ð Fenrir POVThe pile of documents waiting for my review was much smaller than the usual one after my absence.Arria had done well while I was in the palace.Still, there were too many left. Some because she was not confident inherskills.Others because she was unfamiliar with the problem at hand.
ð Arria POV âBut I did hurt you, and elves count deeds more than words.â She kept her solemn expression. My hands tightened around hers. âOkay then, may I choose?â She nodded. âProve me wrong, Milena. That will be more than enough for me.â She did not look pleased. Somehow, it made my chest ache with concern. âItâs between them and me,â she said after a while. âI will do it for myself. Not for you.â Relief moved through me, and a smile rose on my face. âThen I accept your apology as a good deed toward me,â I told her. âAnd weâre all right.â She looked unconvinced. âYou twisted it. You made words count as deeds,â she started. âButâĶ Iâll accept it for now because I canât think of anything I could do for you as an apology that I wouldnât do anyway for my queen.â Not that again. âIâm not anyoneâs queen.â I stood and resumed our walk. âAnd I wonât be.â She glanced up at me and shrugged. âAs you say,â she said. âNow that we are okay, will you start calling me Lena again?â
ð Arria POVIt was a perfect morning.I was still smiling when I finished the last mile.“Are you sure he agreed?” Greg’s voice came from behind me.
ð Fenrir POV“Yes. Without you,” shestatedfirmly. “You have way more important things to do.”She held my gaze.“I understand that my training with Greg turned out badly, so I respect your wish andwon’tsp
ð Fenrir POV âIâm getting dizzy from your mood swings,â Arria said, smiling faintly at me. âNo more,â I promised. Then I leaned in and kissed her. The moment our lips touched, she shivered. Hard. Not the good kind. Her lips were cold. My hand shot from the sheets to her face, then to her shoulder, her arm. Cold. Everywhere. My mind took one second to put the picture together. The shower. Her coming out. Wet hair. Droplets trailing down her back. Bare feet. I was already moving. My hand slipped under her shoulders, pulling her up to sit. One fast move and the towel was gone. A soft sound of surprise left her, and her arms shot around her body. I ignored it. Not her. The instinct to hide. I wrapped the blanket around her tightly instead. âWhat happened to âno moreâ?â she asked. There was no real resistance in her voice. âDonât play smart, Arria.â I lifted her and brought her to the chair in front of the dressing table. Then I turned on the hair dryer and sl
ð Arria POV âIs this how disgust works?â His voice sent shivers down my body. I shook my head. âYou donât use words, Arria,â he said huskily. âYou donât think my proof is solid enough.â Oh, my Goddess, it was more than solid. I wanted to tell him that, but I was unable to speak. His hand slid from my shoulder down my arm, slow enough to steal what little breath I had left, before he took my wrist and lifted it. âKeep it there,â he commanded, placing my hand on the edge of the towel. I did as told. âGood girl,â he praised, and my world tilted. Completely. My eyes closed on their own in an attempt to regain some sanity. He shifted and kissed my neck. Right over my mark. I lost it. A low sound left my lips. His hand shot up and closed over my throat. No pressure. Just there. Feeling the beat of my heart. And the way every breath left me. I liked it. Oh Goddess, I liked it so much. He kissed the mark again, then dragged his tongue over it. His index finger slid u
