Chapter 37

Sara turned to study the sleeping redhead in the back as she mulled over the vision.

Sara was careful to keep her voice low as she watched the girl. “She’s incredibly important, Daniel. I don’t know why or how but I know that she is very important.”

Daniel glanced down at his mate, then back at the girl. “What did you see?”

Sara shook her head. “I’m not even really sure what was happening. It was a full moon and there were hundreds of us there. They were all on the ground looking up at her and she was speaking to them.” Her brows knit as she tried to recall every detail of the vision. “I couldn’t hear her speaking, or maybe it ended before she spoke, but I could tell that she was speaking to them and they were listening. What’s more, they were calm. That many wolves together and no one fought, there were no tribes trying to kill each other. It was like they were all at peace.” Sara looked up at Daniel, every bit as confused as he was. “There hasn’t been a gathering of so many wolves in one place in hundreds of years.”

Daniel stared out the front window as he drove with the most adorable dumbfounded expression on his face. He didn’t know half as much about werewolf history or pre-history as his mate or even some of the other humans that were mated to wolves but he did know that in all the years he’d been mated to Sara there had been countless times when their little pack had run into other tribes and there had been battles. Their pack always did their best to incapacitate rather than kill, but some other packs did not hold life in such high regard.

Daniel took a breath and let it out slowly. “Then we have to keep her safe. Do you have any idea why she was going after those hunters like that? She didn’t even have a gun, what did she think she was going to do in there?”

Sara sighed once again. “I think I know why she went in there. Daniel, I could smell something when we grabbed her. Someone inside that building smelled just like the men from the night we lost Jacob and Cara.”

Daniel cast his mate a worried look. “You think one of the men from that night is there in that building? Should we go back? Should we go and tell the others?”

Sara shook her head quickly. “No, I think we should keep it to ourselves for now. I need to make sense of it all. I need to try to figure out how she is connected to them, or why she’s after them. I think she’ll tell me in time. She seems to trust me.”

Daniel smiled faintly. “Everyone trusts you, Sara. You’re a Theta and you’re one of the kindest, most caring people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. How could anyone not trust you?”

Sara’s cheeks flushed at Daniel’s words. “You flatterer you.” She muttered softly and ducked her head. That shy streak had always been a part of her and sometimes, even with her Daniel, it would rear its head even after so many years together.

“So we take her to our house?” Daniel asked after a long, comfortable silence.

Sara nodded her reply.

“Do you think she’ll actually stay?”

Sara shrugged her shoulders faintly. “I don’t know. I hope so. It’ll be the only way we can keep her safe.”
