Mr. Moxin

I watch out the window as the limo drives. My heart is beating out of my chest, and I feel clammy but mostly scared.  The limo climbs the biggest hill in the city and stops at the top. I look out the window and take a deep breath, 6 months ago this is where my journey began, and now may be where it may end.

Bert gets out of the car and opens my door, he reaches for my hand and smiles, “Come on, I’ll come up with you. I need to refill my coffee cup anyway.” I can hear the coffee in his cup swooshing, so I know that’s a lie, but it’s sweet he is trying to comfort me.

I smile and we walk to the building doors, “Take a deep breath. Mr. Moxin is nice, he’s just strange,”

he admits, “But in a good way.”

I laugh nervously and Bert opens the door for me. We walk to the elevator. The doors open and we step inside.

A flashback hits me of when I first came here. When my life changed for the better. I had been approached by women when I was waitressing. She came in often and I ended up telling her about my struggles. She told me she had a solution and gave me her card. I called later and set up an interview.

I had to call a cab to even get here back then. My whole demeanor was different. I was a scared little girl with no confidence. Now I hold my head high and have even gained balance, literally. This job has changed my entire life for the better. Why am I so scared? This isn’t me anymore. I have gained wings; I won’t let someone cut them! I am ready to fly!

I straighten my shoulders and Bert smiles, “Are you ok?” he asks.

I nod and smile, “Yes, just remembering who I am.” I admit.

He chuckles and nods, “Yes, there’s the girl I have watched grow.” I smile and the elevator stops. The doors open and the receptionist greets us, “Hi, Raven. Mr. Moxin is expecting you.” She points to do the door.

I muster all my courage and walk toward it. It’s open and I can hear him inside on the phone. He has a thick German accent and I put on my best smile as I walk into his office.

Mr. Moxin looks up at me and I gasp; he is an older man but one you could tell was a fox in his younger days. He is wearing a very expensive suit. I can tell just by the fabric and the way it shines, “I’ll call you right back.” His accent is thick, and he smiles at me, hanging up the phone. He walks toward me, extending his hand, “Raven, correct?”

I giggle and nod, “Yes, that is my professional name.”

He holds my hand for a minute longer, “Yes, that’s how I know you too. It’s how we keep everything safe. We have double names,” He winks, “Like Mr. Moxin,” he teases.

I laugh nervously and he points to the chair in front of his desk. I sit down and sigh, “Actually, that’s why I am here.” I admit.

He looks at me confused and I pull the letter out of my bag and hand it to him. He looks at the front and realizes my real name is on the envelope and eyes me. He then retrieves the letter, and his eyes bulge just like Bert’s, “Where did this come from?”

“It was on my dorm room door yesterday morning, but I just opened it a few hours ago. I honestly forgot about it. I have so much on my schedule,” I begin but he cuts me off.

“We have never had an escort blackmailed here before.” He admits, “Is this the only one? Have they made any demands?”

I shake my head and he stares blankly as he thinks, “I want to know when the next letter comes and what it says. We will figure out who this person is!”

My breath hitches in my throat, “You’ll think they’ll be another letter?”

Mr. Moxin chuckles, “There were no demands in this one. There will definitely be another. I suspect it will be much worse than this one. Prepare yourself.”

I nod but I feel like I’m floating.

“You need to keep working. I am going to put extra detail on you. This person obviously knows where you work, live, and go to school.” My mouth opens, “It’s in your file, but professional names are preferred and to be used, any ideas who this could be? Have you made any enemies?”

I shake my head, “No. I am one of the poorest students on campus. EVERYONE knows that. I don’t understand why they would go after me.”

Mr. Moxin grins, “Because you are popular. You are one of our highest sought escorts and you get paid in the top tier.”

My mouth opens in surprise, and he nods, “You didn’t know?”

I chuckle nervously, shaking my head no and he nods, “Exactly why we are going to help you catch this evil person. You are an asset here, Raven. We want to keep you. When our clients are happy, the company and I are happy and that’s what counts.”

I smile and he stands. I follow suit and he walks me to his office door, “Check your phone. I understand you have been stressed but you have FOUR requests tonight. Pick one. You shouldn’t notice the extra detail. It’s their job to be invisible and remember, call me when the next letter comes. They will leave clues eventually and they will be caught.”

I nod and he smiles, “Thank you dear for the lovely meeting. Have a good night.”

He closes the office door behind me, and Bert is waiting and talking to the receptionist, “How did it go?” he asks.

“Good, I think,” I admit.

He smiles and pushes the elevator button and we both step in, “Mr. Moxin is a great guy. He’ll follow through on helping you, just be patient.” I sigh but nod and the elevator stops. The doors open and we walk back to the limo.

I look toward the street and he opens the limo door for me, “Just be careful and watch your back. A blackmailer is generally a person you trust.” He says with empathy.

He closes the door and I pull out my phone. There are four text messages and I open each one, deciding which I will take tonight.

I recognize one immediately and smile; it’s Mr. Landa. Maybe a good orgasm will ease my stress level?

But there’s also a new one tonight and it’s paying the highest I have ever been offered.
