LOGINCronous, busy as he is, is constantly thinking of Zaria. While inside his office, he keeps dozing off onto the distance outside his office window. “Sir?” his company secretary uttered for the fifth time and Cronous’ head snapped back. He sighed deeply and nodded his head.
“Keep an eye on him, report any suspicious activities he may commit.” His voice stern, cold.
His secretary scrunched up his nose and inhaled sharply. His serious face slowly faded and was replaced with a playful smirk. “Is it odd to say that you're acting weird today?” he muttered before sharply inhaling.
Cronous raised an eyebrow and glared at him. “Your point is?” he asked with annoyance.
“Come on, I'm your friend! Tell me what's new!” he answered in anticipation. The secretary, a man with brown hair and eyes, has been by Cronous’ side since college.
“Fuck off, Luca.” Cronous sat on his chair and started checking reports piled up on his desk.
Luca ran his fingers in his hair and walked closer. “Come on, just tell me!” Cronous shifted his eyes towards him and sighed.
“I have a… pet,” he answered and Luca stared in disbelief.
“A pet?” he repeated.
Cronous nodded slowly and pursed his lips. “Yes…” he answered, sounding more like a question.
“Why would you ever own a pet?” he questioned, again baffled with what Cronous said.
“It's cute and docile. So far, frightened and shy but that's bound to change soon, right? Actually, it's kind of feisty too,” he answered before pushing his desk and standing up. Luca backed away, thinking he was about to reprimand him.
“I'm leaving today,” Cronous added and his secretary’s eyes widened. With all the tasks today, he can't afford to go.
“I'm going to tend to my cute and docile pet.”
He grabbed his coat and rushed outside his office. “Wait–” Luca tried to argue but he was already gone. He went on the floor and screamed in annoyance. “Fuck you, Cronous!” he shouted as he laid on the office floor.
When Cronous reached the elevator, he suddenly saw the man he despised, Clyde, along with other employees. He stepped inside and there was cold air between the two of them. Like a snake and a lion, predators are in an uncomfortable position.
“The meeting's over, why are you still at my building?” he muttered in annoyance.
“I'm about to leave. Why are you leaving YOUR building early?” Clyde hissed back.
“A pet.” The elevator door opened. “A cute and docile one,” he added before stepping out. He looked back at the people in the elevator and they all looked confused, including Clyde.
He flashed a playful smirk before walking away.
ZARIA, staring at the television mindlessly watching a movie, was interrupted by Sebastian. “Refreshments?” He handed her a drink and she nodded her head.
“It seemed you've been working here for a long time,” she suddenly said to spark conversation.
“It's not that I'm calling you old—” she realized how her words sounded, and the man chuckled.
“I've been working for the Fauler family since his father hired me. I was his father's secretary, and now his.” He looked at a far distance as if he was recalling something.
“Well, I'm more useless now since he already hired a younger and stronger kid as the company secretary,” he said with a chuckle.
“So you've seen him as a child?” He nodded his head.
“Ms. Zaria, he may look like a foul beast but his heart is also frail. Remember that,” he said with a faint smile and she nodded her head slowly, acting like she actually understood.
They both heard footsteps coming from behind. “Stop chatting with her and do what you usually do around the house.” Cronous unbuttoned his suit and tossed it to Sebastian. The man bowed and left the room.
He walked towards the woman sitting on the sofa whom he had waited to come back to and patted her head. “I've missed you,” he uttered with raw emotions in his voice and she didn't know what to say.
He sat down on the couch next to her and relaxed his body. “‘Cronous…” she whispered while hesitating.
He turned towards her with both his eyebrows raised. Like a puppy ready to listen to a command. “They might start looking for me, they don't know where I am,” she said with a sigh.
“You don't have to mind any of them, you're with me now,” he answered in a stern tone.
She sighed again and stayed silent for a moment. “Clyde might start looking for me,” she muttered and his jaw tightened.
Clyde.
Clyde.
Clyde.
That irritating name makes his blood boil just from her saying it. Yet, he kept his composure.
“Have you met him?” she asked with mixed emotions in her eyes, her eyebrows twitching ever so slightly.
He looked at her with his jaw clenched, his eyes staring deeply in her eyes. He smiled gently and shook his head.
“No,” he lied.
Zaria took his answer to heart and nodded her head. He placed his hand on hers and gently stroked it.
They sat there in silence.
Both of them had thoughts they wanted to say but couldn't.
“No man, woman, or thing in this world would ever hurt you as long as you're with me.” Zaria gazed upon Cronous who was staring at her with longing eyes. She wants to answer, to reciprocate, yet no words came out of her mouth.
She moved her hands away from him and crossed her arms together. “Thank you,” she simply replied.
Cronous sighed, knowing her hesitance towards him. He's irritated and impatient yet he cannot force her to accept him again. “I called a doctor and dietician to nurse you back to health. Be a darling and get better,” he requested as he tucked her hair behind her ear.
“You don't mind me watching the show with you, right?” Zaria completely forgot that the television was on and playing a movie. She nodded her head and they both sat there in close proximity, their bodies barely touching while Zaria’s head rested on his shoulder, slowly falling asleep as the movie progressed.
Zaria held onto her painful wrist as she stepped back and left the balcony. Her face twisted with pain yet she held on. She looked around in confusion, there were massive hallways, and she forgot the way back to the main hall.“Wait–” She ignored him while she searched around the area.“Zaria, wait–” He pulled her by her waist and pushed her against the wall. She breathed heavily, her chest rising and falling rapidly as her eyes looked up with rage.“What do you want?” she asked while his jaw clenched. His eyes softened while his arms were keeping her in place. He scanned her face, a long time since he last saw her beautiful face. “I don’t want to talk to you, Clyde.” Her teeth gritted in anger.
“We do not need to attend if you don’t want to.” Zaria turned around and saw Cronous wearing a dark navy blue suit, matching her navy mermaid dress filled with small rhinestones that shine when the light hits her body, with an open back that shows her slim figure, hugging onto her shape. She held his hand and squeezed it. “It’s alright. Being hidden just keeps the rumors hotter,” she answered. His body scanned the front of her dress, a low neckline that emphasizes the shape of her chest. “You look gorgeous. Your friend did a great job styling your dress,” he complimented and she blushed. Zaria looked in the mirror, her red hair stealing the scene. The navy blue makes her hair stand out even more, like water and flame. Cronous stood behind her and kissed her shoulder. “I really want to go with you,” he whispered. They’ve decided to go on separate times since rumors would only get worse if they were seen with each other. He was hesitant, but for her sake, he reluctantly agreed. “I’l
CLYDE has been burying himself with work, haunted by Zaria's cold and indifferent gaze. He still feels the shivers down his spine upon seeing her outside the hotel. May it be guilt, anger, or frustration… He was feeling it in every agonizing moment. He fidgeted in his seat before finally breaking. He slammed his hands against the hard wood desk before standing up and grabbing his coat. People shifted in their seats as he walked passed. “I'll be there soon,” he told someone over the phone. By the time he arrived at the location, the park had already been cleared of guests apart from two. He walked slowly towards them, as they held a small dog on a leash. “It's been a while… Have you heard what your daughter has been doing lately?” They turned around to face Clyde. They forced a smile while the dog kept tugging on its leash.“Haven't seen your dog in a while, hmm?” He bent down and grabbed onto its leash. He looked up at the couple with a cold conniving smile. He lifted the dog by
“It’s so great to have you back,” Zaria uttered with teary eyes as she hugged her long time friend, Dianne. After she returned to the country, the first thing she did was visit Zaria at the mansion.Dianne looked at the huge mansion. Despite entering, you still could not tell where the mansion ended. “So you still ended up with your first love, huh?” she said teasingly, a smile plastered across her face.“It’s a long story…” Zaria brushed her arm shyly.“When you told me you’re coming back, I was confused.” Zaria laughed slightly. She looked at her friend who she hadn't seen for a long time. She simply shrugged, tiredness evident from the bags under her eyes hidden by makeup.
The ride home was silent, both of them didn’t talk until they reached home. Zaria could still picture Clyde’s shocked face upon seeing her outside the hotel. “Would you like to rest? I still need to do some paper works in my office,” he said and she nodded her head.“Sure, I’m going to take a bath anyways,” she answered as they parted ways after reaching upstairs. When she returned to her room, she sighed heavily at how their date unfolded. Exhausted, she grabbed her towel and headed to the bathroom. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and remembered the woman who had a close resemblance to her. “That lying son of a bitch,” she whispered in annoyance. She hopped in the shower to cool her head.“I’m glad I left him… What a douche.” There was a hint of
“You’ve been acting so odd since yesterday,” Zaria told Cronous while they were in a car and he chuckled. He held her hand and kissed it gently before pulling into the parking lot of the restaurant he was taking her to dinner with. Zaria wore a blue mini-dress and heels while Cronous wore a white polo and blue pants. They were sitting outside where they could enjoy the view of the city. “Thank you for accepting my date invitation,” he said with a smile. “Of course… I heard from your secretary you were planning this for quite a while,” she answered and his smile dropped. “Some day I will get rid of him,” he joked and she slapped his hand. The only reason she found out was because Luca blurted it out earlier while fixing Cronous’ schedule. His phone buzzed and she saw that his wallpaper was them kissing in the rain from the photo that circulated online. “Why do you have that as your wallpaper?” she asked suspiciously while eyeing it. He looked at her and showed her the full screen.
The gala event where wealthy sponsors and investors were gathering, Cronous Fauler was not one to entertain guests yet he needed to be there. His face slightly frowned, his gaze irritated by the sight of the clothes he was wearing. A blue suit that perfectly disgus
The night after the picnic, she thought everything was going normal. The night sky, and the cold breeze were the same as every other day yet she couldn't help but be anxious. An unknown number suddenly called her phone yet no one on the other line talked. Strange, she was sitting on her bed side
The scent of roses filled the air as the breeze brushed against Zaria’s skin. She looked around in the garden, butterflies flying around and landing on the thorn-filled bed of roses. Her floor length white dress dragged on the green field, slightly shining from the sunshine. In a far distance, she
(Flashback)“Baby…” Zaria whispered lovingly as she kissed Cronous’ cheeks. He looked at her doe eyes shining brightly under the sunlight.
