MasukCHAPTER SEVENTY-ONE
Irina's POV Dimitri dashed out of the room with the guard immediately. The door slammed shut behind them. And I was left alone in the sudden silence.Even after everything Alexei had done to him, Dimitri still cared.I had seen the fear in his eyes. The panic. Alexei was his brother after all. His twin. His blood.I sat still for a while. Just staring at the empty space where Dimitri had stood. My mind was racing with thoughts. With worries. With questions. What if Alexei really died? What would happen then?Would Dimitri blame himself? Would he regret taking me from him?I stood up slowly and walked to the window. I stared out at thCHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVENIrinaThe gunshot rang out like thunder. My whole body went cold with fear.I watched in horror as Ivan pulled the trigger. But then something impossible happened.Mikhail moved faster than I thought possible for an old man.He threw himself in front of Dimitri. The bullets hit him instead.Once, twice, three times.Blood sprayed everywhere. Mikhail fell to the ground hard."No!" Dimitri screamed.Everything was happening too fast.My mind could barely keep up.Behind me in the NICU my baby was crying.Marina was still in there with him.In front of me Mikhail was bleeding on the floor. And Dimitri was standing frozen in shock. What
CHAPTER EIGHTY-SIXDimitri's POVMy blood turned to ice as Mikhail stepped out of the elevator. He looked old, and tired. But I didn’t care. All I saw was the man who had poisoned my brother. The man who had sided with my enemy.Rage took over me immediately. It was hot and blinding.
CHAPTER EIGHTY-FIVEIrina's POVAfter Dimitri left I sat alone with my thoughts. My son was stable now but I was still scared. What if someone tried to hurt him again? What if Katya came back?"Do not worry ma'am," the guard Dimitri left said as though he could read my thoughts. "We will protect you both."I nodded but I did not feel safe.A nurse came in to check on me."How are you feeling Mrs Volkov?" She asked kindly.
CHAPTER EIGHTY-FOURDimitriI looked around the NICU at every face.Nurses, doctors, staff members, all of them looked nervous. One of them was a traitor. One of them had tried to kill my son."Listen carefully," I said, my voice was cold and deadly. "I will ask this once and only once."Everyone was silent."Who tampered with my son's IV?" I demanded. No one spoke."I said who did it!" I roared. The staff flinched but still no one answered."Boss," one of my guards said. "We should check the security cameras.""Do it," I ordered. "Now."He left quickly.I turned back to the medical staff. "Until we find out who did this, no one touches my son," I said. "Only the head doctor."&nb
CHAPTER EIGHTY-THREEIrina's POVI woke up to the sound of voices arguing outside my room. One voice was Dimitri's, the other was a woman's.I tried to sit up but pain shot through my body.I gasped and lay back down. The door opened and Dimitri came in.His face looked troubled."Who was that?" I asked."No one important," he said quickly. But I could tell he was lying."Dimitri," I said. "Do not lie to me."He sighed and sat down beside me."That was Marina," he said. "Roberto's wife."My heart sank. She had fought for me against her husband and I hadn't gotten a chance to thank her. "What did she want?" I asked.
CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWODimitri"No no no," I whispered as Irina's eyes closed. Her body went limp in my arms."Irina!" I shook her gently. "Irina, wake up!"But she did not respond."Drive faster!" I shouted at the driver. "She is dying!""We are almost there, boss!" The driver replied.I pressed my hand against Irina's stomach trying to stop the bleeding. But there was too much blood, it kept flowing."Please," I whispered. "Please do not leave me."I felt for her pulse and it was still there but it was very weak."Stay with me baby," I said.
