“Demi?” Nora nudged me, bringing me out of the trance the other guy had me in.
“What?”
“You remember Amelia?” She was our age and the daughter or mate of some beta that I couldn’t remember.
“Yes!” Reaching over, I gave her a hug. “How are you?”
She was just as tall as I was, but a few pounds heavier. “I’m great! It’s so good to see you girls!”
“What can I get you ladies?” The bartender got our attention.
The three of us walked up to the bar. “I’ll take a burbon on the rocks. Whatever top shelf you have is fine.” I said instantly.
“Still drinking that gross stuff, huh?” Amelia laughed. “I’ll take a cranberry and vodka.”
“Make that two.” Nora laughed with her.
“I feel like it just fits my vibe.” Laughing, it felt good to let loose.
“Here you ladies go.” He pushed all three drinks over to us. Grabbing an extra straw, we turned back to the party.
“We need to find our seats before my dad blows a vein, but come find us later, okay?” Nora smiled at Amelia.
“Will do!” She waved before walking away.
“Where are the guys?” I asked, looking around.
“No idea.” Nora did the same as we made our way to the tables. “Oh, shoot! I forgot something. I’ll be right back.” She took off almost at a jog.
Shaking my head, I walked around the table and found the name tag that said my name. “So, you are Demi Rose?”
The sexiest voice I had ever heard sent shivers down my spine. He was deep, manly, with a hint of ruggedness that instantly made me want to squeeze my legs together. Slowly, my eyes raised up to see the same man that was staring at me from across the room. The other guy was standing right behind him with a smirk on his face. I swear they were almost a foot taller than I was.
Keeping my composure, I tried to play it cool. “I am, and you are?” Tilting my head to the side, slightly, I was intregued by his demeanor. He seemed intersted and amused at the same time.
“My name is Luca, and this is my beta Heath.” He motioned behind him as Heath nodded his head.
Well, damn. Not wanting to be rude or disrespectful, I have him a little bow of respect but I was immediatly defensive. “Nice to meet you.”
“What are you drinking?” He glanced down at my drink that was in my hands.
“Burbon.” I had as I took a larger sip. I needed this to kick in.
“Hmm.” He said as the amusement played in his eyes.
“Luca!” Nora was walking up behind us. Reaching out, she allowed Luca to wrap his arm around her and twirl her around a few times. “It’s good to see you!” She was smiling from ear to ear.
“It’s good to see you. It’s been too long.” He sat her down. “This is my beta, Heath.”
“Ma’am.” he drawed and tipped his glass to her.
“I see you guys met Demi.” Nora walked around to stand next to me.
“We did. Where is our brother? I haven’t had a chance to say hello.” Luca looked around.
“Luca!” Alpha Dylan came walking up with Luna Callie and Chase behind them. I could tell Chase was already pissed off about something.
“Mom.” Luca hugged his mother first before shaking Alpha Dylan’s hand. “Good to see you. This is my beta, Heath.”
“Alpha Dylan, Luna Callie. Pleasure to finally meet you.” Holding out his hand, he shook their hands, but there was a stiffness to it that made me lift an eyebrow.
“Please, have a seat. We are about to start the meal.” Luna Callie pointed to the table. I didn’t realize just how the seat were until we all took our seats. Luna Callie sat on one side with Luca beside her and then Heath. Alpha Dylan sat across the Luna Callie with Chase, me and then Nora.
Chase pulled out my seat for me before he took his own. “THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING!” Alpha Dlyan yelled loudly. “IF YOU ALL WOULD TAKE YOUR SEATS, DINNER IS READY TO BE SERVED!” He sat down as the servers came out.
“Well, Luca…” Alpha Dylan looked at him. “How are things going with you? Found your mate yet?”
“No, I haven’t.” I wasn’t sure why that gave me butterflies, but it did. “Heath was hoping he would find his mate tonight as well.”
Heath was taking a drink when Luca tossed him under the bus. Choking, he had to clear his throat before speaking. “That is the plan.” For some reason, I didn’t buy it. That was this dangerous air around them.
“What about you, Chase? Find your mate yet?” Luca grabbed his drink and took a sip.
Chase put his arm around my waist. “I will at mid-night.”“Mid-night?” Luca looked at me with somethinig in his eyes that I couldn’t quite read.
“My 18th birthday is tomorrow.” Thankfully, the servers came around with our room, making Chase pull his hand off my waist.
“So, Luca. What have you been up to?” Luna Callie changed the subject. Nora and I both chose the roasted duck. It seems everyone else chose the steaks. Since my hair blocked out everyone to my left, I could only see Heath and Nora without turning my head. This was the perfect distraction so I could stay out of their family drama.
Chase would occationally put his hand on my thigh that I would brush away. At one point, I had to give him a look, since his hand was moving up too high for my liking. A move that didn’t go missed by Luca.
“Dylan, I think everyone is done eating. Why don’t you give your speech so the dance can start?” Luna Callie leaned over the table.
“I think you are correct.” Alpha Dylan stood up to deliver his speech.
Beep… Beep… Beep“Thank you, doctor.” Luca’s tired voice brought me out of this blackness I was stuck in. “Luca?” I whispered as I tried to open my eyes. “We are safe. You are in the hosptial.” Luca grabbed my hand and sat beside me. “The baby?” “The baby is okay. You lost a lot of blood. Our friend came back with some flower and shoved it in your mouth when you collapsed. The doctor said there were healing properties and our blood provided extra protection and healing. The alpha blood mixed together caused so much healing and advanced strength that it saved the baby… and your neck. That was millimeters away from you dying.”“How many people died?” I didn’t realize how sore my throat was until Luca told me, but my eyes adjusted. Luca had bruises that were almost healed on his face. “24 people died throughout the packs. Some women and men, but not children. All the mutants were killed. 15 people got affected by the poison from those things. They should be completely recovered toda
For the first time, I saw Grim hesitate and look around. “Don’t listen to her. Our mutants are larger and much more deadly than these things.” Right on cue, a large cry came as my forest friend ripped off the head of the mutant. “You were saying?” I smirked as my friend’s eyes locked onto Xavier. “Do you feel like taking your last breath?” I asked, just as I heard something behind us. Xavier turned to look, making the knife dig a little deeper in my throat. He let out a groan before he let go of my hair and the knife lost its pressure but sliced down my throat and shoulder. “NO!” Grim growled as I turned to see Amelia standing there with a sharp piece of concrete in her hand. Blood had sprayed on my dress and on hers. My eyes kept going down to see Xavier holding his throat as blood ran between his fingers. Crouching down, I made him look me in the eye. “Grim is next and I will live on.” Just as the last word was out, his eyes rolled back in his head as he went limp. “Demi, use y
“This isn’t happening!” Simon was shaking in anger. His eyes shifted black as he glanced down at me. I couldn’t help but laugh at his expense. “Xavier and Grim are probably dead by Luca by now.” Simon looked around before looking back at me. His hand pulled back and slapped me across the face. Blood filled my mouth from the large gap in my lip. “This isn’t over.” Simon’s hand went back to my throat and drug me along with him. “Does this make you feel better?” I spit a wad of blood on the ground. “There they are!” Simon stopped and pointed over to Grim, holding up his dad. “One and a half.” I joked as we walked out of the trees and into the open. “GRIM!” Simon shouted and held up a hand. “Over here!” I watched as Grim dropped his dad and ran over to us. “We have to leave. Luca is behind us. He is wounded, but that fucking shit took out my dad.” He looked over at me before looking back at Simon.“Why haven’t you killed her yet?” “We were enjoying the show.” Simon looked back. “
“Kinda?” I asked, unsure if I wanted to know what he meant. “You see, dear old dad isn’t buried or even burned with the rest of them. He is currently in my freezer.” The world spun as the words sank in. My stomach rolled. This time, there wasn’t the baby’s fault. Leaning away from Amelia, it tried to empty itself. Only, there wasn’t anything in there to come up. Simon tossed his head back and laughed. “That’s right. It was me that left that little present for you. It was too fucking easy. Honestly, the security Luca has is just pointless. These morons aren’t going to achieve anything.” “Threats against Heather?” I asked.Simon shrugged. “Grim’s idea to throw Heath off or get you looking in another direction. Just bored really.”“That’s it, then? Xavier and Bryant teamed up to kill my family?” I was still wrapping my head around it.“There was a girl…” “Yeah…” Simon sighed. “… annoyed bitch but a good lay.” He nodded a few times. “Do you remember an orphan girl that was a few year
Demi POV“Demi…” Amelia looked at me with tears in her eyes. “… I swear I didn’t know!” A fresh wave of tears ran down her face. My heart broke for her. “Amelia.” Holding out my arms, I pulled her into a hug. “Please don’t hate me.” I whispered in her ear. “Hate you?” She leaned back and cocked her head to the side. “What do you mean?”“Everything will be okay.” It was all I could think to say.“Okay? My mate is a traitor and you are going to kill him!” Amelia had switched to sorrow to frantic and angry. “I just found him! What if I’m pregnant and don’t know it? I won’t survive without him! You are killing me too!” “Calm down!” I almost commanded. “Come on. Let’s go talk this out.” Grabbing her hand, I tried to pull her along, but she wasn’t having it.“Why? So you can just kill him in front of me? I won’t let it happen!” Amelia started stomping off in the direction they drug an unconscious Reese out of. “Demi…?” Nora looked unsure as she stopped me from following her.“I’m okay.
“Carry them both to the dungeons.” My voice held a certain restraint. However, it was my arms keeping Demi back as her wolf was taking over. “I’ll kill them.” She growled. “Demi! Please!” Winston tried to plead with Demi. “I’m innocent! It wasn’t me!” “My dad trusted you!” His eyes widdened as her claws came out. “NO!” He screamed but they had already pulled him out of the main room. “Demi!” Turning her around, I had to force her eyes on me. “Look at me. We have them. We have the people responsible for your pack’s murders.” Tears replaced the black as her claws retracked. “Winston killed my family.” She whispered. “Demi!” Nora came up behind us. Demi looked around and ran into her arms. “I don’t believe it. It’s over!” She cried as Nora held her close. Even Callie came over to give her a hug. Soon most of the woman had came over to lead their support. I looked over to see dad nodding his head towards the door. “Watch her.” I whispered to Heath and took off after my dad. I wa
