Malric’s Pov

I am going mad.

Watching her press those soft lips to my son's cheek, Caleb’s cheek… I feel something inside me break and re-form into a thing that only knows hunger. It is ugly and bright and it wants to bury the world and keep her buried with it.

I promised myself I would stop. I swore the feeling would die. Calm would come back. I was a fool to think I could bargain with this heat. I am a fool for standing in the shadows while she plucks the harp and smiles like the sun belongs to her.

Maybe I am a psycho. Maybe that is what this is called: obsession. Delilah. Her name tastes like iron and honey at once.

Tommy whimpers beside me, all chains and torn cloth. He thinks pleading can erase what he did. He thinks ignorance is an excuse. He doesn't understand the language of disrespect that runs through me like wildfire.

He shakes his head. Sweat slicks his temple. He says, I didn't know she was your mate. I'm sorry. I didn't mean—

Verret's PovI should not be here. Not like this. Not watching her. But She moves like sunlight trapped in motion, unaware, unbothered, untouchable. Every step she takes, every flick of her hand, every glance down at her work, it pierces me. I'm already beyond reason. Already... sliding into madness. It's unfair. It's impossible.Delilah. My Delilah. She doesn't know I'm here. She never will. At least, not yet. Not until I've... until I've understood what it is about her that makes me lose control.I shift slightly, crouching in the shadow behind the high stone pillars of the veranda. My breath barely makes a sound. My eyes, the ones that never sleep, that never rest...follow her every movement. The way she tilts her head while reading. The delicate curve of her lips when she's lost in thought. The way her hair catches the morning sun, glowing like it belongs to something divine.I clench my fists. I'm losing it, I admit, bitterly, to no one but myself. I pace, slow, deliberate, keepi

Delilah's Pov "I belong to someone else."The words came out of me before I even had the chance to swallow them back. And the moment they left my mouth, Verret stopped. Completely. It was like the entire room froze with him.He didn't blink. He didn't move.He just stared.Head slightly tilted... eyes narrowed in that strange, entertained way he had, like he had just discovered a new species and wasn't sure if he wanted to study it or devour it.I tilted my head back instinctively, mirroring him, even though I didn't understand why.A silent staring contest. My heartbeat thudded painfully against my ribs. His expression was unreadable... but the intensity in his gaze was a lot-too much-dragging heat up my neck and making it impossible to look away. Finally, I swallowed hard."Why are you looking at me like that?"Verret's lips curved, slow and lazy. "Nothing. I'm just thinking... you said you belong to someone." His voice dropped low, a dark hum. "Interesting. But I won't argue with

Delilah's PovAlyssa had been chattering nonstop since morning, trying everything she could to pull me out of the fog sitting heavy in my chest. She and Reyna were like two determined healers diagnosing sadness and prescribing laughter as the cure."Delilah," Alyssa said, her eyes twinkling, "if you really want to recover fast, you need to do something that makes you feel alive again. Like...buying new dresses, for example. You know, bright colors, silky fabric, something that says I'm back, bitches."Reyna snorted, almost spilling her tea. "Or maybe she should just rest and stop thinking about people who don't deserve her time."I laughed softly, though my heart wasn't entirely in it. "You two sound like an odd pair of therapists."Alyssa winked. "We're the best kind-unlicensed but effective."They went on with their jokes, teasing each other, reminding me of how warmth felt. I smiled, even laughed once or twice, but my gaze kept slipping toward the door. Every time footsteps echoed

Malric's PovCelia's chambers were quiet. Too quiet. The scent of lavender oil still lingered in the air, faint but soothing, a fragrance she always loved. Yet now it only made me restless. She sat by the window, her hair spilling over her shoulders in soft curls, the moonlight catching strands of gold in the dark. For a moment, I just stood there, watching her - breathing in the silence between us.When she turned, her eyes softened. "You came," she said quietly."I did," I replied, crossing the room until I stood a few feet from her. "I heard you were awake. I wanted to make sure you were all right."She studied me, her lips curling into a fragile smile. "What even happened, Malric?"I hesitated, running a hand through my hair. "I don't know," I lied smoothly. "They're trying to figure it out. The healers, Verret... everyone."Celia sighed and nodded, her fingers tracing idle patterns on the table. "Everything will be fine again. It has to be. It always gets fine again, right?"I di

Delilah's PovThe first thing I felt was the weight in my chest.A dull, throbbing ache that made it hard to even breathe. Then the voices-muffled at first, like whispers underwater.I tried to move, but pain shot through every part of me. My eyes fluttered open to soft, muted light. I was lying on a bed, my bed...but everything felt... different."Delilah?" Reyna's voice trembled as she leaned closer, her face etched with worry. "You're awake!"I blinked, confused. "Ouch-my chest... I can't breathe."Reyna immediately pressed a hand to my shoulder, her eyes glistening. "Don't move too fast. You've been out for three days.""Three-what?" My voice came out hoarse, barely above a whisper. "Three days?""Yes," she said quietly. "You scared us half to death. You and Celia both."Celia.The name sent a jolt of unease through me. Images of that day flashed in my head-the convulsions, the blinding light, the scream that wasn't entirely mine. Before I could ask anything, Alyssa suddenly stood

Delilah's PovThe garden was quiet again.Just me, the scent of roses, and the faint echo of Islode's heels clicking against the marble path as she stormed away. I didn't chase her. I just stood there, staring at the fading trail of her perfume, trying to calm the storm inside me.My chest burned with anger, pain, everything mixing together until I couldn't tell which was which anymore. My fingers were trembling slightly, not because I was scared, but because I was tired.Tired of defending myself.Tired of pretending that every cut didn't hurt. The breeze moved softly through my hair, brushing over my face like some invisible comfort. I exhaled slowly and tilted my head to the sky. The moon was faint, barely a silver line, but it was there. Then I heard the sound of footsteps again. My heart gave a painful thud.I didn't need to turn around to know who it was."Malric."His name slipped past my lips like a secret I didn't mean to tell.He stopped a few steps away from me, his presenc
