Betrayed

Kayla’s POV

The only window in the room was opened and through the closely wielded metal bars moonlight spilled into the darkroom.

I perched on the bed with my back leaned against the metal headboard, my chin resting on my folded knees as I absently fixed my gaze on the opposite wall.

My mind was jumbled, over brimmed with the brief interaction I had with Nyra when she bought food to me an hour ago.

There was something different about her. She acted natural when she handed me the food, and when I enquired about the incident that happened in the kitchen, she told me that she didn’t have the slightest clue to what I was talking about.

I explained how Bruce choked me and that I saw her at the doorway. She instantly denied it by saying that I must have been hallucinating and if she had been there for real, she would have done something to help me.

I believed her plausible explanation...until she excused herself with a forced smile. And before I could ask her if anything was wrong,
