“Sire, all preparations for the hunt have been completed. Is there anything else you need?” My beta, Jasper, bows to me before standing to meet my eyes. He only speaks formally like this when I am in the presence of the council, which unfortunately I am. Otherwise, he is my only family and friend. “No, Jasper, that will be all.” He bows again and moves to stand on my right and slightly behind me. My gamma, Dirk, continues with what he had been saying before me and the royal council. “My king, as I was saying, the rogues attacked the south border and the Golden Crescent pack. We have managed to stop the attack before all was lost, but they destroyed four homes entirely and killed ten wolves. Nine from the pack and one of our own.” I growl lowly, hating the pain these bastards have put innocents through. “What of the survivors? What plans do we have set for those affected by these attacks? I want these rogues stopped. How dare they tread on my land and attack my people.” I practically snarl, it’s been getting more and more difficult to keep my rage from claiming me. Everyone in the room has tensed, sensing my powerful aura. Dirk speaks up. “My lord, we have set up a camp away from The border in the neighboring pack, they did not hesitate to help set up the survivors with food and shelter and other necessities. We have stationed soldiers all around the pack for protection and are sending supplies to help as we speak. There is a good couple of healers there, so any wounded are being treated. As for the destruction and damages, we have other packs lending aid in helping to rebuild and repair. Our best scouts are following the scents of the rogues. If we can figure out their patterns, learn why they are doing this, we can make a plan to attack rather than maintain an offensive.” I appraise my gamma. There is a reason that I chose Dirk as my gamma and Jasper as my beta. Not only are we friends, but I can trust them with my very soul. Their intellect and cunning as a team make upholding my law and winning my battles and strategizing lethal. “Very well, it seems I hardly have to give too much insight into this. Keep me apprised, Dirk. I want to know when we can begin taking action and I want to know those affected by these attacks are being taken care of.” Dirk bows and moves to stand on my left and slightly behind me. I look around at the elders of my council. They are my advisors, a team built to bring things to my attention that I may have overlooked and to remind me of old laws and traditions. They’re a group of bores and, most times, I wish I could be free of them. “What next do we need to discuss?” Elder Radcliffe stands slowly and bows before speaking. “My lord, after the hunt, there needs to be actions taken to find you a mate. Chosen or Goddess given. You are thirty-two and we need a queen and an heir-“ I growl loudly and slowly stand. “Elder Radcliffe, I understand the need for a queen and heir. You make a point of reminding me at every meeting. You will do well, to back off now instead of bringing it to my attention at every turn. I will seek a mate as is needed of me, but you will not push me any further, unless you’d like to feel my claws.” He shivers and shows his fear a moment, but remains standing. “Yes, my king, I only bring it up as we are all concerned for your wellbeing as much as we are concerned for the kingdom. You and the rest of us know how being mateless affects a lycan.” I decide to leave it at that and raise my hand. “Enough, I have taken it into advisement and am bringing this meeting to a close. I have a hunt to lead.” As everyone in the room rises and bows, I take my leave. My strides carry me quickly through the door and into the hall. I can hear the steps of gamma and beta on my heel. I growl a little bit as I walk, feeling the weight of needing a mate as well as the need to take care of my people on my shoulders. Jasper speaks up with a chuckle. “Down boy, leave it for the boars. They’re annoying, but you have everything under control, more so than those idiots know.” If he was anyone else, I’d have growled at him for speaking to me like he just did. Dirk speaks next. “They are fools, what’s more important? Ensuring the safety of the people or finding a mate. Pick your poison.” Jasper laughs and shakes his head. “Both. A queen stabilizes things and brings a sense of wellbeing to the people and our king. While we also protect the people.” I growl at this but Jasper speaks up again. “Now now, I’m only playing devil’s advocate. You know I support you, Lev, neither Dirk or myself would ever doubt or question you.” I sigh and pause to face them. “I know. Thank you, my brothers. Let’s focus on the hunt and go from there.” Once out in the courtyard of my estate, I face my pack and alphas visiting from other packs. I step forward and all turn to face me and bow. “My people and Alphas from other lands. Welcome! Tonight, we come together to remember what has been lost, what has hurt us as a whole. Many here have felt this more keenly than others, but be assured no one feels it more so than I. I dedicate this hunt to you, my people, to the packs of this kingdom. Tonight, we hunt as one pack, no titles in this forest. We hunt together to bring food to our tables. With the bounty of the forest, we will send food to those suffering and we will celebrate and remember those taken into the goddess’ embrace too soon. We will honor them and we will take care of those left behind. Join me in this remembrance, in honoring our people! Let the hunt begin!” With that, howls and cheers rise into the air. We shift and take off into the vast forest. The thrill of the hunt guiding our paws and our senses.********** Thalia POV **********It’s tiring work, building up a spell and curse, reaching something long distance. It would be better if I was closer, but safer here. So, I spent the last three days preparing, building power, gathering all that was needed. It’s almost the right hour, three more hours and the moon will be at its peak. Three more hours and I’ll do what should have been done all those years ago. I smile as I continue focusing, taking the fresh items that had been brought to me per my list. It’s all just a matter of time. ********** Sego POV **********Thalia is on the move, I can feel her black magic even from here. It always sends a chill down my spine. Regardless, she’s on my side and she’s after our same enemy. I have wolves ready, waiting, biting at the bit to move. They await my command, await my sign to move. Once I know the threat has been neutralized, the signal will raise and all hell will break loose. It’s only a matter of time and I’ll take all of what’s
I don’t know what it is that she feels beneath my beautiful woman’s skin. I cannot control what has her so worried, but I can give her myself. She’s accepted me, she wants me. Hearing her say she is ready to have my mark has given me my whole world. “I love you, Odessa.”I say softly right before kissing her, feeling and sensing her love being returned to me. I’m careful to lift her into my arms and pull her close. My steps carry us back to the bed where I lay her down. My lips find hers again before I slip her nightgown off. It makes me growl sensually when I see there isn’t anything but panties underneath. “Goddess, Little Queen, you’re so beautiful… so mine…”I lean in and kiss her deeply, growling as I do. Her hands frame my face before moving to tangle her fingers in my hair. My lips then move to kiss her brow, cheeks, chin, jaw, before making my way down. Not yet, no, not yet. More for her first.I tell myself and my wolf as our teeth, lips and tongue taste her throat and ne
Dawn breaks, birds sing, celebrations from the night before have silenced. Yet I awaken early, despite my exhaustion. My instincts are telling me today is dangerous, something is coming. I sit up in bed beside Levantus who is still sleeping. His aura is calm and the gold is comforting. My fingers reach out to gently brush against his arm. He announced his love for me, openly, before all of this people. Goddess, my heart wants to burst open, I want to scream and howl with joy. My wolf, sealed away, would probably be wishing the same. I want to know what her voice would sound like in my mind. Still, there’s a darkness in my bones, the same darkness I know chains my wolf away. It feels like a living thing, evil and cruel in intent. My own magic has tried to burn it away in the past. I can feel a warning, something is to come. For once, I can’t tell where or what to do. So, I get up and I pace for a moment. I’ve learned Levantus room, our room, by now. Nothing will be moved or changed
I can see the sadness in her eyes for just a moment. Her desire to be able to see what is around her. I can’t imagine what that frustration is like. How would I feel if I couldn’t see her? See her beautiful smile?“We are all wearing matching ties to your purple dress with pocket squares. There’s lavender, tiger lilies, and greenery all around the banquet.”I give her some information and she tilts her head as though to look at me. A little smile curving her lips. “Trust me, Odessa, you’re gorgeous and everything here represents how I feel about you. I’ve had your favorite foods made and everyone here is ready for you. They want you, I need and want you. Do you trust me?”I watch as her smile blooms a little more. There’s still worry in her, but I know she trusts me. It’ll be better once she actually hears and feels the people react to her. “I trust you, Levantus.”She says softly and touches my jaw gently. Leaning in, I kiss her tenderly. “Then allow me to introduce you as mine. W
The smells from the kitchens are amazing, the energy is intense. Levantus isn’t holding anything back, setting a banquet to announce us. Goddess, my heart feels like it’s going to beat right out of my chest. After having lived so long without a pack, without a home, a connection other than Arius. It almost feels like too much, overwhelming so much of me. Yet, my bond with Levantus has strengthened. Everyday I am with him it is more intense. Both of us are barely able to restrain ourselves from marking the other. That is the final step to seal our bond. “One more week. He said one more week and the ritual marking can be done at the proper ceremony.”It makes me blush to think about it. That night of our ceremony, we will bind ourselves to each other, accepting our Goddess given bond and I will be accepted as Queen Luna. Goddess… how is this possible? Is it even alright for me to take that title, to accept it before the kingdom and the pack when I can’t access my wolf?Even as my do
Everything was going so well, everything had been planned to the point of having backups to meet various situations. I didn’t plan for that girl to survive. She is supposed to be dead. I growl as I pace slowly, feeling a sense of fury so deep I fear I’ll never escape it. How dare that mutt, how dare she? Wolfless and powerless. Yet, not powerless. Somehow she’s gained powers that I don’t understand. “Thalia, what is happening?! You said you stripped her, she would die before the night was out. Yet here we are and she’s obtained power I don’t understand. Explain!” I snarl at her and she simply laughs. If she was anyone else, I’d rip into her for that alone. Her black eyes glow eerily as she looks at me. “It is a set back, but not a big one. My magic touched her and still seals her. I could not strip her, if you remember, I could only lock her away. With my magic inside her, I will find a way to disrupt whatever she has. Our plans can proceed. You will need to rely more on yourself
