Shocked by what I heard, I turn to look at Liam for confirmation but I could not even say the words because of how affected I was by what I just heard, only my eyes did the talking.
I guess seeing the pain and betrayal in my eyes couldn't make Liam look me straight to my face, instead, he averted his eyes from mine and nodded in confirmation.
Upon seeing him confirm it, I almost fainted.
" w...why... my sister...how could you Liam" I felt as if my heart was about to be ripped out of my chest and couldn't help but to hit my chest a couple of times before collapsing on the couch behind me. On seeing me collapse, Liam and Autumn, my younger sister of two years, ran to me out of panic. The reason they are like this is that I just did surgery for my heart disease and I'm still recuperating.
"Don't.... don't come any closer". I raise my hand to refute their advance toward me.
"Lorel, I'm so sorry please forgive me. I wanted to tell you but didn't know how to" Autumn said with tears and regret in her voice.
I shake her head and asked, "how long has it been going on...how long???"
"Six months now" Liam replied
"Si...six months???.... a...and you are pregnant with his child??? I asked Autumn feeling as though my heart was about to be ripped out from my chest.
With tears in her eyes, Autumn could not answer but nodded instead.
On receiving confirmation from her, I stood up from the couch on shaky legs and manage to drag myself out while telling them not to follow me.
Seeing Lorelei leave, Autumn could not hold on to her tears any longer and wept with all her might while clinging to Liam.
"It's ok Autumn, it's good we told her now to avoid hurting her more, she can still handle it now than later. She's very strong have faith in her" he said with sadness written in his voice.
As Lorel was about to leave the building, she turned one last time and a drop of tears fell from her face. She quickly wiped it off and went out of the building.
She walked for some time before waving down a taxi and telling the driver to drive.
Dante
“Where did you say he is at the moment?” I asked my assistant and Beta, Dario, as I finished signing the contract before me.
“He is at De Retroville, your Highness.” My head jerked upon hearing the location where my overbearing brother was.
“Of all places and time, that’s where he decided to cause trouble this time around. Why does he keep going there to cause trouble with them and will end up getting me involved with them and cleaning up his mess.” I grumbled and tried to control my rising anger, as I pushed my chair backward to get up and walk towards the door and out of the office.
“I’m still trying to find out the reason your Highness.” He bowed and followed me out.
I chose not to give him a response because I know that no matter how hard he tries, he would not be able to. Lan was like that. He was the most secretive being I’ve ever known.
I walked out of my skyscraping building and got into the back seat of my 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, while Dario sat in the passenger seat beside Jake, my gamma, who happened to be the one driving.
“Your Highness,” he greeted me and I nodded my head at him in response before resting my head backward and closing my eyes.
When they saw the position that I was in, they both kept quiet knowing fully well I needed the quietness to reign in my Lycan.
It was the breeding season, and during this period, the female wolves go into heat for roughly seven days while the male wolves will not be able to control their urges to mate. Those that were already mated to either their mates or chosen, were lucky enough to go through the season without fear of losing control and exposing their wolf side to the world.
Due to how the world has evolved gradually to the current state of the technology world, the supernatural beings were forced to go into hiding and erase every trace of their existence. Although I’m the King of Lycans and werewolves, to the world, I’m just the CEO of one of the leading conglomerates in the world.
Also due to that, finding our fated mates became ten in a hundred, which led us to choose those we decided to spend the rest of our lives with. We called them our chosen mates.
Though as Lycans, we have more control over our urges, and because I was their king, the breeding season, barely affects me. At most, all I would feel is just a tiny bit of itchiness that if I wanted I could get an unmated wolf to breed but could altogether ignore it.
This has been what I’ve been doing for a long period now, Ignoring it. It was to the extent of not feeling anything most times when the season came and I would only know it was the season when I see the changes in my pack members.
Yet when this season’s breeding started two days ago, I felt it more than I usually do. Though it wasn’t as intense as the way the rest were feeling it, it was still more than normal.
I asked both my beta and gamma if they were also more affected by it than usual or if there were any changes with them and they both said no, they were in perfect control of it.
Hearing their response, I kept quiet and ponder what could be happening to me.
I’ve been trying to figure out what the reason could be but haven’t been able to come up with anything.
Taking in a deep breath to control my nerves and Lycan, I opened my eyes and sat upright, when I felt the car coming to a stop. I look out through the window at the tall building before me and was already beginning to regret my being there.
I’ve always hated being here, mainly for two reasons. Firstly because it is owned by my mortal enemy, Valdis; the vampire crown prince.
Secondly, because of what is being done in secret within the walls of the building. Behind this upfront, is where the vamps take innocent unaware humans as their meal. They suck the life out of them and discard them when they were done.
This is one of the places I hate being present but it seems there’s something that keeps drawing Lan there.
The door beside me opened and I stepped out of the car.
I looked at the building in front of me with so much remorse and was beginning to hate my being there and most especially after sighting the figure walking towards me nonchalantly.
He was the last person I wanted to see but here he was walking toward me with an obvious taunting look and smile.
“To what do we owe this surprise visit, your highness?” He said with mockery and sarcasm lacing his voice.
Not being able to hide my disgust from my expression, I answered with vexation, “I’m sure my coming here isn’t a surprise to you as you already know my purpose of being here, Prince Valdis.”
He chuckled annoyingly before saying, “I most definitely know the reason why you are here. Who wouldn’t? When your adorable annoying brother made a scene here the moment he got here,”
I raised my brows at his words but didn’t utter a word and wondered what kind of scene Lan could have caused before my arrival and the reason behind it.
As I could not come up with any suitable reason, my irritation grew by the minute.
“Where is he?” I spat out.
Despite seeing that my mood was negatively increasing, he gave a mocking smile and said, “What’s the rush? The deed has been done and cannot be undone. But there is something you can do instead with me.”
At this point I seriously wasn’t interested in what he wanted nor did I care. All I wanted right now was to locate Lan and get the hell out of here and to a more quiet place where I could have more control over my urges.
Seeing that I wasn’t showing any interest, the mocking smile on his face widened fully enjoying himself.
“Common Your Highness, this small request of mine will cost you nothing. When In fact, all I ask of you is a drink with my lonely self.”
I eyed him sideways not in the slightest mood to deal with him before walking past him and into the hotel.
“W…where are you going? Do you agree to have a drink with me? Awesome…” He said surprised, thinking that I’m willing to sit in this disgusting place and have a drink with his disgusting self.
“Since you decided not to tell me where he is, I will take it upon myself to look for him which I’m very sure will be an inconvenience for you but I know it’s not a problem for you as you didn’t tell me his whereabouts.”
The winds were blowing colder and the sun set faster, with day giving way to evening that much easier. Winter was, indeed, approaching. Mara was helping her mother out in the gardens, surprised that her plants were still alive. Most of the leaves had turned brown and orange when autumn came, but their herbs, vegetables and flowers always seemed to flourish under her mother’s touch. Lucinda Hastings was humming to herself as she picked all of the ingredients she wanted from the growing pile of snow. Mara was certain that by nightfall, the ground would be completely covered in white. Her father had also gone off into the woods to collect lumber for their fire, leaving the two women to themselves. It was eerily silent, seeing as their cottage was situated in the middle of a clearing, deep within the mountains. Mara wasn’t sure where the nearest village was, but ever since she was young, they’d always lived far away from everyone else. They also moved around a lot. Mara had gotten us
All I could do was stare at her, still not believing she was right in front of me. I reached out to touch her once more as I had not since I helped her regurgitate the water she had swallowed as she drowned. With the way I hallucinated so much today, I was afraid that this was a hallucination that would fade in minutes and leave me with a cold, harsh reality. My hand traveled to her face and she stilled in anticipation, her wide eyes glued to my form. “Dante?” Her whisper was small and sounded frightened. I let out a huge sigh of relief and pulled her close to me in desperation. “Lorelei..” She immediately clung to me and started to cry. I could only keep quiet and stroke her hair, still trying not to freak out over the fact that she was in this realm with me. Goddess, please. Let her not be dead. “I’m so sorry, my love. I’m here now. I’m here now.” Her sobs got louder and I had to gather her more into my arms while comforting her the best I could. I kept reassuring her of my
“What...Who...” He stammered, not sure if what he was seeing before him was real or not. He raised his hands to rub against his face hoping that after doing that and he eventually opened his eyes, everything would be just a dream, or an illusion, or trance, or something to indicate that what he just saw, the person before him, was all a lie and not natural. But unfortunately, when he did remove his hands and opened his eyes, the guy standing before him, who looked exactly like him, was still standing before him, smirking or trying not to laugh at him or at how his actions were rather funny. Dante I still got the flowers that you sent My head shot up from my palms. Music? Lorel? And the note you wrote that said that we were meantTo be foreverAn’ I keep them all as evidenceIn a drawer under the mirror With each word from the lyrics, I felt my heart ache. Like a guitar, each word strung my heartstrings. I clenched my chest, trying my best to stand up but unable to because my h
I struggled effortlessly to swim to the surface of the ocean but the more I struggled, the more I sink further down the bottomless pit. My will and struggles become weaker and eventually, I had no energy in me to fight against the torrent of the waters I sank deeper into the ocean feeling myself lose my consciousness gradually, and before I knew it darkness encircled me, and drew me within itself. For what seemed like just a few minutes later, I let out a tightly drawn gasp of air and flew my eyes open but what met them was total and desolate darkness. The same that consumed me when she was on the verge of losing consciousness. However, I could feel that I was no longer surrounded by water but rather I was lying down flat on what seemed like a concrete floor.Trying to control my emotions and not allow fear to consume my being, I move my hand around me the floor not truly knowing what I was looking for in my doing so."Hello, is anyone there?" I called out hoping that someone was t
His face was priceless and he could not stop staring at me and what I wore. Not uncomfortable under his gazing eyes, I waved my hands in front of his face. “Hello..?” I said uncomfortably. His eyes snapped up to mine with a sheepish smile. “I’m sorry.” He rubbed his neck and motioned for me to walk in front of him out of respect. I just scoffed and walked ahead before coming to a stop to glare at him, “So you want me to let me lead?? To where?? Where are we going?” He sighed and took my hand but I snatched it back and narrowed my eyes at him. He sighed once more and took it, grasping it tightly so that I couldn't snatch it out of his hold not letting go even when I tried to snatch it again. “let go of me, you jerk!!” Ignoring me, he kept walking as though my actions toward him meant nothing. I started to hiss at him in spite before yelling. “You’ll break my wrist, you brute!!” He abruptly let go of my hand and turned in concern and seeing that as an opportunity I started to
LorelI couldn’t help but be emotional because the song reminded me of Liam and how past relationship and could not help but refer to him through the song at the same time. Also, I could feel part of myself referring to Zane which came as a surprise to me. Speaking of which, my eyes widened and jolted in surprise when I remembered I'm supposed to be preparing for my date with him. I shook my head, pushed all the emotions I was feeling aside, and rushed out of the bathroom, bumping into Shanghai on the way. “I’m so sorry, Shanghai!” I apologized. She smiled kindly at me and turned to gesture to the outfit on the bed. I walked closer and saw that it was a long-sleeved mini bodycon dress with an opening in the chest area and a mini slit in the front.Touched, I looked at her gratefully and rushed to put it on. Seeing that iI had my shower cap on, I carefully took it off and then shook my hair to create the full fluffy large curls that made me look exotic.I didn’t react as I heard Sh
