Caius’ POV

My gaze flickers to the door. I don’t want to care about the minutes I’m apart from my human, but my mind continues to count them anyway.

50 minutes and 26 seconds.

I pace back and forth across the jagged floor of the room carved from rock.

My feet pause near the end of the bed. The bedspread is silk, it’s dark golden color reminding me of his hair when the sun hits it just right.

46 seconds.

His scent is still on me, tricking my senses into a false sense of hope.

I close my

  • Bloodbound: A Consort For The Vampire   CHAPTER EIGHTY SIX~ Beating Him To Submission.

Kieran’s POV Flames lick the wall of rock along the dingy hallway, leaving behind charred traces of their touch. Flickers of gold and red intertwine, and they dance with a fervor that shows their hopefulness for freedom. It’s an ache that restlessly prowls inside me, too. For months we were running, hiding and searching. Now that we’re ‘guests’ in the Secondary fortress, I feel more trapped than ever.Caius changes our course, steering us away from the medical unit.“Aren’t we checking on Beau?” I ask, trepidation in my throat.“He’s stable, human. We have an urgent matter to tend to first.”An urgent matter? The image of Caius and the handsome man on screen drops into my brain like a persistent fly on a pile of shit. Will that man be there? Does he have to do with this urgent matter? Between Beau’s waning health and the heavy choice of providing my blood for the war still lingering in the back of my mind, my emotional state is hanging on by a thread. I’m running on fumes as it i

  • Bloodbound: A Consort For The Vampire   CHAPTER EIGHTY FIVE~My Weakness.

Caius’ POV My human clutches the remains of a piece of citric fruit in his palm. His breath shudders as his gaze flickers between the two of us before lingering on me. I feel his eyes travel down my face and across my body which I know is poised for a fight. This Secondary leader might have his nation by the balls, but he doesn’t have me.“Is Beau alright?”My human’s voice breaks. He has no idea why I’m here. Now that my human’s attention is off Caspian, the ever so tactful consulate has the gall to glance at him, smiling in a way that makes me want to leave the imprint of my knuckles on his face.“He’s fine,” I snarl.“Oh.”Caspian smirks and crosses his arms over his chest, goading me with a tilt of his head. “Your barbaric vampire came to save you. Kieran. Are you in need of saving?”I bare my fangs to him and feel the black liquid replacing the hungry red of my irises. “Careful, Mr. Consulate. I would not hesitate to rip your heart out.”Just a whisper of hesitation and fear fl

  • Bloodbound: A Consort For The Vampire   CHAPTER EIGHTY FOUR~ Someone IS Kissing Him.

Caius’ POV Beau is fragile now. With every shallow breath, and with every shiver that wracks his body, it shows. He’s no longer the fierce warrior that suited him as a vampire. He’s reverted to human form, and he’s weak. My human knows it, too. What he doesn’t realize, however, is how close Beau is to knocking on Death’s front door.He can’t sense Beau's emotions, the warring depression and confusion while he sleeps. He can’t smell Beau’s blood and the way it’s slowing down and losing its vibrancy of life. The Secondary medics see his health is deteriorating, but they can’t see what I see either. They’re living their lives ruled by the side of them that’s human. Most of them probably haven’t tasted a drop of blood in centuries. If they did, they’d be able to smell the change in Beau’s life source. They’d be able to sense the shift in his blood. His body is resilient enough to fight; his strength as a vampire was proof enough of that. The sudden onslaught of emotions and sorting

  • Bloodbound: A Consort For The Vampire   CHAPTER EIGHTY THREE~ You Deserve To Know You Saved Mankind.

Kieran’s POV By the time I get through showering, shaving, and putting on clean clothes, I’ve depleted what’s left of my energy. My eyes slowly blink open and closed. Everything feels like it’s moving in slow motion, and I give a fleeting look to the neatly made bed.The idea of a nap sounds incredibly inviting, but what if Beau wakes up and asks for me? What if he needs me?I shake my head. No, a nap is not an option. I force my feet to keep moving and close the door behind me. Flames flicker along the hallway. It’s barely enough light, but I keep to the center where the rock is the smoothest and the most well traveled. It isn’t until I’m standing in front of Caspian’s office door that I realize I have no idea where the dining hall is located. Every meal I’ve had has either been in my room or with Caspian. The guards standing on either side of the door stare down at me. Their green uniforms remind me of the doctors in Beau’s room.“Do you have an appointment with the consulate?”

  • Bloodbound: A Consort For The Vampire   CHAPTER EIGHTY TWO~ There's Nothing Left To Hide.

Rebecca’s POV The night was brutal. The wind howled through the mountain pass, rattling the thin fabric of the tents.I lay curled on my side, one hand pressed to my stomach, listening to the rhythmic breathing of the others.I couldn’t sleep. I hadn’t been able to sleep properly since we’d left the North. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Kieran’s face. I imagined the betrayal in his eyes when he read my letters.I’d known, even then, that I was destroying something precious. But I’d convinced myself that the war was more important. That freedom was more important. But what freedom was I fighting for now? Freedom from the vampires? Freedom from the Agreement?Or freedom from the guilt that gnawed at my insides like an hungry animal?I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to force herself to rest. I am so tired. Bone-deep, soul-crushing tired. The pregnancy was taking everything out of me, draining my energy and leaving me hollow. And still, I had to keep moving.Mathews shifted in

  • Bloodbound: A Consort For The Vampire   CHAPTER EIGHTY~ The Weight Of Regret.

Rebecca’s POV The cold was a living thing in the North. I pulled my threadbare coat tighter around my swollen belly, but the chill had long since seeped past the layers of fabric and into my bones. I’d stopped feeling my toes days ago. Perhaps longer. Time had become a blur of gray skies, endless trudging through snow, and the gnawing emptiness of hunger that never quite left me. Mathews walked ahead of me, his broad shoulders hunched against the wind. He hadn’t spoken to me in hours. Not since the last time we’d stopped to rest and I’d asked foolishly, if we were getting any closer. He’d looked at me with those cold, calculating eyes that used to make me feel safe and protected. Now they just made me feel small. “Ask me that one more time,” he’d said, his voice flat and dangerous, “and I’ll leave you here for the vultures.” I’d believed he would. I stumbled over a hidden patch of ice and caught myself on a gnarled tree branch. The bark scraped my palm, drawing a th

Caius’ POV The presence of his breathing rattles me, it's a constant reminder of the presence of his essence. I watched as he filled his lungs with air for survival. • Bloodbound: A Consort For The Vampire   ~ A Kiss From The Vampire?

Kieran’s POV.I stare deep into Caius' red blooded eyes as fear curls around my chest, curling around it so tightly I barely have the strength to breathe. The variations of colour in his eyes makes my entire being tremble from deep within me. And I know the reason behind this colour. He's hungry
