"Why don't you spend your time being a pushy parent on improving yourself instead?"

Sarah recognized Kirk's voice right away. Raising her voice, she said, "My family's affairs are none of your business! Where are you two? Don't you dare tell me you're at Caroline's!"

"Don't you worry." Kirk had a bad impression of his mother-in-law. His voice dripped with bitterness. "If Caroline's your daughter, stop telling her to marry Eddy Morrison. She doesn't like hearing it, and neither do I."

Sarah snorted derisively. "How dare you compare yourself with Eddy. He's the most influential figure in Osbury. In Easton, no one could—"

Kirk hung up instantly. Caroline noticed his pursed lips and thought that he had gotten pissed off again. This time though, she was not afraid of him. On the contrary, she felt something warm spread in her chest. "Thank you," she said.
