~ Thirteen Years Later ~

“Sire, all preparations for the hunt have been completed. Is there anything else you need?”

My beta, Jasper, bows to me before standing to meet my eyes. He only speaks formally like this when I am in the presence of the council, which unfortunately I am. Otherwise, he is my only family and friend.

“No, Jasper, that will be all.”

He bows again and moves to stand on my right and slightly behind me. My gamma, Dirk, continues with what he had been saying before me and the royal council.

“My king, as I was saying, the rogues attacked the south border and the Golden Crescent pack. We have managed to stop the attack before all was lost, but they destroyed four homes entirely and killed ten wolves. Nine from the pack and one of our own.”

I growl lowly, hating the pain these bastards have put innocents through.

“What of the survivors? What plans do we have set for those affected by these attacks? I want these rogues stopped. How dare they tread on my land and attack my people.”

I practically snarl, it’s been getting more and more difficult to keep my rage from claiming me. Everyone in the room has tensed, sensing my powerful aura. Dirk speaks up.

“My lord, we have set up a camp away from

The border in the neighboring pack, they did not hesitate to help set up the survivors with food and shelter and other necessities. We have stationed soldiers all around the pack for protection and are sending supplies to help as we speak. There is a good couple of healers there, so any wounded are being treated. As for the destruction and damages, we have other packs lending aid in helping to rebuild and repair. Our best scouts are following the scents of the rogues. If we can figure out their patterns, learn why they are doing this, we can make a plan to attack rather than maintain an offensive.”

I appraise my gamma. There is a reason that I chose Dirk as my gamma and Jasper as my beta. Not only are we friends, but I can trust them with my very soul. Their intellect and cunning as a team make upholding my law and winning my battles and strategizing lethal.

“Very well, it seems I hardly have to give too much insight into this. Keep me apprised, Dirk. I want to know when we can begin taking action and I want to know those affected by these attacks are being taken care of.”

Dirk bows and moves to stand on my left and slightly behind me. I look around at the elders of my council. They are my advisors, a team built to bring things to my attention that I may have overlooked and to remind me of old laws and traditions. They’re a group of bores and, most times, I wish I could be free of them.

“What next do we need to discuss?”

Elder Radcliffe stands slowly and bows before speaking.

“My lord, after the hunt, there needs to be actions taken to find you a mate. Chosen or Goddess given. You are thirty-two and we need a queen and an heir-“

I growl loudly and slowly stand.

“Elder Radcliffe, I understand the need for a queen and heir. You make a point of reminding me at every meeting. You will do well, to back off now instead of bringing it to my attention at every turn. I will seek a mate as is needed of me, but you will not push me any further, unless you’d like to feel my claws.”

He shivers and shows his fear a moment, but remains standing.

“Yes, my king, I only bring it up as we are all concerned for your wellbeing as much as we are concerned for the kingdom. You and the rest of us know how being mateless affects a lycan.”

I decide to leave it at that and raise my hand.

“Enough, I have taken it into advisement and am bringing this meeting to a close. I have a hunt to lead.”

As everyone in the room rises and bows, I take my leave. My strides carry me quickly through the door and into the hall. I can hear the steps of gamma and beta on my heel. I growl a little bit as I walk, feeling the weight of needing a mate as well as the need to take care of my people on my shoulders. Jasper speaks up with a chuckle.

“Down boy, leave it for the boars. They’re annoying, but you have everything under control, more so than those idiots know.”

If he was anyone else, I’d have growled at him for speaking to me like he just did. Dirk speaks next.

“They are fools, what’s more important? Ensuring the safety of the people or finding a mate. Pick your poison.”

Jasper laughs and shakes his head.

“Both. A queen stabilizes things and brings a sense of wellbeing to the people and our king. While we also protect the people.”

I growl at this but Jasper speaks up again.

“Now now, I’m only playing devil’s advocate. You know I support you, Lev, neither Dirk or myself would ever doubt or question you.”

I sigh and pause to face them.

“I know. Thank you, my brothers. Let’s focus on the hunt and go from there.”

Once out in the courtyard of my estate, I face my pack and alphas visiting from other packs. I step forward and all turn to face me and bow.

“My people and Alphas from other lands. Welcome! Tonight, we come together to remember what has been lost, what has hurt us as a whole. Many here have felt this more keenly than others, but be assured no one feels it more so than I. I dedicate this hunt to you, my people, to the packs of this kingdom. Tonight, we hunt as one pack, no titles in this forest. We hunt together to bring food to our tables. With the bounty of the forest, we will send food to those suffering and we will celebrate and remember those taken into the goddess’ embrace too soon. We will honor them and we will take care of those left behind. Join me in this remembrance, in honoring our people! Let the hunt begin!”

With that, howls and cheers rise into the air. We shift and take off into the vast forest. The thrill of the hunt guiding our paws and our senses.

“G-Goddess! Levantus!”I gasp his name a moment before he rips open the corset top of my dress. My breasts now beared to him. He growls again as he pulls away to look. “Odessa…”He breathes my name like a prayer as he hovers over me now on the couch. I can feel his heart hammering beneath my palm. He trembles and lifts only slightly. “I… apologies… I do want this, but I don’t mean to rush… tell me to leave and I’ll go.” I tremble beneath him, listening to his words. He’s trying to hold back, though we have already gotten here. He wouldn’t dare go further without permission. I hesitate only a moment before I pull him down to me. “I accept you, Levantus… I accept what we can share.” The second I’m done speaking he’s on me. I gasp and groan as he kisses me fiercely. His nails rake down my thighs, lifting them so they’re surrounding his hips. Then one hand lifts so he can start groping my breast and play with my nipple. I moan and my back arches beneath him, feeling his hardness gr

  • Blind and Bound   Finally Alone - Odessa POV

After Crysta and the others leave, I realize that it is just Levantus and I. I’m still smiling a little bit because of the encounter. “Levi? Really?” I ask him and he growls, but it isn’t violent. I can sense his humor despite his frustration. “She’s obnoxious and didn’t last long. I apologize that you had to come face to face with that. Forget her, how was your day?”I keep smiling as he steps toward me and takes my hand. We can both feel sparks singing along our hands and up our arms. “Arius got to play with pups, it made his heart sing. He has not been allowed to experience that kind of carefree moment in a long time. It took him back to his happier den days. It was the best to hear his heart singing like that.” I admit to him and he squeezes my hand as we start walking. I’m hyper aware of how much Arius needed that kind of contact. Both of us have been without a pack for so long now. Levantus interrupts my thoughts. “I’m glad. You both deserve moments to heal your hearts and

  • Blind and Bound   City People - Odessa POV

I walk through the city, Dirk on my right and Arius on my left. Levantus is busy with the council and he has yet to bring me before then. He says he isn’t ready to let them poke and prod at me. For now, I’ll give him another day. Dirk speaks up from beside me with amusement. “How nice is it to be just walking around with no real purpose?”I roll my eyes and smile as I tilt my head in his direction. My mind is racing with things I need to do, but this reprieve has been good. “It feels like I’m wasting minutes and hours instead of doing something useful. Then again, it’s nice to be able to breathe for a minute and feel like I might fit in.”I admit to him while we walk. Arius bumps my side and makes me laugh a little bit. Dirk chuckles as well. “My lady, if you don’t mind my saying so, you probably could fit in anywhere. You’ve just let yourself believe that you weren’t allowed. I know this because I’ve met men who lived like you did. Horrible things happened to you, but it doesn’t

  • Blind and Bound   Radcliffe

The silver chains around my wrist, neck, and ankles prevent me from being able to feel my wolf or shift. I am weak from lack of food and my beating. Despite this, I am unbroken and I growl low, though weak. How did he know? How did he realize? It was no fault of my own, I’m sure of it. It’s her… it has to be that blind bitch. Somehow she was able to let the king know. Somehow she knew. She’s going to pay for what she did, I’ll find a way. My thoughts are interrupted by torchlight as a figure emerges from down the corridor and stops at my cell. A slow smile spreads across my face. “What took you so long? We have too much to lose, you have to get me out of here.”The clocked figure watches me before responding. “You are a fool to have gotten caught in the first place. Why should I release you?”The cloaked being asks me and makes me growl. “Because I have enough power to get what we need to end this abomination of a king. I am needed.”The cloaked figure laughs and it causes a col

  • Blind and Bound   Comforting a Beast - Odessa POV

I’m walking with Arius and Dirk, finding that I like the warmth of the sun and the smells of the gardens. Dirk had escorted me around the castle, talking about the different areas, and allowing my senses to learn of the space I’m in. For a while now, we have been walking in companionable silence. I’m not in the mood to talk, just to listen and let my senses observe my surroundings. Suddenly, Dirk tenses, Arius growls low and I can sense a shift in the air. Something or someone nearby is staring at us and growling. I’ve tensed and my nerves are screaming, but there’s something else. My lips part as I realize there’s a blazing, golden energy humming from something huge before me. I can sense his rage and his struggle. “Levantus…” I say softly and touch the top of Arius’ head. My eyes stare toward the glow. There’s a flicker when it hears my voice and a need. “Dirk, you and Arius leave us. I can handle this, but we need some privacy, it’ll be ok.” I stand completely still, sensin

  • Blind and Bound   The Council - Levantus POV

I sit in the council chamber with my chin resting on my fist. They argue amongst themselves over politics, things that are constantly trying to change, but old men and women can be stuck in their ways and old traditions. I should be listening to them, but my mind keeps getting drawn back to her. My mate. Everything about her calls to me, even my lycan howls in my mind to go to her. Yet, for now, I have to focus and remind myself I’ll be back with her soon. Despite this reminder, I can’t help furrowing my brow as I consider how she isn’t all in for our mate bond. Parts of her resist it, I assume because of her pain and past more than fear of me. So, I’ll earn her trust and help her past her fear. I tune in as the old ones begin talking about the impending dangers. They discuss having hear of the strange woman and her wolf. Radcliffe speaks directly to me and I growl low. “I hear this woman has taken the attention of our great king. How are we to be certain she is not an enemy in d
