Well, I shouldn’t be surprised,” I told myself. The Blackwood gene had always been strong; most of the family looked alike.Carl had been overjoyed when I gave birth, fussing over me and Leo like a

ANDERS The meeting finally wrapped up with Emmett’s usual closing remarks about growth strategies and sponsorship expansions. I leaned back in my chair, stretching my neck slightly. The meeting had gone beyond the time I expected, it was one of those strategy sessions that left your mind buzzing with numbers and possibilities but as I glanced at my wristwatch, a slow smile tugged at my lips.Five minutes to five. Perfect.I really wanted to see her again. Carrie.I told myself I only wanted to check in on her, to make sure she was doing okay after the nursery setup. But if I was being honest with myself, that wasn’t the full truth. I liked being around her. I liked the calm she carried, even with everything she’d been through. I liked the way her laughter softened the air, the way her eyes lit up when she talked about her baby, or her work, or anything that meant something to her.I’d seen her smile more often lately, and that did something to me: something I couldn’t quite explain,
