Chapter 7

I stared at my boss, waiting for him to tell me he was joking but he did not. “You have to be kidding, I’m COO of Eternity Limited?”

“Hell, yeah!” My boss laughed cheerily and I joined him.

“How did that even happen? I don’t think I’m even qualified.”

“Oh, shut up. You and I know that you are beyond qualified. To be honest, I had planned to give you that corner office as a gift but the CEO had different and better plans. So congratulations!” He smiled.

A lot of the employees walked to me and congratulated me and after half an hour, I was up in my office packing my things up with the help of my boss.

“You know you don’t have to help me do this, right?” I chuckled as I placed the small picture frames on my desk into the box.

“I wouldn’t miss this for the world. Lisa, I have always admired you. You are hardworking, humble, and respectful. I confess that I don’t always speak to you all in the calmest manner here at work, but it’s all because I want you all to be better people.” My boss held another box and placed it on the desk after he had filled it up with some of my other things.

“Now look at you. You not only sealed a deal with a billionaire but you are also about to be COO of a multi-billion company. I’m more than proud of you, Lisa.” He added.

Someone suddenly knocked at the glass door and when we looked in that direction, it was one of the associates. “Sorry to interrupt but someone is here to see you two.”

“Can you not see that we’re busy?” My boss's voice was firm and fear swirled in the lady’s eyes.

“Sir, it’s someone important. I believe that he’s a client.” The tentative lady replied.

My boss looked at me and I shrugged. “Let him up then.” He informed the lady and she nodded once and left.

“Who do you think it is?” I asked my boss and he sighed. “Probably Braxton. I had a meeting with him an hour ago but I canceled it because I had to be here when you arrived at work.”

“Braxton, as in the guy who wants to build a glass estate?”

My boss laughed lowly and sat in one of the chairs in front of my desk. “Yup, that’s the one.”

“He might be pissed.”

“Yeah, but he would get over it. He always does.”

The associate soon returned and she had a small frown on her face. “The client said that you two should be the ones to come to him since he is a newly signed client.”

“Holy crap, it’s Bradley.” My boss stood up and adjusted his jacket. “Why didn’t you say that it was Bradley?” He asked the lady but did not allow her to speak. “Just leave. Let him know that we would be down in a minute.”

I grabbed one of my boxes and placed the smaller one that my boss helped me fill up on top of it. We then used the elevator and in no time we were in the lobby.

“Where is he?” I asked the associate who was standing at the receptionist’s desk. “Where is the client?”

“He’s right outside.” She replied softly, and we followed her advice and exited the building. When we were out, we saw a very expensive car parked out in front of the building. A man with a good build stood next to the car. It was not the CEO.

“Where is Bradley?” My boss asked fearlessly.

The man was wearing a suit and had a wire in his ear that made him look like he worked with the CIA or FBI. He gently knocked on the window of the car and it rolled down in seconds.

“I’m here for my COO,” Bradley smirked, and my boss began to laugh. He got down from the car and gestured for his guard to help me with my boxes.

When the weight of the boxes was off my hands. I felt more relaxed. My handbag kept vibrating due to my phone. I could bet that when I got home I would see almost a hundred missed calls and dozens of texts from people because of that video that I accidentally posted.

I did feel bad a bit because I had not told my grandma about me calling off the wedding and engagement yet. She was really excited about me getting married and I just did not want to bring her spirits down.

I was going to tell her, but I needed more time to process it all myself.

“She’s all yours, Bradley.” My boss shook the CEO’s hand. “And your projects are in good hands. We would build you one hell of a nightclub!”

“I’m banking on that,” Bradley replied, and then glanced at me. He broke the handshake and approached me. “A one-night stand.” He said the safe word and my eyes widened.

What was he doing? My boss was standing right here. I was not about to talk about the supernatural here!

“What are you doing?” I chuckled nervously as I stared into his playful eyes.

He brought his mouth close to my ear and whispered, “I’m just playing.” He then drew away and walked to the car and opened the door for me, “After you, Ms. Morgan.”

I hugged my boss, bid him goodbye, and entered the fancy car. “Where are we going?”

Bradley entered the car and sat next to me. His cologne took over the car and it smelt really good; almost mesmerizing. “We’re going to your new workplace, Eternity Limited.”

“Oh, okay. And what about my car?”

“I would have someone bring it.” He replied as the car began to move. “It’s the blue one, am I right?”

“That’s the only one I have.” I gave him a look, and he nodded slowly.

“Your car should be the last thing on your mind. You should be more concerned about how drastically your life has changed.”

“You’re the one who changed my life.” I pursed my lips and folded my hands on my lap as my handbag sat between the CEO and me. “You did not give me any real choice.”

“First of all, I was talking about you being promoted to COO. And second, I did give you a choice.”

I scoffed lowly. “You didn’t give me a choice, you gave me an ultimatum! It was either death or the other. My life was difficult enough, you only made it worse.”

A look of hurt crossed Bradley’s face for a quick second and he sighed. “You’re right. And I’m sorry.”

The rest of the car ride to his company was quiet and the only sounds were the soft hum of the car engine and the vibrating of my phone in my handbag. I was still ignoring my phone and I knew that Mark would try to reach out too.

He seriously thought that I had forgiven him after the moment we shared this morning but that was just a moment of weakness for me. You can not blame me, I loved that man for as long as I could remember.

He was a huge part of my life and cutting him out of my life even when he deserved it felt so painful.

The car finally came to a stop and the doors were opened by someone outside. I was the first to get down, followed by the CEO. I hung my handbag on my arm and Bradley adjusted his suit.

“Oh my god…” I gasped when I saw the building. I could not believe that I thought Powerhouse Designs had the best architectural designs in the city, but this building was jaw-dropping. It rose to the sky in glory and luxury radiated from it.

“You like it?” I heard Bradley chuckle.

“It’s really impressive.” I was honest with him even though I was a bit pissed at him. He did not have the right to bite me that night. I did not care about the one-night stand. That was something that maybe would never happen again.

But what I did care about was the fact that he chose to make me a vampire. The moment he bit me, he had already made a decision for me. And I hate that he took away that decision from me.

I followed him into the building and everyone stared at us. We took the elevator to the top floor and he showed me my office. It was huge! “Wow,” I laughed happily.

This was what I had always wanted. Not a fancy and huge office or a big-time title. But to be able to see my hard work pay off. I had worked my butt off to even be where I was at PowerHouse Designs.

It was always my dream for me to reap the fruit of my labor and I was finally seeing that.

“Since today is your first day, I won’t burden you with actual work. I’m going to give you a few minutes to settle in, and then I would be back to give you a tour of the building, and lastly introduce you to everyone, including the board.” Bradley gave me a weak smile, and I immediately felt bad for how I talked to him in the car.

He made a mistake by biting me without my consent. But he was actually a really good man. He was very professional and respectful. He was the reason that I could even be able to smile and find joy in the midst of me finding out about Mark cheating on me with Nora.

I walked to my desk and I placed my handbag on it. The view from this office was insane. I could see the city’s skyline perfectly. It felt like I was on top of the world. It was beautiful. It was a dream come through.

My parents may have given up and left me, and that has still affected me up to this day but I did not let that define me nor did I let it limit me from going after all I have ever dreamed of.

My dad may have not gotten me that doll. But my granny did. And I could now afford to buy a hundred of them.

A knock sounded on the glass door and when I looked in that direction, I saw Bradley. “Are you ready for your tour?”

I let out a sigh and then realized that I was crying. I wiped the tears from my face and the CEO frowned as he approached me. He had a look of concern on his face.

When he reached me, he touched my shoulder gently. “Are you okay? We don’t have to do the tour today. We can do it whenever you want.” He looked at me with genuine care.

I smiled sadly and then replied, “I’m okay. I’m just really happy.” I told him the truth.

“Oh.” He kept his hand on my shoulder for a few seconds more and then withdrew it. “So you’re still up for the tour?”

“Yeah, of course.” I smiled, revealing my teeth.

We took the next couple of hours touring the building. Bradley introduced me to senior partners and associates. And he also made a huge announcement about me being the COO, and it was one of the happiest days of my life.

After everything, Bradley personally showed me what I would be doing as a COO. We spent the whole day being normal. And he did not once bring up anything about fangs, vampires, or supernaturals.

When night came, he escorted me downstairs and even gave me his jacket, insisting that I wear it because it was cold. I wore it and he led me to my car that was brought here.

When I got into the car, Bradley bid me goodbye and walked back to the building. As soon as I started the engine, I heard a chilling voice that almost gave me a heart attack. “Hello, dear. I’d suggest that you press on the gas and drive us out of here.”

I then felt something hard against the back of my head and I knew that it was a gun.
