Chapter 3

Author: Crystal K
Arthur watched me stand there, frozen.

He placed his fingers on my shoulders, releasing a tiny bit of Alpha aura to comfort me.

"Serena, your wolf is unsettled." He frowned, his eyes dripping with genuine concern. "Are you overworked again? You always carry everything by yourself. You can lean on me, you know."

Mia stood up from the table and carefully walked over, handing me a glass of water.

"Luna, you look so pale," she said, her eyes red like a kicked puppy. "Arthur has been so worried about you lately. I'm worried too. Please take care of yourself."

Looking at their concerned faces, my throat clamped shut. I couldn't speak a single word.

For the next week, Leo fully recovered.

When I visited the nursery, he waved his chubby arms at me and giggled. His tiny hand grabbed my finger. Those innocent brown eyes looked at me with pure trust.

In that second, my frozen heart wavered.

Watching Arthur stay up all night by the crib, feeling his good morning and goodnight kisses on my forehead, a tiny, pathetic shred of hope sparked in me.

Maybe... maybe it really was a medical accident?

Did the clinic screw up the embryos? Did they accidentally mix Mia's egg with Arthur's sample?

And the scent at the hospital... Arthur said it was just an emergency Alpha command to stop her from shifting. That made sense.

If that was true, Arthur didn't know! He loved me. He panicked when I even frowned. He wouldn't do something this vile.

I was just being paranoid because of a DNA test.

Like a drowning woman, I clung to that floating piece of driftwood.

I decided not to confront them yet. I ordered my assistant to gather all our medical files. I prepared to sue the Lycan Medical Center to hell and back. Once I had proof it was the hospital's fault, I would tell Arthur the truth. We could still be a family.

Until Friday afternoon.

I finished my border patrol early and wanted to see Leo.

I opened the front door. The packhouse was dead quiet. The maids had been sent away early.

I took off my muddy boots and walked upstairs.

Suddenly, a thick, sickening scent hit me like a brick.

It was coming from the end of the hall. My master bedroom!

It was the heavy, suffocating scent of a wolf in heat—strong enough to temporarily blind an Alpha's battle senses.

Instantly, the warrior instincts I honed on the battlefield kicked in.

I held my breath, clamped down on my wolf's rage, and completely masked my scent. Like a ghost, I crept down the hall.

The bedroom door wasn't fully closed.

I froze in the doorway, my blood turning to ice. My heart stopped beating.

Arthur was completely drowned in lust and Omega pheromones. He had no idea his Luna was standing right outside.

"Ah... Arthur... not so rough..."

Mia's breathless, shameless moans slithered into my ears like venom, accompanied by the loud slapping of flesh and the creaking of my bed.

"You've been begging for this all week, you little witch."

Arthur's voice was a low, satisfied growl.

My Alpha. In my bed. Pinning down my "good sister."

"I was so scared..." Mia panted, giggling. "When Leo had a fever... I thought Serena would take his blood and figure it out. Thank Goddess she's clueless."

Arthur chuckled, a deep, breathy sound of pure pleasure.

"So what? Even if she saw his blood type, she'd just blame the clinic. She loves me too much. I treat her too well. She'd never suspect me."

He paused, letting out a heavy groan.

"Mia, you two are different. Serena is my fated mate. I love her, she's a badass Luna, she manages the territory and the Elders... but she's too dominant. And she can't give me pups."

"I need an Omega like you. Sweet, submissive, able to breed, and totally surrendered to me in bed. Having you both gives me everything."

"Who do you love more? Hmm?" Mia giggled, kissing him loudly. "Her or me?"

"In this bed, only you..."

Every excuse I made for them, every bit of my self-hypnosis, turned into a brutal slap across my face.

I didn't need to sue the clinic.

There was no medical accident.

From start to finish, this was a calculated scam to drain me dry. He enjoyed my love, exploited my labor, spent my blood money, and comfortably bred his mistress right under my nose.

I used every ounce of my strength and kicked the door open. Crash!

The two bodies on the bed screamed and sprang apart.

Mia shrieked, pulling the sheets up to cover her naked chest, her face completely drained of color.

Arthur's hands were still hovering over Mia's waist. He whipped his head around, his eyes bulging in absolute horror. His perfect, gentle mask shattered into a million pieces.

I looked at the disgusting pair and smirked.

"Is that right? Too bad your sweet dream is over."

"Serena, stop moving." Karl gripped my shoulders. Not hard, but with that stubborn Lycan dominance. He knelt in front of me, carefully buttoning my trench coat. His eyes held a gentle, cautious look I had never seen from any Alpha before. "I'm not made of glass," I rolled my eyes, but I didn't pull away. "You're worth far more than glass right now," he murmured, his eyes dropping to my rounded belly, his voice thick with pride. It had been a year. From the sound of the gavel in the courtroom to standing here on the balcony of the Lycan Council headquarters. The pup inside me was perfectly safe. No pain, no rejection, no miscarriages. The doctors said the pureblood Lycan genes were a flawless match. My wolf accepted him entirely, and the mating even suppressed the last of the silver poison in my blood. I thought I would never get to experience this kind of peace. Karl wrapped his arms around me from behind, draping his massive jacket over my shoulders. He smelled like crisp ced

"Foreclosure notice." I slapped the file onto the Council table. The room went dead silent. The holographic map displayed three high-risk mining zones—all marked red. My conquests for the month. "The Greystone mine takeover is complete, and the border rogues are dead," I said, my voice completely flat. "Next, I'm renegotiating the Western tax treaties."The Elders looked at each other. None of them dared to argue. Karl sat at the head of the table, tapping his fingers. A dark smirk played on his lips. "Serena's tactics are a hell of a lot better than the 'generals' we've been paying."I didn't reply. I packed up my tablet and walked down to the underground garage. My phone buzzed. A text from my assistant. [Mia ran off with Silver Moon's last remaining cash. Rumor has it she found a new Alpha out West. Leo was found abandoned by a dumpster, seizing from a high fever.]I read it with a blank face and shoved my phone in my pocket. It had absolutely nothing to do with me anymore.

The wind in the North was colder than Silver Moon territory. When I walked into the Frost Wolf packhouse, my blood was practically frozen. My father, the Alpha of the Frost Wolves, stood in the center of the hall. He listened to my story in dead silence. The DNA report. The bone ring. The jump out the window. When I finished, he grabbed the heavy silver dagger from his desk. It gleamed under the office lights. "Gather the enforcers," he barked, his voice pure venom. "I'm wiping the Silver Moon pack off the map.""No need," I touched his arm. "They'll destroy themselves."I didn't expect to see Arthur's face again before the sun even came up. A few beaten-up SUVs blocked the Frost Wolf gates. The cars were covered in deep claw marks. Arthur rolled out of the driver's seat and stumbled to the iron gates. His eyes were bloodshot, his voice hoarse and broken. "Serena!" He gripped the iron bars. "Rogues attacked the packhouse last night! We... we lost seven people!"I stood on the o

My phone vibrated aggressively on the passenger seat as I shifted back to human form, my clothes still dusted with snow. I picked it up. A pack-wide alert popped onto the screen. [Immediate effect: Silver Moon borders are locked. Anyone attempting to transfer assets under the Luna's name will be charged with treason. —Arthur]I laughed out loud. Arthur thought if he locked down my money and my status, I would cry and crawl back to him like I always did. He never understood me at all. I didn't go back to the packhouse. I drove straight to an unassuming warehouse on the outskirts of the city and scanned my iris. This was my private vault. For five years, every time the Silver Moon pack went into the red, I bailed them out with my own blood money. The mine loans, the border security upgrades, the Elders' stipends... Arthur never paid a dime. To fund his mistress's fake IVF and buy her luxury pregnancy gems, I literally put my life on the line. I walked to the terminal and typed in

The echo of the door slamming into the wall rang in the room. "Serena! Just calm down!" Arthur moved on pure instinct, leaping off the bed without even trying to cover his naked body. He unleashed his Alpha aura. A heavy, crushing pressure slammed into the room, trying to force me to my knees. It was the same trick he used to control the pack. For five years, whenever we argued, he used this aura. My wolf would instinctively relax and submit. I thought it was a feeling of safety. Now I knew it was just training. "This is just... I lost control during my rut, Serena! Let me explain—" His voice was shaking, but he pushed his aura harder, trying to pin me to the floor. But this time, nothing happened. My wolf exploded with pure, murderous rage. Instead of submitting, my aura flared like wildfire and slammed right back into him. Arthur choked. He stumbled backward, his face turning pale. He looked utterly shocked, unable to comprehend why his five-year-old trick wasn't working
