Chapter 6 - Field's death

Chapter 6

Third Person

POV

Emiel Fields arrives at the cottage he has been staying at for the past week, waiting for the past week, he just dropped his lover at her friend’s house for the evening. They’ll be leaving in the morning. She wanted to say bye to her friends.

Who knew Slade Graves would play dirty and have him arrested. He switches on the light in the living room, when he looks up, he sees Slade sitting on the sofa, in his silver mask. His blue eyes staring into his soul.

Emiel’s back stiffens, chills down his spine. This was what he feared most. He knew he was going to die tonight. he clenches his fists.

He slowly walks over to the opposite side sofa and sits.

“You really thought you could hide from me?” Slade’s deep voice sends shivers down his spine.

Slade looks behind Emiel and nods his head. Emiel hears footsteps approaching.

Gunner walks out from the shadows with a dark smirk on his face he takes a seat beside Slade.

“Slade…” Emiel stammers.

He knew he was going to die, there was no going back, he was the one who gave the order. He thought Slade was in the house. He got a tip off that he would be there.

Slade lets out a low chuckle. “Come on, beg for your life. I want to hear what excuses you’ll come up with. You know people fear me for a reason. The last person to burn a house of mine, got a burnt alive. What do you think I’ll do to you?” Slade asks.

Emiel whole body trembles with fear. He’d prefer a gunshot to the head than this.

Gunner gets up and walks over to Emiel. He takes a seat next to Emiel. He wraps his arm around Emiel’s shoulder.

“I would love to see what you would look like as a BBQ…” Gunner jokes.

When Emiel doesn’t say anything.

“You’re no fun Emmy…” Gunner pouts unhappily.

As usual Rowan ignores Gunner’s playfulness. His eyes focused on Emiel Fields.

“Want to know what my father taught me growing up?” Rowan (Slade) asks.

When no one answers him, he continues. “My father told me, never push your enemies into a corner without a way for them to escape. You have to leave them with an open window, or door. Give him a sense of relief. Let them think they won, then you come in and hit them. What I took from this was. A trapped animal attacks. But an animal with a false sense of security wouldn’t…” Slade finishes by taking off his mask.

Emiel began to sweat profusely; his eyes widen on Rowan… “Rowan… Rowan Priest...” Emiel stammers. He never thought Rowan Priest would be Slade. He was so dead.

“Please, spare my girlfriend she’s pregnant please…” he knew better than to beg for his own life. He was as good as dead. He saw Slade’s face. No one has ever seen Slade’s face and lived to tell anyone.

Rowan laughed. “That’s so funny. You’re not going to beg for the other three kids’ safety Michel Sheilds?” Rowan asked with an evil glint in his eyes it made both Gunner and Emiel tremble in fear.

It didn’t take much for Rowan to get angry, but even Gunner had never seen Rowan this pissed off before. He’d always worked on Rowan’s nerves. But he’d never seen that glint in Rowan’s eyes before. It scared him shitless, and he wasn’t the one getting killed tonight.

Slade was known for his ruthlessness, though he’d heard about all the things Slade’s done, Emiel didn’t think he’d be this heartless. He’d hidden his children out of the public eye, he’d hidden his past well. He didn’t think Slade would find them. He’d changed his name and hidden his wives.

Gunner got up and went to sit next to Rowan.

Gunner took out his gun and aimed it at Emiel. “Don’t worry we don’t hurt women and children. We’re not you.” Gunner says before shooting Emiel in his knee.

Emiel screams out in pain. “Rowan please, please spare my children’s lives. They know nothing about this life. I made sure they didn’t.” he begs clutching his knee.

“Didn’t I just say we don’t hurt women and children?” Gunner asks in anger. He shoots Emiel’s other kneecap.

Rowan’s phone rings. He pulls it out of his trousers pocket. He sees Damien’s name across the screen.

He answers with a sigh.

“Damien…” he answers.

“Hey, I’m in Chicago where are you?” Damien asks.

“What are you doing here Damien? Go back home.” He says before hanging up.

“What are you waiting for? Why is he still alive?” Rowan asks gunner before getting up…

He pockets his phone and walks out of the cottage.

He takes out a cigarette and lights it. He stands outside with his thoughts.

Rowan goes back home tomorrow morning and he’d have to face his house guest.

He still had no idea if he was making the right decision. He only bought her because she looked like his dead wife. Marrying the woman was the only way to get his family off his back and still live his life without ever falling in love again.

He was many things, but he was dumb, the pain he felt when Angelica died was something he’d never feel again in his life.

He hears a shot ring out and a few minutes later Gunner walks out.

“It’s done.” He says softly.

Rowan nods. “Wait for the cleanup team to arrive and make sure they leave no evidence. I’m going back to the house.” Rowan says throwing his cigarette to the ground then stepping on it.

“I’ll get it done. I won’t go back to the house tonight, so I say goodbye. See you in a few weeks…” Gunner says.

Rowan nods. He shakes Gunner’s hand before walking off. He walked around the cottage; his bike was behind the house. He didn’t want Fields spotting his bike.

He gets onto his bike. He places the helmet over his head and starts his bike. He hated the damn hoods. It was so damn cold.

When he got back to the house, he looked through the information Missy gave him on Gracie. He frowns when he sees her medical condition.

Placing the file down. He closes his eyes and leans back on the sofa. He knew how to get her to agree now, though her health condition scared him. The girl was severely malnourished, how she could even stand on her own two feet was a damn miracle.

Though he had nothing to worry about, Mia is taking care of the girl. He didn’t trust many people, but he trusted Mia with his life.

Damien quietly walks into the room, seeing his brother laying on the sofa, Rowan looked exhausted. Damien did not say anything for a few minutes… He walks over and sits beside his brother.

“So how about those drinks?” he asks.

Rowan doesn’t open his eyes. He knew his brother would find him eventually, but he was hoping he would be in New York by then.

Rowan sighs. “We can have it here. I’m too tired to go anywhere.” He tells his little brother.

“Sure…” Damien gets up from the sofa and walks over to the cabinet where his brother kept his drinks. He poured them two glasses of whisper and threw ice. He walks over to Rowan and hands him his glass.

He takes a seat. “You know this is kind of boring. Where is everyone else?” Damien asks.

“Gunner’s handling some business, Dre is in New York and Missy is out somewhere…” Rowan sits up and takes and takes a sip of his whiskey.

“When do you leave?” Damien asks.

“Tomorrow morning… My flight is at four…” Rowan says.

Damien nods. “Dad sent me here on business. I’ll be taking over LA soon he wants me to meet with Romano…” Damien explains.

Rowan looks at his brother. He was five minutes older than Damien, but always felt years older than Damien, since Damien always acted like a five-year-old.

“When will the old man actually retire?” Damien asks.

Rowan snorts. “He doesn’t know how…” Rowan looks at his brother. “Oh, right Grammy wants you to visit…”

Damien cringes. “No… She always tries to set me up with her friends’ granddaughters.” He was tired of the old lady trying to set him up with girls. He wasn’t interested in dating anyone.

Rowan smiles. “She knows about Hannah and asked if I was going to marry her and bring her to Irland with me. I don’t think I could actually have a conversation with Hannah yet alone damn plane ride to Irland.”

Damien bursts out laughing. He’d heard about Hannah. The woman thought she was Mrs. Priest already, when Rowan didn’t even want to have a conversation with her. Rowan didn’t even know it, but he was heartless.
