登入Kieran’s POV.
I stare deep into Caius' red blooded eyes as fear curls around my chest, curling around it so tightly I barely have the strength to breathe. The variations of colour in his eyes makes my entire being tremble from deep within me. And I know the reason behind this colour. He's hungry. I swallow hard as I roll down the window. The muscles in his jaw tighten and his nostrils flare. Amongst the feeling of fear flooding within me, is a single stroke of annoyance made entirely by rejection. He hates my scent. “What are you doing here, human?” he asks while still watching me. Oh fuck. Lust covers the surface of the fear coursing through me, diluting it enough for my stomach to coil with desire. His voice is as deep and rich as the colour dusting his eyes. I raise a trembling finger towards where Beau is providing his consorting service. Caius doesn't even follow my finger. He doesn't move at all. “Why are you here? How did you find me?” I ask. My vampire stares me down, looking at me in disgust. I want to counter his look with one of my own but even if I tried more, I can't manage that. He is by far the most beautiful man I've ever seen. Vampires are meant to be beautiful but my vampire is breathtaking. “Some humans claim they never forget a face, right?” He replies, breathing heavily. I nod. “Well… I never forget a scent.” Again, my head nods in understanding. “So you were close by?” Caius’ lips part and I see the tips of his canine as they elongate into fangs. This is what happens when they're too hungry. They can't control it and even though he finds me repulsive, he can't resist the smell of blood. He only sees me as food. I swallow back the temptation to ask him to feed from my blood. “No, I smelled yours before you even reached the colony.” I blush. He doesn't say it with disgust but like he's stating a fact. There aren't a lot of humans around their colony so it makes sense that he remembers mine. Caius tilts his head to the side, humming low in his throat. “You need to leave.” He says. “I can't. Not without my friend.” I argue with a fleeting courage while I nod towards the house Beau just went through. He raises a brow. I glance outside and I notice his kind walking down their porch towards my car. Fear claws at the little control I've managed to have. “I'm one of the most respected and strongest vampires but they are not in their right frame of mind. They are too hungry to listen to me right now.” Too hungry? How's that possible? Every vampire has a human assigned to them and it's the responsibility of every consort to serve when they're needed. Why are they so hungry? I feel my pulse quickening as vampires move closer to where we are. “You need to calm your pulse. The faster your blood pumps, the faster it carries your scent to them.” Caius says irritably, tightening his hand around the side of the door. Caius glances at the approaching creatures with creased brows before he opens the passenger door and cramps his long limbs into the vehicle. My eyes sweep up his attire—black dress pants with black collared shirt. He points in a direction and tells me to drive that way. “What about Beau? I can't leave him behind.” “I'll make sure your friend is safe for the night,” he promises. “But we need to leave now.” I hesitate because this creature could be taking me anywhere for all I know to trade me with another vampire for a new consort. Then he speaks to me with a sharp edge that keeps my fear intact. “I will not hurt you, but they will. We need to move now!” I lick my lips and with trembling hands. I put the car into gear and drive towards where Caius points. I try to look back guiltily towards the house Beau is in but I can't see anything other than red eyes with hungry gazes everywhere. We drive until well past the colony and when I started getting worried about my fuel gauge, Caius pointed me to a gravel road that I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Caius told me to wait in the car so he'd check around. “What for?” “To make sure every unwanted visitor gets back to the colony.” Trepidation runs through my blood but I try to calm my breathing as Caius' words ring in my head again. I lock the car doors again. I may have never travelled to the colony before but buying something about this feels very off. The Vampires were giving consorts and even a modern living environment. So why are they so vile? I chew on my bottom lip, all the stress becomes focused on the lip currently between my teeth. I chew on it so hard that a small cut pierces through the supple flesh. I wince and allow my tongue, run across it. The coppery tang of blood met my taste buds. Seconds later, Caius is back by my windowside. “Did you get any lurkers?” I ask, rolling down the window. He doesn't answer me. He is still like a statue. Then his eyes rake my face until they narrow at my bottom lip. I feel another drop of blood flow on my lip and I also lick it up with my tongue. Caius' eyes follow the action. He reaches for my face with hands so strong, they could break me if they wanted to. It's like I'm in another world. His fangs elongate more, making my heart beat out of control. He lures me in with his red eyes and his scent puts me in a sense of false peace. My chest squeezes together in anticipation when he pulls me closer to him. Caius drags his slender fingers through my hair and pulls me closer by my nape. His scent draws me closer to his lips. His hands are as soft as snow. He leans closer to my lips, leaving little to no space between us. My breath accelerates as his breath ghosted my face.Kieran’s POV.I stare deep into Caius' red blooded eyes as fear curls around my chest, curling around it so tightly I barely have the strength to breathe. Kieran’s POV.Three days later, sliding my finger lazily across the carpet in search of my drink, I frown as I bring it to my lips. There's not so much left, so I'm forced to lap the froth caked around the rim. Beau plays his piano in the background and once in a while, he scribbles down notes across a sheet of paper. I used to be envious of the way he could write music but now I just see it as the prize of being able to call someone like him my best friend. He stops playing and looks at me. “Do you think it sounds like the hook in Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson?” “Play it again?” I say as a blink repeatedly at him. Beau plays the same note again and I try to compare it to the hook in question. “No,” I confirm. “They’re completely different. The similarity I can get is at the beginning.”Beau smirks and points his pen to my direction. “You're learning.”“Yeah,” I scoff. “It only took me six years to learn one or two things about music.” Beau rolls his eyes at me. “Everyone lear
Professor Evans is one of the youngest lecturers in the academy. And that makes it easier to be able to confide in him. He understands young adults and sees things from our own point of view. And that’s one of the reasons he is my best history lecturer to ever exist. He turns sharply from the pulpit. He had just finished scrubbing some things down on the board.“That will be the end of the class for today.” He announces with his usual friendly smile that always has a cute dimple.“Kieran, wait behind after class.” He adds immediately. I nod.The last of the students, with exhaustion oozing out of them, trickle out with tired expressions on their faces. Same as me still sitted here. Professor Evans turns towards me and frowns with concern. “Have you got any news recently? Tell me if anything is going on?” I looked back at him sharply. “There is absolutely nothing going on.” He leans back against the desk and nods at my wrist. A handsome stubble runs along his jaw. His brown hair
Kieran’s POV.A male. My vampire is a male. My limbs tremble as I stare at him. He takes a step forward, gracefully. He has long fingers that are perfectly slender. His colour matches the flakes of snow. I lick my dry lips and hope he doesn't smell the fear through my veins. He lifts his hands to take off the rest of the hood on his head and slowly it falls away revealing his menacing angled face. My breathing changes because his beauty is earth shattering. He glances over at me, his glowing eyes studying me from head to toe. It's just a look and yet it leaves me breathless. He takes a step closer to me, so close that I can smell his cologne wafting through my nose in every sense. I watch as his nostrils flare, getting an idea of how my blood will taste before it even touches his lips. “I'm s.. sorry, I was expecting to be assigned to a female vampire” I say to him so he would overlook how antsy I was. He merely tsked arrogantly. This should be repulsive to me or maybe make
Kieran’s POV.Two weeks ago, I turned twenty years old. But my vampire hasn’t shown up. And since then I’ve been pondering on why she hasn't reached out to me.The intermediaries between humans and vampires send the details of every human consort to their vampires once they are of age. So, what could be stopping my vampire from reaching out?A thought crossed my mind. “What if her consort just died?” History says they also miss the blood of their previous consort and that could be stopping her from reaching out to me.Beau finally arrives and slides into the booth with a cup of coffee in his hand as steam rises out of the opening. He drops two cubes of sugar into it and shakes the cup, stirring the liquid.“Anything?” He asks, taking a sip from his cup.A few strands of his long hair fall into his face and he tucks them behind his ears, exposing the translucent holes on his wrist. “Not yet.” I finally answer, a sigh following.“Don't worry about it. They are the ones who need to f
