~~Imogene's POV~~

We were back on the road now. The carriage shaking slightly as we rode, heading deeper into the woods. I stared out the window, watching the trees blur by. As we neared a clearing, the anticipation built in my chest. I still couldn't shake off the stories I had heard of Fenrir, the Alpha who was both feared and infamous for taking what he wanted. I couldn’t help but be curious. What exactly did he have planned for me?

A secluded part cleared up and when we finally reached a closed gate, I took a deep breath, bracing myself for whatever was ahead. The horses slowed, and the sound of clanking metal filled the air as the gate creaked open. My heart raced as we rolled into what I can only describe as a bustling town—a thriving life hidden in the woods. It was astonishing!

The first thing that hit me was the lively environment. Women in flowing gowns and men in sharp, tailored coats walked about confidently, their heads held high. Shops lined the streets, each one filled to the brim with goods, fresh produce, and colorful materials. It was beyond anything I’d seen before. A well-organized market town, where everything seemed to run flawlessly on a working system.

“What is this place?” I muttered under my breath, hardly believing my own eyes. Was this really the home of rogue wolves?

As the carriage rolled toward a grand estate, my jaw dropped even lower to the floor. There, standing tall and proud, was Fenrir’s mansion. It was more like a palace than a house. Its stone walls caught in the sunlight, the intricate designs twisting up toward the sky. It was magnificent, regal, and definitely not what I expected from a rogue leader.

Fenrir stepped down from the carriage, and I felt a feeling of surprise as his eyes caught mine. “Welcome to your new home,” he said, a hint of warmth in his voice.

I hesitated. This man was supposed to be ruthless, a monster with blood on his hands. Yet here he was, being… nice to me. Confusion filled my head but I decided to just flow with things for now, reminding myself of who he was. Reluctantly, I took his hand, and he helped me down from the carriage.

As we entered the palace, I held my breath. The inside was amazing. High ceilings stretched above us, decorated with golden bulbs with bright lights and warm lighting throughout the house. Portraits hung on the walls, showing drawings of battles and beautiful forests. Everything screamed luxury. My mind struggled to understand that I was in the home of a Rogue Alpha. A rogue!!

Just then, a girl with striking red hair and freckles on her cheeks burst into the room. “Alpha Fenrir! Welcome back home!” she exclaimed, her voice bright as sunshine. But when she noticed me standing beside him, her smile faded instantly, replaced by a frown that did little to hide her annoyance.

“Is she the one?” she asked, her eyes scanning me like I was a puzzle piece that didn’t quite fit.

Fenrir looked at me with a softness in his gaze. “Yes, Kaira. This is Imogene,” he replied, his tone calm. “Get a warm bath prepared for her.”

Kaira rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. “I’ll get some of the girls to do it.”

“No!” Fenrir’s voice was suddenly harsher, and even I was shocked. The harshness in his tone showed that side of him I hadn’t really seen much of before but heard about. The ruthlessness part.

“I want you to do it. It’s you I trust the most and…” He paused, glancing at me. “...she’s a special one.”

“Special?” I thought to myself, holding in a scoff. There he went again with that ‘special one’ talk. What could possibly be special about me?

Kaira flinched at his tone, but then her demeanor shifted as if someone had flipped a switch. She plastered on a smile that felt forced. “Let me take you to your room and run you a bath,” she said.

Before I could even respond, Kaira whisked me away down the tall hallway. I barely had time to take the place in when we stopped at a large oak door. Kaira pushed it open with a shove.

“Get in!” Her tone was harsh.

I blinked, wondering what I had done to annoy her so quickly. Didn't we just meet?

I stepped inside, and the room was just as stunning as the rest of the house. Wide space, tall windows, an even larger bed.

Kaira walked off towards a separate door, most likely the bathroom and I just stood awkwardly in the room.

After a moment, Kaira returned and nodded sharply. “I’ve set a bath for you,” she said, not bothering to wait for my response. “When you come out, there’ll be clean clothes on the bed.”

And then she left, closing the door behind her. I stood there, the silence wrapping around me like a heavy blanket. Alone now, my thoughts went back to the same questions. Why did Fenrir pick me? What was this “special” thing he kept mentioning? The questions floated in my head, but my body was tired from the long journey.

I pushed my thoughts aside and decided I needed the bath before trying to figure out anything. Slowly, I took off my clothes, and stepped into the bathroom, which had the pleasant aroma of strawberries and citrus all around the air. Light steam curled in the air, caressing my skin.

But as soon as my toes touched the water, I yelped. It was burning hot! I had underestimated the steam coming from it. It felt like the water wanted to cook me alive.

“Ah!” I shouted instinctively, pulling back.

Did Kiara not check this water temperature before leaving? Or did she do it on purpose?

Just then the bathroom door burst open, and there was Fenrir, eyes wide with concern. “What is the problem?” he asked, rushing in.

My heart raced. Not from fear, but from this whole situation. Here I was, first time here, with the ruthless Alpha of the rogues barging in on me completely naked.

~~Fenrir's POV~~I stood there longer than necessary, watching them disappear into the trees, moving with the efficiency of wolves who had hunted together for years. I stayed at the gate after the last one of them had gone, fully aware that my presence there did really serve any function. This was what they were best at. Tracking. Finding what others could not. If anyone could find Imogene, it would be them. And yet there was still this uneasy feeling in my chest that did not go away.I waited until even the last trace of them could be seen in the forest as they left before turning back. I returned to my office but I still wasn't at peace there. Reports piled on my desk, parchment curling at the edges, ink blurring as the hours passed. Wolves came seeking counsel and I answered them all, but only half-present. My responses were clipped, stripped of the patience I normally forced myself to show.Every matter presented to me felt secondary. All of it registered as obligation rather than

~~Fenrir's POV~~I let go of Kiara and stepped back, unable to bear touching her any more because she disgusted and irritated me. I turned to face the assembled wolves, all of them had been watching our argument with fear in their eyes. “Kiara has betrayed my trust and driven away a member of this pack through lies and manipulation. For this crime… I sentence her to death.”The words fell like stones into the silence of the hall.“No.” Kiara’s face went white. “Fenrir, you can’t… I’ve been with you from the beginning. This pack is my home. You can’t do this for some girl you barely know!”“You undermined Imogene at every turn. You poisoned her mind with lies until she had no choice but to run. And you did it all because your pride could not accept that I chose her instead of you.” The snarl that came out of me made everyone in the hall flinch.“She didn’t deserve you!”“That was not your decision to make!” I closed our distance, and she backed away until she hit the wall. “You took th

~~Fenrir’s POV~~I sensed something was wrong the moment I woke. The space beside me in bed was cold, it had been cold for hours. Imogene’s scent lingered, but it was faint, fading. She had spent the night in her own room again, which wasn’t unusual. But something felt off. I quickly got dressed and made my way to her room. She was probably just sleeping in, or reading, or doing any number of normal things that did not require my presence or concern. The door was unlocked. I knocked anyway, waiting for her to give me permission to enter. Silence.Worry tightened in my chest. “Imogene?” I pushed the door open. The room was empty. The bed was made, but with a hastiness that suggested someone leaving in a hurry rather than someone who carefully made the bed this morning. The wardrobe door stood slightly open and I could see empty spaces where her clothes should have been.No.I crossed over to the other side at the foot of her bed and threw it open. Most of her personal items were gone.

~~Imogene's POV~~I woke up and it felt like I was floating, which made no sense at all. My eyelids felt like they were carrying heavy stones, and my body pained me in ways I didn’t remember it paining be this much before. There were voices somewhere above me; low, concerned murmurs that seemed to drift in and out of focus.“...found her collapsed near the eastern border…”“...pregnant, I can smell it…”The word sent a jolt through my sluggish consciousness.I forced my eyes open, panic giving me strength I didn’t know I had left. The world came into focus slowly; a wooden ceiling above me, the walls were painted in warm earth tones, the scent of rosemary and lemongrass filled the air. This was not my cave. This was not the forest.I tried to sit up, but my body was protesting. I immediately felt dizzy all over, and I would have fallen if those strong hands hadn’t caught my shoulders, easing me back towards the pillows.“Easy,” a deep voice said, and I turned to find myself looking up

~~Imogene's POV~~I stared at the coin pouch, not reaching out to take it. “Is any of what you told me true? About the curse? About Fenrir using me?”“Every word.”I hesitated, then finally took the pouch, because I needed every advantage I could get. “If I find out you lied—”“You’ll what? Come back and challenge me? Once again, you are wolfless, Imogene. You have no power. That’s why you need to run while you still can because either way staying here is a danger to you, don't you see.”She was right. I hated that she was right.I turned and walked toward the gate, my legs feeling like they were made of lead. Every step away from this place, away from Fenrir, felt like tearing myself in half. But I kept walking. For the baby. For myself. For whatever future I could still salvage from the wreckage of my life.I didn’t look back. Could not look back, or I might lose my nerve entirely. I walked into the darkness beyond the gate, into the forest that surrounded the pack lands, and I did

  • The Ruthless Alpha Who Bought Me Is My Mate    Chapter 45

~~Imogene's POV~~Kiara left, and I sat there in the silence she had left behind, my world crumbling around me. Was it true? Had everything been a lie?I thought about the way Fenrir looked at me, the things he had said. The night he told me he loved me. Had it all been an act? A carefully constructed manipulation designed to keep me compliant while he used my body to break his curse?I needed to think. Needed to figure out what was true and what wasn’t that Kiara had planted in my mind. But sitting here, in room Fenrir had given me, in a pack where it seemed I had no true allies, felt suddenly suffocating.I stood on shaky legs and moved to the small trunk at the foot of my bed. My hands trembled as I began pulling out necessities. I didn’t know where I would go or how I would survive. But I knew I could not stay here until I could figure out the truth. Not when staying might mean risking this baby the same way I had unknowingly risked the last one.I would leave. Tonight. And once I
