_Amelie’s POV_

The carpet outside Luca’s office was soft beneath my knees.

I sat with my arms wrapped tightly around myself, eyes burning and my throat raw from holding in the sobs that refused to stop.

Nico’s words kept playing in a loop — every vow, every threat, every shattered piece of what we used to be, sharp and bloody in my mind.

You’re still mine.

I’ll never let you go.

I should’ve run. Gone anywhere else that wasn't close to Luca.

But I didn’t have the strength. My legs had given out, and this hallway—this stupid, empty hallway—was the only place I felt invisible for a moment.

And I had been here for hours and I didn't really think he was in there at this point.

Until the door opened.

I heard the click first. Then the soft creak.

My breath was locked in my chest. I froze, wiping my face quickly with my sleeves, praying the tears weren’t as obvious as they felt. Please, God, don’t let it be him. Don’t let him have heard—

“Amelie?”

Luca’s voice was gentle. Too gentle.

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Betrayal

_Amelie’s POV_I woke up the next morning feeling better than I did in days. The apartment was too quiet. Too normal. Sunlight drifted lazily across the floor, touching the couch where Elias sat reading a book like nothing in our world had cracked open. I took a sick leave from the hospital because I didn’t think I was well enough to work for a few days. Sicknesses don’t always have to be physical too.I poured coffee for both of us, my fingers trembling slightly.Elias glanced up when I set the cup down. “You okay?”I nodded, forcing a smile. “Just tired.”He studied me for a moment, that quiet, searching way he always did. Then he nodded too. “I understand.”Silence stretched between us — not cold, not angry, just heavy.I wanted to reach across the table and promise him it was over. That the past had finally lost its grip on me. So I said it.“I’m done with Nico,” I said quietly.Elias’s hand stilled halfway to his mouth. “You’re sure?”“Yes,” I said, firmer this time. “That wor

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Letting her go

Nico’s POVThe sun hadn’t risen when I got back. I needed some kind of distraction after what had happened yesterday. So I drove around the city for a while before making my way back to our house. Amelie. She looked the same. Maybe smaller. Softer around the edges, but her eyes… her eyes still burned with the same fire that had made me fall and hate her all at once. I thought I’d buried that part of me. Turns out, feelings don’t stay buried — they just wait for you to dig them up again.I was sitting at the edge of my desk, still in the same clothes, cigarette burning slowly between my fingers. The room smelled like smoke and stale whiskey. Papers scattered across the floor. None of them mattered.Matteo was standing by the window, staring out at the street below. He’d been quiet since we got back — too quiet. That was how I knew he was thinking about her too.“Say it,” I muttered. He didn’t turn. “Say what?”I took a slow drag, exhaling through my nose. “Whatever lecture you’ve bee

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Just breathing

_Amelie’s POV_I didn’t sleep. Not that I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t. The night stretched forever, heavy and silent, broken only by the sound of cars passing outside and my own uneven breathing.Every time I closed my eyes, I heard the gunfire again. I saw Nico’s face. I saw Elias standing between us, confused and angry and trying to understand something I couldn’t explain. When dawn came, it didn’t feel like a new day. It felt like another reminder that I couldn’t keep pretending. The light through the blinds painted long stripes across the floor. The coffee pot hissed softly. I moved around the kitchen without thinking—boiling water, setting two mugs, trying to fill the silence with anything that sounded normal.Elias hadn’t slept in our bed. I’d heard him come in late, after the police cleared the restaurant. He didn’t say a word. Just took off his jacket, sat on the couch, and stared at nothing. I watched him from the doorway for a long time, wanting to speak, but the words

_Amelie’s POV_How did it all end up like this? Today wasn’t supposed to end like this. It was meant to have gone well. But ever since they came back into my life, bothing has ever been the same. “Because this time, if I don’t, I will die.”I stood frozen on the pavement, my pulse shaking through me like a trapped bird. The restaurant behind us was chaos — broken glass, people shouting, flashing red and blue lights bouncing off the windows. And in front of me stood Nico.He looked so calm it made me sick. Black shirt, dark jacket, the faintest bruise shadowing his jaw. His men lingered a few feet away, silent and unreadable. It was all too much, too familiar — the control, the precision, the danger wrapped in stillness.I was shaking when I whispered, “Why are you really here?”He didn’t answer. His eyes flicked past me, toward the restaurant doors. And then I heard it — my name.“Chiara!”I turned just as Elias pushed through the crowd, his shirt streaked with dust and smoke, his

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Please

_Amelie’s POV_Elias said I needed to breathe. He said we needed to do something normal — dinner, laughter, maybe wine, maybe silence that didn’t hurt.I agreed, not because I wanted to go, but because pretending helped. Pretending was survival. At this point it seemed that all I was doing was just pretend. So I put on a dress.Simple. Black. Something that didn’t remind me of a wedding that never happened. He drove quietly, one hand on the wheel, the other finding mine when the lights turned red. His thumb brushed my palm the same way it always did when he sensed I was somewhere else.“I know it’s been a lot,” he said softly. “But tonight, let’s just… breathe, okay?”I nodded, smiling as the knot in my chest loosened a bit.Breathing had never been easy since they came back. Since Luca walked into my hospital and brought with him things I’d buried. The restaurant was warm, golden, full of laughter and noise. I should have felt safe there — surrounded by strangers, far from danger, t

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Not too late

_Amelie’s POV_The morning after felt like stepping into a dream I hadn’t chosen.Elias had insisted I take the day off, but work was the only place where my mind could breathe. At least there, people only expected results — not answers.I left the house before he could argue, telling him I needed distraction. He kissed my forehead, reluctant but trusting, and let me go.The city moved in its usual rhythm — cars honking, heels tapping against pavement, vendors shouting over the morning buzz. The normalcy of it all felt wrong. After everything that had happened, I wanted the world to look different. But it didn’t. It never did.At the hospital, I smiled at the receptionist, forced and brief, then went straight to change my clothes . I buried myself in clinicals, rushing between patients as I tried not to think about the wedding that never was, the names I’d tried to forget, the faces I couldn’t escape. For a while, it worked. Talking to the patients took everything off my mind.Until i
