Seren's POV

Three days after Davan's letter, the answer came from a place none of us expected.

I was in the library when Rysen found me, a book open on my lap that I hadn't read a single page of, my mind circling the same fear it had circled for three days straight. He didn't say anything at first. He just sat down across from me, elbows on his knees, and studied my face like he was trying to decide how much of what he'd learned I could survive hearing.

"We found something," he said finally.

"What kind of something."

"The kind that ends this." He leaned forward, and for the first time in days there was something other than fury in his eyes. Something closer to hope, careful and unpracticed, like he wasn't sure he trusted it yet either. "Caelum pulled the original sale documents. All of them. Every version, every draft, every signature."

"And?"

"Davan didn't just undervalue you, Seren." Rysen's jaw tightened. "He knew about the anomaly clause before the transfer. There's an earlier draft, one he tried to bury, where his own lawyer flagged the fertility marker risk and told him to price you accordingly. He ignored it. He sold you cheap on purpose, knowing exactly what you might be worth, because he wanted the sale done fast before anyone else could outbid him for a gamble that big."

I sat with that for a long moment, feeling something twist low in my stomach. "So he's not filing because we cheated him."

"He's filing because he cheated himself, and he's hoping nobody looks close enough to notice." Rysen's mouth curved into something sharp, almost cruel. "The false valuation clause only protects a seller who didn't know what they were selling. Davan knew. We have the paper trail to prove it."

Relief hit me so hard my hands started shaking again, a different kind of shaking than the fear had been. "Does Ashgrove know yet?"

"Caelum's requesting an emergency hearing. Today, if she'll grant it." Rysen reached over, closed his hand around mine to still it. "This ends it, Seren. Not just the letter. All of it. Once the council sees what he did, he loses any claim to you forever. No more clauses. No more lawyers. No more letters showing up with your name on them like you still belong to him."

I wanted to believe it that easily. Some small, exhausted part of me wanted to let the relief carry me all the way through, but twelve days in this house had taught me that nothing involving Davan ever ended as clean as it should.

The hearing was set for that evening, held in the same sealed hallway where I'd first shifted, because Ashgrove insisted on seeing the site herself before she'd rule on anything. She arrived with the same two enforcers, the same unreadable composure, and a third figure I didn't recognize trailing behind her, older, tired looking, carrying a leather case that made my stomach drop the second I saw it.

"Your Alpha's lawyer," Ashgrove said, noting my reaction. "He'll be presenting evidence on your behalf. I assume you have no objection."

I didn't answer. I was too busy staring past her shoulder at the door, because I already knew, some part of me already knew before the door even opened, exactly who else would be walking through it.

Davan stepped into the hallway like he owned it. Same easy smile he used to wear when he was lying to my face about rent money he never intended to pay back. Same way of moving through a room like every eye in it should already be on him. He hadn't changed at all, and something about that made me angrier than anything he'd written in that letter.

"Seren." He said my name like we were old friends catching up. "You look well. Better than well, actually. I hear congratulations are in order."

"Don't," I said, and my voice came out steadier than I felt. "Don't talk to me like you know me."

"I sold you. I think that qualifies me to know you a little." His smile didn't waver, but Caelum moved half a step closer to me anyway, close enough that I felt the low warning growl building somewhere in his chest before it ever reached his throat.

"You'll address the council," Ashgrove said sharply, "not the woman you're attempting to reclaim as property. Sit down, Davan, or I'll have you removed before this hearing even begins."

He sat. The lawyer opened his leather case, and I watched, my heart pounding, as Caelum's own lawyer laid out document after document on the small table set up in the middle of that hallway. The early draft. The buried warning about the fertility marker. Davan's own signature dismissing the risk in writing, dated weeks before the sale went through.

I watched Davan's face change as each page landed. Watched the easy smile crack, just slightly, at the corners.

"This is fabricated," he said, too fast, too loud. "You've had time to forge whatever you needed."

"The original is filed with the registry, dated and sealed the day it was written," Caelum's lawyer said calmly. "Your own lawyer's signature is on the risk assessment. You can contest the authenticity if you'd like, Councilwoman, but I'd recommend having your office pull the registry copy before you take his word over a decade old paper trail."

Ashgrove studied the documents in silence for a long moment, and the hallway felt like it was holding its breath around her. Then she looked up, and whatever careful neutrality she'd worn since the moment she walked into this house was gone.

"You knew," she said to Davan, quiet and cold. "You knew exactly what you were selling, and you sold her cheap anyway, hoping to slip a windfall past me the moment she proved herself valuable." She closed the leather case herself, a small, final motion. "The false valuation clause protects a seller who was deceived. You deceived no one but the woman you sold. Your claim is void. Effective immediately, and permanently."

The sound that came out of Davan wasn't quite words. Rage, mostly, raw and ugly, the mask finally slipping all the way off to show me exactly what he'd always been underneath the charm. "You're going to let them keep her over a technicality."

"I'm going to let the law do exactly what it's meant to do." Ashgrove stood, smoothing her grey coat, already turning away from him like he'd stopped being worth her attention the second the ruling left her mouth. "Get him out of my sight before I decide his conduct here warrants further charges."

The enforcers moved without hesitation. Davan fought them for exactly three steps before he seemed to remember what happened to people who fought Ashgrove's enforcers, and after that he just went, dragged out of the hallway still shouting something I couldn't make out and didn't want to.

The doors shut behind him, and the silence that followed felt different from every silence that had come before it in this house. Lighter. Like something that had been sitting on my chest since the night I found that folder had finally, actually, lifted.

I didn't realize I was crying until Caelum's thumb brushed the tears off my cheek, gentle in a way that didn't match the fury still banked in his eyes from watching Davan stand three feet away from me.

"It's over," he said.

"It's over," Rysen echoed, pulling me into his chest from the other side, his heartbeat fast under my ear.

I stood between them in that hallway, the same hallway where I'd first become something no one believed I could be, and let myself finally, fully believe it was true. Davan couldn't reach me anymore. Not with contracts, not with lawyers, not with letters designed to remind me of everything I used to be worth.

I wasn't his anymore. I never really had been.

I was theirs, and for the first time since the night everything changed, that word didn't scare me at all.

Seren's POVThe formal registration was set for the last week of the thirty days, even though Davan's claim had already been thrown out. Ashgrove insisted on it anyway. Said a verbal ruling in a sealed hallway wasn't the same as a bond confirmed on record, and until my name sat in the registry beside Caelum's and Rysen's, nothing about my life here was actually safe on paper.I hated how much that word, safe, had started to feel like a moving target. The week leading up to it passed strange and slow. Caelum threw himself into preparing for the hearing the way he threw himself into everything, controlled and exhausting and quiet about it, like if he just worked hard enough none of us would have time to be scared. Rysen handled it differently. He kept finding reasons to touch me, a hand on my back passing through a doorway, fingers laced through mine at dinner, like he needed the constant proof that I was still there, still real, still his to reach for.I noticed things about my own bod

Seren's POV The house didn't go back to normal after Ashgrove left. It just went quiet in a different way. The kind of quiet that comes after someone shows you exactly how easily they could burn your whole life down, then walks out smiling about it. I spent the first two days of the thirty pretending I wasn't counting them. Caelum buried himself in paperwork I wasn't allowed to see. His jaw stayed tight every time he passed me, like he was holding something back with his teeth. Rysen tried harder to act normal. He dragged me into the training yard, tried to teach me to throw a knife properly, laughed too loud at things that weren't that funny. I let him. Watching him try to carry the fear off my shoulders was easier than carrying it myself. It was working. For two whole days, it was actually working. Then Della knocked on my door with a letter in her hand, and her face told me it was bad before she said a single word. "It came by courier," she said, not quite meeting my eye

Seren's POVSunlight. Warmth. Someone's arm heavy across my waist and someone else's fingers loose around mine, like even asleep he hadn't trusted his hand to let go.For one whole minute, I let myself have it. The quiet. The thread under my skin humming low and content instead of screaming. I lay there memorizing it, because some part of me, the part that had spent nineteen years being told I was broken already knew a morning like this one didn't come free.I was right. The pounding on the door ripped through the room and Caelum was up before I'd even processed what the sound was. Rysen came up half a second later, knife already in his hand, some animal reflex faster than his own waking brain."Alpha." A guard, voice cracking. "Council delegation. Already past the gate."Caelum went so still it scared me more than his shouting would have. "That's not possible. No one requested a visit.""They didn't request one, sir." A breath. "The wards flagged an unregistered shift signature two n

Seren’s POVThey came to my room together that night, and I already knew, the moment I heard both sets of footsteps stop outside my door, that whatever this was between us had stopped being an arrangement."You don't have to let us in," Caelum said through the wood, and I could hear how much the words cost him, how carefully he'd chosen to leave the choice with me even now.I opened the door myself.Rysen's hand found my jaw first, tilting my face up, and he searched my eyes for something before he kissed me slow and deliberate, like he had all the time in the world despite the way his hands shook slightly against my skin. There was none of his usual teasing in it, none of the easy charm he wore like armor. Just his mouth on mine, patient and certain. Caelum's palm settled against the small of my back a heartbeat later, and I felt the low rumble of his chest against my shoulder blades, patient in a way that undid me faster than urgency ever could have."Tell us to stop and we stop," C

  • Bought To Breed: A Mate For The Twins Alphas   Chapter Six- The Night Her Wolf Broke Free

Seren’s POVTwelve days into my stay, something inside me finally gave.It happened in the hallway outside the laundry room, of all places. A young maid named Della had brought fresh linens to my door, and I’d followed her a few steps to ask where the library was, a small, stupid attempt to find something to do with the hours that stretched endlessly in that house. She turned to answer me, and the moment her eyes met mine, the pulse under my ribs that had gone quiet since the night I left Davan’s flat woke up screaming. I was confused about what It was, what was happening to me there. It didn’t feel like a heartbeat this time. It felt like something clawing its way up my spine, and I doubled over, gripping the wall, a sound tearing out of my throat that didn’t belong to any human voice I owned.“Seren?” Della’s voice climbed into panic. “Seren, your eyes—”I didn’t hear the rest. Heat ripped through my bones so fast I thought I was dying, my vision splitting into something too sharp,
