Chapter three

                        BRENDA

I squealed as he sped past some cars drifting between two trucks, the feeling of the wind caressing my face and the adrenaline rush made me feel free.

I'm free.

I won't be getting married to anyone!

Thanks to Vidia, this biker sure knows his way around the city and he kept driving far away from the wedding venue. I can imagine Papa yelling at the boys to go after me and Don Ferdinand's red face when he hears I have ditched his fat ass.

I pray this causes a rift between him and Papa, I can't run away forever and they will find me so I hope they are not on talking terms before they find me.

I already know where to get a fake ID and passport, and I would leave the country and never look back.

I just wish things had been different and if Austin were still here he would have found a solution. I hope Mama is okay too. I still remember the horrified look on her face when she saw me on this bike.

I didn't even notice we were on top of an expensive super bike, the biker smelled like smoke and cinnamon.

"Did Vidia pay you?" I yelled over the roaring of his engine, he didn't reply and I frowned, there was nothing I hated more than being ignored.

"Are you listening to me? I don't have cash with me right now" I yelled again but still nothing.

Then I noticed he was taking me in the wrong direction, "Hey! This is not the way to the airport" I knocked on his helmet.

"Do you even speak English? Pri-vet?" I tried Russian, then French, and Italian, still nothing, then I tried Spanish and Japanese.

"Do you ever shut up?" A cold masculine smoky voice asked and I blinked when I realized it was coming from him.

"What? What did you just say to me?" I snarled but then he swiveled to the left parking at the side of the road, I noticed we were the only ones on this road as he had taken another route from the main road.

"Why are you stopping?" I asked and as I was about to let go of him my hands touched something hard.

Is that his...

"Get off now!" He ordered and I flinched letting go of him and as I dismounted from the bike my eyes caught the words on his jacket.

TERROR IS LIFE.

Under it, there was a scary demon face with blood dripping off its open jaw, then my eyes widened as I saw it.

The FIENDS, written with fire at the bottom of the leather jacket.

Every hair in my body stood up as goosebumps coated my skin.

Oh my God.

What have I done?

This isn't the getaway bike, Did Vidia betray me? Or is this my own fault?

I took a step back as he removed the helmet revealing tousled dark brown hair, he ran his half-gloved fingers through his hair.

"Who are you?" I kept my voice steady, not showing any sign of fear, my dress wasn't built for fighting at all and there was no way I could outrun him too.

I need to kill him and use his bike to get to the airport.

"I thought by now you would have figured that out Miss Russo, or didn't your father tell you?" He turned to face me and my breath hitched.

He is devastatingly handsome in an unfair way, his emerald green eyes shone in amusement as I stared at him, straight nose, hollow cheekbones, and a chiseled well-sculpted jawline so sharp it could cut through glass.

His dark pierced brows lifted as I moved backward.

Even his bottom lip was pierced.

"Tell me what?" I asked stalling as he swung his leg over the bike with graceful ease keeping his helmet on top of the bike seat.

He pulled out a glock and I gasped.

"About Kaden Blackwood" He replied in an icy tone and I froze.

Is he Kaden?

The Kaden?

What was he doing at my wedding?

Shit!

This is bad. I don't have any weapons and I tossed my heels away at some point.

"Didn't he tell you I would be coming for you? I was hoping you would put up a fight but you hopped on my bike as if you were expecting me, so tell me, Brenda, were you planning to run away?" He smirked at whatever expression he saw on my face.

"What were you doing there? The last time I checked you weren't invited" I fired back refusing to cower in fright, men like him get off on fear and I'm not giving him that.

I reached for the hairpins used to keep my hair up and tied neatly, I removed them letting my hair fall as I looked at the sharp ends.

This would do, I can kick the gun out of his hands and stab him.

Sometimes told me that it wouldn't be so easy.

I lifted my gaze to see him gawking at me like I was fascinating, I took a fighting stance and he chuckled.

"What a feisty thing you are, you think you can win with those little pins? What are you going to do? Fight me?" He asked sarcastically.

"Why don't we test that theory asshole" I dared and he leaned on his bike, his eyes sizing me.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you, and I don't want to ruin that pretty face of yours. It's entertaining to look at" He purred and I scoffed.

"Lose the gun and fight me" I challenged.

"And what would happen if I win?" He asked lazily.

"You do whatever you want with me" I replied and his lips stretched into a sinister smirk.

"And if I win, you let me walk away with the bike of course or I will kill you" I interjected.

"I don't bargain Princess, I'm sure you should have known that by now after what happened to your brother" He grinned as my grip on the pins tightened.

"You are a coward. And I thought the big bad Kaden Blackwood would be impressive, he is just a boy with a gun and a gang of brainless bikers he controls. Spineless worthless-"

"Watch your mouth Princess" His cold voice interrupted and I smirked.

"What? Did I strike a nerve? Scared little boy-"

He pointed the gun at me and I shut my mouth immediately, then he pointed it at the ground and pulled the trigger I yelped as he shot at the ground an inch away from my leg.

"I will give you a headstart Princess, if you are able to find your way out in these woods I will let you go. But if I catch you..." He let the threat hang.

"You will let me go? You swear?" I asked a bit shocked.

"The clock is

ticking, just five minutes remaining" He looked at his wristwatch then back at me.

"Run!"

I took off immediately.

Chapter 134Brenda“To before all this happened. To when Kaden and I could talk without fear or anger.”She smiled softly. “You can’t go back, Brenda. But you can start again.”Her words hung in the air, reassuring me in the most unimaginable way. I stole a glance at her, and she nodded, like she was confirming what she had said.My lips pressed together, a new surge of hope burning inside me as I stood to my feet. “Thank you Kira for your kind words. I have to take my leave now.”***Later that evening, I found myself walking down the building, near Kaden's block. I didn’t plan to — my feet just sort of led me there. The sun was setting, burning through my skin.I stopped across the building, staring at the small block with the dim light coming from the window. I could see a shadow move inside — his shadow. For a long moment, I just stood there, my hands in my pockets, my heart pounding.I wanted to walk up to the door and knock. I wanted to tell him how sorry I was. But Kira’s words

Chapter 133BrendaIt had been three days since I last saw Kaden. Three long, quiet, and heavy days. The first day, I thought it didn’t matter. I thought maybe it was better this way — that after everything that happened, maybe we both needed space. But as each hour passed, the silence started to bother me more than I expected. Now, sitting alone in my room, I couldn’t stop thinking about him.The rain had stopped outside, leaving the sky dull. I sat by the window, watching little drops of water slide down the glass. My chest felt tight, like something inside was twisting slowly and wouldn’t stop.Kaden hadn’t called. He hadn’t texted. He hadn’t even looked my way since that night. And I couldn’t blame him.I pressed my palms against my eyes, trying to stop the tears that were already forming. “Why did I do that?” I whispered to myself. The sound of my own voice made the room feel even emptier. When I called the police on him, I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought he was da

Chapter 132Kaden The next morning, I woke up early. The light coming through the curtains was soft and warm. I stretched and sat up, feeling something I hadn’t felt in a long time — calm. When I stepped out into the living room, Kira was already there, sitting at the table with a cup of coffee. She looked up and smiled. “Morning.”“Morning,” I said quietly. She studied my face for a moment. “You look better.”“Yeah,” I said. “A little.”She nodded, her smile widening. “That’s good. You deserve some peace.”I sat down across from her. “Thank you, Kira. For everything.”She waved it off. “You don’t have to thank me. I just did what was right.”“Still,” I said, looking down at the cup she’d poured for me. “Not everyone would’ve believed me.”“I did,” she said softly. “And I always will.”Something in my chest eased even more as she said those words. And then, just like it came, Kira’s smile faded a little when she saw how serious I looked. Chapter 131KarenWhen Kira and I got home, the air in the house felt strange… everywhere was quiet and it felt a bit strange. The drive back had been silent. Kira sat beside me, her hands on her lap, her eyes fixed on the road. Every now and then, she’d glance my way, as if to make sure I was really there.I didn’t blame her for the silence. What could she even say? What could I say? When we walked into the house, everything looked the same, but it didn’t feel the same. Kira turned to me gently. “You should rest, Karen. You’ve been through a lot.”I nodded without a word. My body was tired, but my mind wouldn’t stop running. As I made my way down the hallway towards my room, I passed by Brenda’s door. It was closed. For a moment, I stopped there, listening. I thought I heard movement — maybe she was pacing, maybe crying. I didn’t know. But I didn’t knock. Not because I was angry, but because I wasn't ready for any drama… not yet.I just… didn’t know what to say. After what happened,

Chapter 130KiraI couldn't sleep throughout the night.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Karen’s face, filled with shock, fear and disbelief. I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, my hands clutching the blanket. My mind wouldn’t stop running. None of this made any sense.Karen couldn’t have killed Alistair. I knew him. He wasn’t perfect, but he wasn’t a murderer.I kept replaying everything in my head, restlessly trying to piece out the puzzle.By morning, I made up my mind. I was going to find out the truth myself.I got up, threw on a jacket, and left the house quietly. The guards at the gate barely noticed me as I walked past. My hands were shaking a little, but my mind was clear. I needed answers, and I wasn’t going to rest until I found them. The first person I went to was a guard named Mason. He was one of the few people who had been around that night Alistair died. He was older than most of the other guards, quiet, and usually kept to himself.I found him standing by the ba

Chapter 129KiraI was standing by the door, my hand already on the knob, ready to leave, when I heard something that made my heart stop.It was a loud thud, followed by voices shouting from the hallway. At first, I thought I was imagining things. But then I heard it clearly this time—someone yelling, “Freeze! Hands up!”My stomach dropped. That wasn’t just anyone’s voice. It was a policeman.I turned sharply, my heart pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. My steps felt slow at first, but as the noise grew louder, I ran towards the sound. When I reached the corner of the hallway, I froze. Two policemen were dragging someone through the open window. And that person was Karen. For a second, I couldn’t breathe. My mind refused to believe what my eyes were seeing. His hands were cuffed behind his back, his shirt wrinkled, and his face pale under the bright light. One of the officers had a tight grip on his arm, while the other pushed him forward.“Wait—what’s going on?” I shouted,
